  1. In a stunning turn of events, look who's here for some good ol' fashioned negativity! Top prospects never struggle! Plus I took your advice and got a dog, so take your extreme uselessness elsewhere.

  3. You came off as exceptionally idiotic when you started it, so yeah stopping that any day now would look good on you

  4. He's absolutely correct. This isn't some crazy stat-geek thing, it's common sense. A pitcher has no control over the offense that backs him. Pitching masterfully with a horse-shit offense can still quite often result in a loss or a no decision. Judging a pitcher on a wins/loss record is antiquated thinking, and thankfully most people have accepted that nowadays.

  7. You could argue this team should be a few games over .500 already if it wasn't for dumb managerial decisions he's made.

  8. I mean, we get you're a negative guy, but the Sox have clearly changed their tune on a number of things in recent history. 1. They did a legit rebuild that no one thought they'd ever do. 2. They spent $50M an a teenager, and paid a $25M tax in doing so. 3. Just last week they drafted 8 high schoolers, something they haven't done in a very long time (if ever?). 4. Within the past 6 months, they have offered both Machado and Harper mega-deals that would have smashed their previous largest contract by almost $200 million. Its safe to say they were in the top 3-4 most aggressive teams bidding for their services. The Sox have clearly changed the way their operate in recent year,s and anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't been paying attention, or just doesn't care to view the operations of the White Sox in an anything other than a negative lens. I completely agree that Cole is going to receive top offers. The Sox may well not win the bidding. But I imagine they'll be in the mix, and as I said yesterday, they're fucking idiots if they're unwilling to pay him $150-170M over 5-6 years. They can't force the guy to sign the dotted line, but I suspect they'll be competitive. There is a clear delineation between last offseason and this coming offseason. We all knew that Machado and/or Harper would jumpstart the rebuild. We all wanted them. But we also knew that this team was not ready for prime time. Next offseason is different, in many way, and the Sox can make the argument 2020 is the beginning of their actual window. I suspect the trend of things changing to continue this offseason. Including all arb eligible players, the Sox payroll will be in $45-50M range next season before adding any free agents. They clearly are not going to operate in that area, and could easily add $60-70M+ to the payroll. Machado would have been awesome. I wanted him more than anything. But not even being a fanboy, its so easy to see how that is going to be a bullet dodged. That contract could have crippled the Sox flexibility, and as of now, they are one of the most contractually nimble organizations in baseball. Open your eyes and try to be objective instead of continuing to scream into the void.

  14. Rick deserves flack for his shortcomings undoubtedly - the draft still hasnt shown anything for him yet and his FA signings have not been great. But... let's talk about Rick's trades and the risks he took trusting his team with the talent they still saw. Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease for Quintana. Could he have possibly gotten a better package? If Eloy continues to grow and Cease is even a back end guy this is a steal assuming Eloy is the player he has shown he can be. I'd say no. Eloy a franchise offensive talent and cease just needs to be good enough to start for this to be a huge win. The Chris Sale trade will never be lopsided. Sale is too good for that but if he netted a 4-5+ WAR 3rd baseman for 6 years and a 3 starter (which is conservative) with a 2-3 WAR in Kopech then both sides win and Hahn looks sharp for him moving that talent into his window. The Adam Eaton trade. This could be an all-timer. If Lopez finds consistency or dunning bounces back, adding onto the fact that giolito alone would more than enough, this turns into an all time trade win. Giolito was trending downward but the arm talent was there. The Sox love the term arm talent in their organization. They maximized this one and now need to find that potion with reynaldo We can hate on Hahn and we can claim he had great assets but plenty of guys have traded away great assets for nothing. It looks like Hahn has traded his assets for the exact right pieces. Kudos. Go Sox.

  15. Just a thorough beat down where our best players showed up. There have been a lot of times in recent seasons where the Yankees series arrived at a time where I started to be optimistic and the Yankees would just obliterate us. This team showed up for a packed house, against a marquee team, with their best pitcher going for ten wins. Im very grateful.

  16. That's what I'm afraid of. Need him to be thinking of where we can find two pitchers and a right fielder.

  17. Overreacting? Giolito has probably been the biggest positive development of the year and Ricky put him out there in a high risk situation for no reason. It’s absolutely inexcusable and fans have a right to be pissed.

  18. Renteria is an absolutely terrible coach. Zero reason for Lucas to be out there for the 7th when the weather is shitty and he was already starting to lose his command. What a fucking clown.

  19. Can’t win a game if your offense doesn’t score runs or the bullpen blows a lead. That right there proves wins are more or less meaningless for evaluating starters (although still a fun stat to cheer for).

  20. Greg has been saying that Ricky deserves manager of the year for the record he has led this ballclub to. They are nearly .500 with a terrible starting staff and some very bad players like Alonso, Wellington. Do you agree with @greg775? Does Ricky deserve manager of the year?

  21. There we go. You are the man. The White Sox WINNER thread is a tradition at Soxtalk but has been losing steam since SS2k5 disappeared along with Caulfield. Was bummed not to see one yesterday after such a nice comeback win. Let's keeo it up Sox fans even if 2 or more winner threads get started they can be merged, Oh yeah and make sure you vote some Sox players into the All Star game by doing all you votes every day.

  22. So this is what .500 looks like in June...nice view. First time the Sox have been at .500 this late in the season since 2012. I was hoping to get a split in this series. Mission accomplished. Now I'm hoping for three out of four...we'll see. Gio continues his amazing run and Eloy looks like he is starting to figure it out.

  33. I was there (for real) upper tank Left Field until they called the second game. Some of the attempts at historical revisionism are really absurd. Kids like me were raised on the rock and roll from the late 60's / early 70's and enjoyed listening to the great albums from that day AND the FM radio stations that played them, like .WDAI, WGLD, etc.. We were not into disco music, disco dancing or dressing like John Travolta did in Saturday Night Fever. Wayyyy too much has been made of the event, which tore up some sod and forfeited one game for our crappy team. I recall smoking a joint on the cat walk that went behind the scoreboard and then watching a few idiots throw 33 rpm vinyl albums from the second deck. That was one of the dumber moves....but large groups of young teenagers often get emboldened to misbehave. The hooliganism that lasted about an hour was nothing compared to the weapons related violence and murders that takes place every day now in Chicago and other major cities. The only people that had guns at Disco Demolition night were the Police. Nobody got shot, no teenagers and no Police. Maybe there is a lesson in there for some people but I doubt it. And the Cubs also sucked badly in those days and had sparse attendance at Wrigley. Santo was traded to the Sox and Kessinger played for and managed the White Sox. A few years earlier, Jack Brickhouse was the announcer for both the Sox and the Cubs on WGN TV.

  39. I am not going to repeat posts I've made in this very thread within the past 48 hours, but the Sox could sign Cole, Wood, Grandal, Gennett and Abreu this offseason for less money than Machado got. I would take those 5 guys over Machado every single day.

  43. Disco Demolition isn’t something to celebrate, especially in a diverse city like Chicago during Pride Month of all months. Disco Demolition was a fearful response to the growing popularity of artist who were either black, hispanic, gay or female. That’s nothing to proud of. It’s rather shameful.

  45. I don't understand how his performance has been bad at any point in his career. His seasonal WARs: 5.8, 3.8, 2.7, 4.8 for first four complete seasons, and his next year he had 1.7 in a partial season that he was injured. He's getting killed on BABIP this season but is still crushing the ball in terms of XBH. I just can't really be negative about Abreu.
