  1. Palka is awful. Amazing how many sox fans still think he is worthy of a mlb roster spot

  2. You would have complained about that too. That's why nobody takes you seriously.

  3. Writing off Rutherford after struggling in his first stint in AA despite him being 1.7 years younger than league average was always dumb and a. stupid reactionary hot take.

  4. Ha, this is very confusing because Generic posted the wrong link and double quotes don’t work. I was excited by Sox pumping their analysts full of steroids though.

  5. We spent money this offseason and ended up with a 0 fWAR net return with all the new players that came onboard. That list, not including Giolito...is now six starting pitchers deep with TJS in their histories. Last year, the rebuild was derailed by an injury to just one of them, which shouldn’t happen with all the talent we’ve had to trade and a series of higher first round draft picks. Eaton is not a clear fleecing until Giolito or Lopez go on to sustained run of success for two seasons or sign an extension. Because at this point, with the uncertainty moving forward with Lopez, you simply filled one hole in the starting rotation but created an equally big one in RF. You need to get at least 2/3 of those pitchers as dependable rotation members first. Money/flexibility only matters if it’s spent wisely, and Abreu/Tatis/Robert all were largely scouting coups for Paddy/KW. Fwiw, Tatis, Sr., was practically begging the White Sox not to trade his son and already predicting how much more he would fill out. So even if Robert becomes a five tool superstar and stays healthy, we’ve missed out on or or traded two back to the NL. We also failed to exploit the Robert class with our unprecedented financial flexibility (to bring in a plethora of fellow international signees simultaneously) in order to cushion the pressure on the rotation with future depth and we still have YET to sign a legit impact FA for more than $75 million... And then a dismal track record with FA signings, regardless of the opportunity cost/money allocated. The only thing that continues to protect him is JR and the penurious ways of our fellow AL Central competitors...in almost any other division, anything but a Wild Card would be next to impossible with our ongoing pitching woes.

  6. Exactly. And the White Sox narrative is to not spend big cash on top free agent talent so get back to me when it actually happens. Ownership being flush with money to spend does not equal money spent.

  7. The Soxtalk narrative is don’t tell us how well a so-called rebuild is going, or how flush ownership is with money to spend. Tell us when a sustainable winning product has been put on the field by this franchise, the only major market team in the weakest division in baseball. That’s what we’re interested in.

  8. And yeah, based on the rebuild being exactly where it's supposed to be despite injuries to Kopech, Rodon, Dunning, Hansen, Burdi, Hamilton, Adolfo, Basabe, Lambert, Burger and a few others kind of shows that Hahn might know what he's doing. He absolutely fleeced the Cubs and Nationals and we still have a shitload of money to spend. I know, it doesn't fit the Soxtalk narrative though.

  9. Years ago I could have had a job with the White Sox. I couldn't take it. I had other concerns at the time. Looking back at that, I should have taken the job.I figure I could have moved up the ladder over time and would have probably become the White Sox GM.

  20. No more excuses. Yes, Hahn has made good trades but that has nothing to do with how awful of an acquisition Alonso was. Trading a prospect and helping a division opponent free up $9 million in a failed attempt at signing his brother-in-law who you wouldn’t show the money to is a massive whiff. Alonso isn’t even a good power bat over his career. Hahn blew it.

  24. Ha. Rick Hahn is the brilliant mind who traded for Mr. Alonso. If this Sox team is 15 games out of the Division this time next year then it is time for Hahn to be sent packing as well.

  28. I don't think next year will be a get back to .500 season. They will spend money this off season and call up Robert and Madrigal in April. Not to mention our division will have the awful Royals and Tigers, the sliding Indians, and an unknown Twins team after their pending talent loss. Next season will most likely be a get back to 95 wins season.

  29. One of the nicest men I have ever had the pleasure of spending time around. Billy was the FIL of my old man's best friend growing up - RIP as Jerry died before Billy at a young age. Billy was also my old man's little league coach. Billy played in a day when you had an offseason job. Billy was always upbeat and positive and overall a pleasure to be around. He was robbed of the HOF - he was better than Whitey he just played for some of the worst offenses in MLB history.

  30. 1) Get Varnell to A+ already. Dude is 24. What are we waiting for? 2) Palka's BB% is ~14% this year. Give him another shot. Tilson/Cordell have nothing. 3) Jimmy Cordero is 10/1 K/BB with 1 ER in 8.1IP at Charlotte. He's also racking up the GB. Very small sample size, but if he's going to be on the 40 man, let's let him get the next opportunity in the pen over Viera/Ruiz/Osich crap. 4) Tyler Johnson is back and doing Tyler Johnson things. Good to see. Dude has done nothing but put people down since joining the Sox org. Hopefully up in AA soon. 5) Steele Walker beating the piss out of the ball in W-S is exactly what we needed on the farm. 6) Tiquan Forbes has doubled his career BB% this year settling in at 12.6% and a 113 wRC+. This dude is a real athlete. Great to see his game evolving. Still just 22.

Semien at #3 and Anderson at #10. 3 of the Top Ten If you count Tatis, Jr. Iglesias was 4th. The craziest stat was in RF though... https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=rf&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2018-01-01&enddate=2018-12-31

  32. Thanks James, this was great. I don't know, I'm in between arguments. THings have certainly shifted to the point where I think we can really say paddy has become successful. He has identified and pushed for signing an all star 1b, the top prospect in baseball (of which we get no fruits), a top 5 prospect in baseball, and for a time top 100 prospect in baseball (adolfo). But I am not sure I buy this "sox prefer a quantitative approach" mainly because the sox are rarely even at the top for most signings in any given period are they? Seems like the yankees still sign 30 guys plus 3-4 top 30 ones. Other teams aren't avoiding signing lenyn sosas, they have their own in their class. It doesn't mean they are bad or wrong, but after years of lack of success I'd just like sox to go all-in more. A complete quantity play with the most signings of all teams in a period. A play like the yankees or as where we throw everything ad jasson dominguez or puason. But they are just half-in, they say they are quantity but don't actually own the 500-1million market either. It's just confusing but the next two years are going to provide the most clarity, because there seems to be some production that may come out of the 17/18 classes, more than expected.

  37. Was this a bad attempt at sarcasm? Because basically every team does this. You can listen to the teams announcing picks on the last day and at the end there are a ton where they mention some relation or connection to the organization.

  39. Speaking of which: I have absolutely no idea how the White Sox won this game today. Jose absolutely saved their asses, kudos to him! It was the 6th time the Sox trailed in the 7th inning or later and won, 3rd time this year in the 9th inning and 2nd time against Boston. That being said it was more stupid decision making in the field and the bullpen is starting to collapse I assume from all the work since the starting pitching is so bad. Had a lead Saturday in Texas (lost), had a lead Monday in Boston (lost), had a lead Tuesday in Boston (lost) had a lead Wednesday in Boston (SHOULD have lost). Bummer and Marshall are reverting back to their norms, even Alex blew a save (although it wasn't completely his fault). Hahn needs to get these guys some help. Not just to get through this year but to prevent even more injuries moving forward. History lesson: Down the stretch in 2000, the Sox were fighting to hang on to the division lead despite having lost starters like James Baldwin and Cal Eldred. GM Ron Scheuler couldn't or wouldn't get the pitching help they so desperately needed forcing guys to work even harder to bring the division title home. End result...a half dozen guys had off season surgery, some never recovered (Mike Sirotka, Jim Parque), Baldwin was never the same, relief pitchers like Bob Howry and Kelly Wunsch came back but were missing something. You can't just think about this year the way this staff is on life support you have to think ahead. Time to earn that money Hahn.

  40. Very polished high schooler. Has a starters mix that he can throw for strikes. Keith Law said that if he were to go to college and perform well he would be selected in the front half of the first round. Obviously that's a big IF. Where Spencer Adams is drafted high for his projectables, size and athleticism, Dalquist is drafted high for his ability to pitch.

  41. WAR ignores all context and doesn’t account for the fact a good reliever comes in late in the game with a win on the line. There is significant value being able to hold a lead late or close a game out and that’s completely ignored by WAR.

  42. The Sox dont take players 1-10 unless they know they can sign them. Look for Dalquist to sign for $1.9M-$2.2M by the end of the week.

  45. Yeah, and the point is you don't NEED left handed hitters to succeed as a team. If Robert, Madrigal, Jimenez, Vaughn, and Anderson are all really good, they'll be fine. They won't NEED a lefty...but luckily they'll have Moncada to break it up. Oh the joy.
