  1. I've been gone most of the day, and was actually surprised to see so much complaining after the game. Anyone stirring the pot after a game where Giolito dominated and Eloy provided the only runs really needs to just stop watching for the next year and a half. This is up there with the Astros shutout from Giolito as the best rebuild game of the season.

  2. According to a story at MLB.com and at the Sox web site, he's been given some time off to "get a mental respite." Which is a polite way of saying he sucks and needs to be benched. Better late than never I suppose by the Sox.

  3. Of course it does. The past couple years all I've been doing is fighting with the rebuild/tank lovers who actively rooted for losses so we could get a better draft pick. It hasn't been as bad this year. There's some new board blood that really likes to win. I Love you new people. p.s. I applaud you Gio and Eloy. Wow. Gio is fricking amazing; ditto Eloy.

  4. The single most important stat for a closer is save %. And in that category Colome is a perfect 13/13 this season. I don’t give a shit if a guy strikes out 2 per inning on average and has great advanced stats if he’s blowing 2 out of every 10 save opportunities as the team’s closer. Nothing more demoralizing to a team than blowing 9th inning leads.

  6. Giolito now has the second highest fWAR of all pitchers in baseball ?

  7. FO wasted much of Sale's career (and Quintana's). The offense has been in a ten-year slump.

  8. When it's all set and done, both Machado and Harper will be considered major screw ups also. I actually praise the Sox saved themselves from handcuffing themselves to a financial disaster like that. End result, the 2 positions Machado could play have been filled internally by two guys playing at near Allstar Levels at this point.

  9. Kudos again to McCann for his preparation and calling another great game

  10. Giolito is 9-1. He had 10 wins all of last year.

  11. Nice win thanks to Giolito, but this offense needs to pick up. They’ll be facing pitchers much better than Keller!

  17. Lost in the excitement of Giolito tossing a gem...the 4 outs needed to end the game came quite painlessly. Bummer and Colome made short work with four up and four down. Nice when the bullpen doesn't make you squirm.

  18. No I did not. I only read the stories at the Sox web site and at MLB.com where they talked about him going to his high school pitching coach who changed his mechanics. This is something Cooper, supposedly the great pitching coach, should have been able to detect and change. It's ludicrous that a professional pitcher had to go back to a high school coach to work on these things.

  19. I understand you can get a W without pitching very well. You can also get a L while being really good. I'll never believe you can be 9-1 with anything short of outstanding pitching. I guess I'm old fashioned. Oh well.

  20. When I was an 18-year-old college freshman, I'd guesstimate that AT LEAST 1/3 (likely more) of my classmates were well in their 20s or 30s. A lot of people serve in the military before going to college... I wish I would've Very few college baseball players get full scholarships. When Gio Gonzalez was drafted in 2004, I believe he had a clause in his contract where the Chicago White Sox would pay for his entire college education if he failed to make the Major Leagues. IMO, that is a HELL of a lot better than getting a PARTIAL scholarship to play baseball in college.

  21. I always liked Avi accept his time on the DL. With Avi you probably get more offense and with Hayward a lot more defense. Hayward is 29 year old which doesn't make him old. Excellent defense and has rediscovered some semblance of what he once was offensively. I was suggesting a Cubs deal probably could fit both teams if Hayward could be had at discount. Dye was available to us for similar circumstances when slow recovering from an injury while with Oakland. Dye and Hayward always reminded me a bit of each other. A pitcher like Colome would be attractive to our friends on the Northside.

  23. He's an all star unless he gets hurt. This is spectacular. Whether he starts or not will depend a lot on who is on regular rest when the game hits, but he's our all star.

  24. JR is an exceptional businessman. You don't luck your way into getting a professional franchise, he earned the opportunity. As an owner, JR appears to be a meddler, is far to loyal, hold grudges and is concerned more about "fiscal responsibility" (and at one time breaking the union) then achieving sustained success on the field. It's unfortunate for the franchise and especially for the fans...he could have done so much more (and made even more money to boot by consistently winning)

  25. With all due respect...Jerry Reinsdorf is worth over 1.5 Billion. Do you really think he made that amount of money by being a weak leader. I don't like all the results but to call guys like Reinsdorf lacking the guts to make decisions just isn't reasonable.

  26. What I was saying is that the whole sub 2 era thing is ridiculous when measuring how good a reliever is and that most people have made up their mind on Colome being a great closer or average. I tend to think he is much better than the 72nd reliever in baseball. 13 out of 13 is so far so good. And don't you ever talk shit about Fatt Albers again

  27. Doesn't seem to be bothering them financially though and this year both of those guys are actually producing some positive results. They seem to be willing to take risks, the Sox don't seem willing to do that. So be it. Regarding the game today, the 2019 White Sox MVP is Lucas Giolito's high school pitching coach! Period...end of discussion. He needs to be hired by the Sox and can Cooper. And they finally benched Alonso. Maybe Ricky CAN learn something!

  28. I definitely think the Sox can be very good next year, but it kind of depends on how much money/talent the FO expends to bring in a RF and some rotation and bullpen help over the offseason. I'm patient, whatever, but whiffing on Machado does not instill me with great confidence.

  30. That's a very fair assessment there, but the losing prior to rebuild is what hasn't afforded the team and fans patience. I think that's why many folks are pessimistic and dismissive.

  31. Well, we really won't know the results of the draft until all the prospects get here so that is an unknown at this point. I assume we will see the first product of this rebuild draft in Collins emerge in September. Then the others slowly arrive, and then you have the MLB adjustment period. I won't count Anderson since he isnt a Hostetler-era pick. And with free agency, well, we can all agree last offseason was a shit show but you can't really argue that one yet either. Still a couple more to go, I would say after the next 2 offseasons we can judge whether it was a failure or not. This is the part I probably have the least faith in though with the track record. I think the draft piece is gonna take the longest though, with the development and adjustment periods that are attached with it.

  32. Wait, people still use ERA to judge a reliever's ability? In 2019? Are we also still using RBI to judge hitters? Or errors to judge fielders?

  34. I'm confident that despite the TJ, Dunning is going to be a solid middle of the rotation piece too. He's got the fire and the makeup. Maybe a late 2020 guy.

  38. And here it is . Plain for all to see this wonderful grouping you use to demonstrate Hahn's worthiness as GM . Sale a draft pick got him Mocada and Kopech. You don't think a few of us on this board could've picked three or 4 minor league players who were worthy of one of the best pitchers in baseball ? Moncada has had 1/2 season of success Kopech nothing except a big injury. Madrigal has accomplished nothing yet. We all want him to but he doesn't belong on a list of accomplishments. Again many here could've picked the 4th pick in the draft last year. Eloy and Cease .Another 2 that have accomplished nothing so far. Bummer a relief pitcher with no sustain success. Stellar example. Giolito. His failures outweighs his success so far. Less than 1/2 a season of a good baseball career. Marshall another relief pitcher who has failed most of his career and with less than half a season of a good baseball career. Tilson , really ? You want to use a career minor league guy as an example of Hahn success stories ? The only thing Tilson has been good at is being injured. Harsh I know but unfortunately true. That leaves Abreu and Anderson on your 14 player list of Hahn accomplishments. I will give you these 2 as having some sustained success but even last year there were some on this board suggesting Anderson was nothing special. Let me also remind you and you can also use this to your advantage , that Hahn has many talent evaluators under him . Doing the legwork, making recommendations. He also has the owner over him controlling the purse strings. SO perhaps the best I can say about Hahn is that the right people below him may not be the best and the guy above him might not be the guy the Sox need to spend lavishly. Perhaps it is Reinsdorfs loyalty that hampers Hahn on his acquisitions and from hiring the people Hahn himself may desire but might not be able to get due to Reinsdorfs loyalty to his employees or his loyalty to his investors. Then there are the 2 guys you just said we should cut ties with , Alonso and Jay. Since you like to use players acquired to use as a gauge to message success then didn't Hahn acquire those 2 in a a experiment that failed miserably ? DId Hahn not approve of signing Eloy's brother in an attempt to appease Eloy and buy his loyalty ? Maybe Enoy is a player? Doubtful. There are also many on this board capable of picking the right free agents to sign and have demonstrated in in their posting history even if that is difficult to prove. Lip is a Sox historian and author. He has forgotten more about the Sox than most of us know. He's has read and wrote about it for many years. He knows failure all too well when he sees it. Oh I forgot McCann. Mosty below average production for McCann too in his Detroit career.. Of course as a GM you need some luck . So far McCann is 1/2 a season of luck falling into Hahn's lap. Mostly picked because all other cheap FA catchers were ancient.
