  5. Thinking anderson should have seen that third was the play there is an interesting take. This one is on Yoan - he needs to be yelling 3 there. That ball was hit deep enough in the hole that anderson cant be taking his eye off the ball to check third and he did not have any time to check it before the play to one. Yoan needs to be aggressive and loud there as he is Timmy's eyes on that play because tim had to focus on the ball.. since that's kinda important and all.

  8. dude I uh, have had two fully ruptured patella tendons, at the same time. There's like 5 of those in the entire US every year. I was a presige charity case for my surgeon and I have blown past the best case outcome (full recovery to all activity basically). also have had a completely shattered foot requiring 4 pins and months off it. I know pain and I know athletes in pain. If all he has is a really an ankle sprain (yea had a lot of those too) and had to be helped off like that I can say that's a bit of a diva move. i love TA man, but I call it like I see it. anyways go sox and go TA!

  10. This whole ridiculous mess with pitching is not Renteria's fault. I might be in the minority as I think Ricky has done a nice job with this club and the young guys

  15. I don't see how you can come here and constantly play the martyr but here we are. No debate class, just annoyed at your constant playing the victim, dismissal of anyone who actually brings facts to a discussion, and you calling people haters and sabes many, MANY, people on this site have spent hours writing long form posts that's debate things that you dismiss and barely skim. So happy for you that avi is finally having a good season, it's so great that it took 5 years of fucking around in a white Sox uniform to actually have another good season. Yay avi. Yay

  18. Ozzie? I have never seen a manager, in any sport, quit on his team worse than Ozzie. He managed in a way so that he would be fired and allowed to take a position with a different team. That should never be forgiven. He burned the bridge.

  19. This is what I would like the White Sox do for a change. If they think they need to change managers, give it some real thought, interview more than one guy, and even consider baseball men outside the organization. In fact, they should make up their minds and hire someone who has never been connected to the team. For once, treat this job as if it was important and approach the hiring that way.

  20. Anderson has been 98, 78 and 85 in wRC+ before this season. Is he going to stay at 120 for the rest of this season? Probably not. Is he one of the best ten or twelve SS’s in baseball? Undoubtedly, despite the brain cramps, routine play blunders and occasional overaggressiveness when caution is called for on the basepaths. Like Jose Valentin, he makes up for those blunders with his range and arm. In the end, it’s a huge win to get 3-4 fWAR out of him on a consistent basis. He’s one of our five young core position players moving forward. He’s also probably not the superstar he looked like the first six weeks, and walk rates will always suppress his full offensive value. Finally, replacing your SS is probably the hardest move you can make as an organization...along with developing a young catcher who can both hit and field. Being objective about a player on your team is far from being a hater. My point was that moving him to the outfield creates an even bigger hole to fill at SS.

  21. No....just no. The clamoring for Ozzie by several White Sox fans because of what he did 14 years ago is flabbergasting.

  24. Losing with Alonso and Jay in the lineup is hard to take. I'd rather they turn a page and move on from them both. I am going to give a bit of a meathead take here, but I'd rather see a lifelong Sox fan like Tilson in the lineup than Jay. And I think I'd rather see Cordell more because of his upside. Give Cordell extended at bats and see what we have and if he does not produce, move on.

  30. Let’s just say there has never been a GM better positioned with the mid market payrolls of the AL central and the ability to jump start the rebuild with Sale, Eaton, Q...not to mention Frazier/Kahnle/Robertson. Even if we have the best group of young position players in baseball...we have five young starting pitchers with TJS already in their histories and the Lopez. We’ve spent multiple years bringing in college relievers yet don’t have anything resembling a lockdown pen. We largely don’t play smart baseball and have outdated coaches at the major league level. We’ve probably already wasted picks on Fulmer, Burdi, Hansen (at least the upside was there), Burger, Sheets...and have hit a complete brick wall in terms of any of the four remaining minor league OF prospects after Robert even being close to ready for 2020...meaning we need to at the very least rent a RFer for 2-3 years. Collins is just as much suspect as prospect. All of the lesser trades since 2016 have brought in...well, maybe nobody who will contribute to our next playoff team. Palka and Fry last year are worth very little this year. We have lots of utility players and 4th/5th infielders...but the only real breakthrough has been the play of McCann. Other than that move, we might have had the worst offseason in recent memory, as Colome might be dealt and our catching situation still is unresolved long-term.

  31. This is spot on especially the part about removing the luck along with a superstar having a down half a season and still would be our best player. The worst thing about loving Giolito or Moncada or Eloy and Anderson is that they have no sustained success and we cannot yet expect them to do well because any young player can get hot and then revert back to being bad. That is always the worry until they get a few good years in a row under their belts. It is the same thing with counting on Robert and Madrigal. All these players have so very little time actually being good and in the case of prospects not even good at the highest level. It's great to have hope and believe it's all working but there is nothing wrong with having as close to a sure thing as you can get. Taylor Street couldn't have said Hahn was killing it 6 months ago. He shouldn't be claiming victory based on a few months of sample size. Not to mention all the other bad GM'ing things bmags brought up in Hahn's reign.

  33. Why just another year or two? We should give up on him if he doesn't improve in a year or two? Let him go? The guy had a .781 OPS in his age 21 season at a level where most were older than him.

  34. This is unrealistic though. No one is trading a quality starter at this time of year. Most teams are still in the race for a wild card and if they aren't they probably don't have a pitcher the Sox want. Even if they are willing, the price is probably too high right now. It will be interesting to see how the trade market changes with no extended waiver trade deadline this year.

  35. He was near it but he absolutely was not vocal. He's moved around a lot so I definitely give him a pass but that was on Yoan. If I'm running down a ball in the left centerfield gap with runners on base, my left fielder is yelling a base for when I come up with the ball. Either cut, 3 or 2. I'm not finding the ball and then finding the runners. That takes too much time. If the play is not in front of you, your teammates should be guiding you.

  37. The author of The MVP Machine was interviewed on Sox Machine. I would give it a listen if you haven't yet, its today's ( June 24th) episode. The interview talked about how the Dodgers and Astros will be dominating the league for years based on how much money they put into their farm teams and approach in development. Verlander and Cole have revamped their careers based on Astros analytics, and the Dodgers have been able to turn around a lot of careers around. Listening to how the Astros' farm teams are dominating at every level (stats wise) it makes me feel awful about what we have outside of our top 3. It also worries me that the Twins have taken notice and have also adjusted their developmental approach to hitting. Look at their at their prospects. It is paying dividends for them so far, and its becoming clear they won't be a one and done type of team. Look at what the Dodgers have been doing with their young players. Now look at us.. Burger, Collins and Fulmer, and how our top prospect had to go to his high school pitching coach for guidance. Its a scary thought to think we have a window of contention, whereas teams that are taking their farm systems seriously will be able to become yearly competitors thanks to a stream of minor league depth. How far behind is our organization really? In Big Data Baseball the book made numerous mentions on how the Sox were one of the last teams to start paying attention to analytics. How much do they believe in them these days and to what extent?

  38. Let’s get this dude, move Cooper into an advisory role/roving instructor and hire Brian Bannister to be the pitching guy in the organization. He’s very analytical inclined and has been working for the Red Sox for the past few years http://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/why-hasnt-rising-star-brian-bannister-left-red-sox%3famp https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/06/07/boston-red-sox-brian-bannister-mvp-machine

  40. The White Sox 2016 class is pretty promising and there are some interesting guys (Jose Rodriguez) in the AZL from the last couple years. Allocating resources in this manner is a bit puzzling but they must see something in the bat of Sanchez. They saw him a lot since he was teammates with Robert.

  45. The point of people advocating signing for Machado was to remove some of the luck required in the rebuild, however. And much of the criticism is of process, which doesn't mean the outcomes cannot be good. I am very happy with Moncada, Anderson, Eloy and Giolito. You can see my posts post-machado, there was always a way to contention but weirdly enough getting players whose down years get you an .850 OPs and great defense was what I wanted! But the main issues are well documented, but aside from injuries it has been : - Still developing player development operation - Inability to convert more depth from international scouting operation - Inability to convert more depth from rounds 3-10 in draft - Consistently signing free agents that then produce the worst year of their careers. Regardless of whether the free agents are supposed to be "part of the core", signing free agents during our competing years of 2014-16 proved to be an awful mark on Hahns tenure, and he has not gotten better. And I do not want to hear about McCann, I'm as happy as ever on signing him, but every GM in the game has a McCann that has been around longer than 2 years. When we started the rebuild, the expectation was we were setting ourselves up for consistent contention. Trading away three great, cost controlled players for prospects and multiple top ten picks should net us great prospects and a competitive team. It's fair for people to judge whether their process is consistent with other organizations who are putting together consistently excellent teams.

  46. Thank you, "CaliSoxFan..". Although strong arguments can be made that left handed hitters have some distinct advantages, my argument is not based upon that. I wouldn't want an all left handed hitting lineup, anymore than I do an all right handed hitting lineup. Of course, I'd prefer a good all right handed hitting lineup, to a poorly balanced lineup. However, if we are discussing acquisitions, why not try to find someone who could provide "better balance," as you stated? So, what is so important about "balance". A pitcher can more easily find his slot, when facing a lineup consisting of every hitter from the same side of the plate. Having to pitch differently, to each hitter is made more difficult by the adjustments required to effectively deal with a succession of hitters, who bat from opposite sides of the plate. A right handed pitcher may be very effective throwing his breaking pitches to most right handed hitters. If he faces a succession of them, he can more easily get into a good groove, and just try to consistently maintain it. If he has to face a few left handed hitters, he is forced to use a different approach. The challenge of having to make that necessary adjustment simply places an added burden on the pitcher. That is the reason that a manager will try to stagger his lineup, by alternating right and left handed hitters, where possible. It is much easier for an opposing manager to manage his bullpen, if all of your dangerous hitters bat from the same side of the plate. By alternating right and left handed hitters, you force your opponent to consider bringing in different relievers, in order to navigate through the dangerous part of the batting order. Absent that balance, an opposing manager can simply leave a reliever in the game, until he reaches the number of pitches, deemed to be his limit, for that appearance. It appears that almost every position is practically set, for the approaching window of contention. Most of us would be willing to bet that the following players will be starting in 2021: LF Eloy CF Robert 3B Moncada SS Anderson 2B Madrigal 1B Vaughn C Collins and maybe McCann That leaves just DH and RF as major question marks. If the Sox extend Abreu, that leaves only RF as a hole to fill. There are several promising outfield prospects, but it's doubtful that anyone will be ready soon. That's why I agree with "Eminor3rd," who suggested adding Shogo Akiyama, if he elects to come to the U.S. Something like a 3 year deal could be a very good solution to the RF problem. Moreover, he would not likely demand so much money, that it would impede the front office's ability to sign the more needed additional pitching.

  47. I don't think they planned too. They are expecting to compete next year with a rotation base of Giolito, Lopez, Cease, Kopech and Rodon with Dunning in the minors. They didn't want to acquire anyone who would take innings away from that group for next year. Even with Rodon going down they really only have one spot for next year. For this year they can fill the rotation with literally anyone. Find another Despaigne.
