No, you weren't. This needless underhanded jab proves it. He was just cracking a joke. You're such a miserable ass...13 points

my only philosophy on baseball (as a young person) is that old players like colome are useless (as are saves, since I am a statnik) and should be force retired. If that's not possible, flipping them is an okay consolation prize. White sox should seek to ensure their roster is as young player as possible, as the old players may rub off on them and turn them old.5 points

I'm going to call him "Madrigal" who is with me?!4 points

I don't dislike Madrigal as a prospect, but it's funny how he went from criminally underrated to criminally overrated in a month.3 points

Without fail I have been critical of the move, but at this point I have to say it. The Nova acquisition was absolutely worth it.3 points

I'd rather have the media hype Vlad Jr. over the other son of a former major leaguer who is 20 and is miles better as a player for my sanity..3 points

It was just a throwaway blurb from an aggregater site. you guys probably spent more time debating its meaning than the author spent writing it.3 points

Luis Rodriguez just was moved from DSL to AZL today. We have done it with others, not often, but it is done.3 points

Right, while nearly all posters can blend the many factors that go into our opinions on what the team should do to be a consistent contender moving forward (age, control, position, productivity, future outlook, etc), greg can only handle one, so he assume all of us are only focused on a single input as well. And despite pointing this out, he will not be able to grow or change, because this has been pointed out to him roughly 1000x to him during the last 10 years at least and nothing.3 points

I see I missed the memo that everyone was getting wasted tonight and pretending Madrigal got to play 81 games in Colorado2 points

Yes, I'm sorry, please go on and explain how this 26 year old first baseman who has declining power numbers repeating AAA for the third time in one of the best hitting environments in baseball, in a season with a surge in offensive output due to a change in baseballs, in one of the best talent identifying and developing organizations in baseball, is going to be JD martinez. JD martinez of course, was an actual big leaguer for years before, a fringey poor defensive outfielder who completely remade his swing in an offseason and it didn't manifest itself in the limited playing time they had to re-evaluate it before releasing him. What has changed since 2013? Well they have added millions in technology and coaching that would have helped show them that his swing plane had changed, launch angle had become consistently better and his exit velocity improved. They have turned over almost all of the staff since then. They actually held themselves accountable for the mistake. But yes, nice anecdote. I'm sure AJ Reed is going to be JD Martinez just like Yolmer is going to be a superstar. You called it.2 points

Remember, Real brings nothing but those truth bombs so clearly the Sox bungled his defensive development in the short time he was with us!!2 points

Uh collins is 3 years younger and catches and this is his first ever taste of the majors. Palka is the worst defensive player in MLB baseball and cant hit and has had like 600 mlb at bats. Weird that you cant seperate the two.2 points

I like Madrigal but my god people are going to be disappointed with him because of unrealistic expectations. .350 average with a .908 OPS??1 point

70 extra base hits?! 70?! The dude had 28 in 500 plate appearances in the minors. You're asking him to double his power as he goes UP to the majors.1 point

Gladney home run number 5. Also weirdly Camilo Quintero suddenly showed up in Birmingham. Assuming it’s for Madrigal but strange first ABs. Edit: never mind just your run of the mill milb.com screw up saying it was Quintero’s first game.1 point

If he lived in the us most of his life would he have been an International prospect? Maybe vlad left the family on the island.1 point
-
Yeah, he walks more and K's less. He is also 1 year and a half older and played 3 years of big time NCAA baseball, so... he should really BB more and K less right? You're right that Walker is improving, and his numbers right now are incomplete and SSS. I didn't write that, because I thought it was inherent to the conversation. Rutherford had a terrible start and maybe it was due to bad luck. He is hot right now and maybe that is good luck. So, he is normalizing. In a terrible hitter's park. In a league that is a very challenging jump from A ball. That doesn't seem all bad.1 point

That was me. Glad to see the Sox give Reed a shot. Nothing to lose. He probably sucks, but no reason to not give him a shot.1 point

Honestly I kinda forgot about him. If he has any trade value dump him for a bucket of balls and a rosin bag. Maybe a sunflower seed bucket to be named later.1 point

Willians Astudillo would be your point of comparison, and he stinks. So it’s possible. Madrigal being able to run helps though. I also imagine Nick will be able to walk more than he strikesout unlike Astudillo1 point

Butler and Westbrook? Well that sounds like 2 guys who have a strong reputation of adapting their game to work with the people they're playing with.1 point

The difference is that the Astros are top notch in drafting and developing prospects. So if they make a bad trade, new prospects to replenish the till are right around the corner. the White Sox are not good at it, so mistakes magnify. Hahn's two biggest mistakes were in trades he shouldn't have made anyway because he was getting very little in return1 point

This could be the sign I don't want. They are trading Jose and this guy is ready to immediately take over at first. ... It's pretty obvious. Hahn is definitely trade-happy and he will simply tell people like me who are upset that they may try to sign Jose in the offseason. They'll have to be careful, however, as that might mean they don't believe this new guy can hit in the bigs.1 point

Since June 1st two players have dominated the league to the tune of a wRC+ of 198. Those two players? One is Mike Trout. The other is Yoan Moncada.1 point

Reed was assigned to Triple-A. I'd bet on Wely coming off the IL after the break and Collins getting a bulk of the DH at bats.1 point

We are attempting this for FutureSox right now. I'm currently doing this: 1. Luis Robert OF 2. Michael Kopech RHP 3. Dylan Cease RHP 4. Nick Madrigal 2B 5. Andrew Vaughn 1B 6. Zack Collins C 7. Dane Dunning RHP 8. Steele Walker OF 9. Luis Alexander Basabe OF 10. Andrew Dalquist RHP 11. Micker Adolfo OF 12. Blake Rutherford OF 13. Luis Gonzalez OF 14. Matthew Thompson RHP 15. How this turned into an actual Nova thread I have no idea, but I'm with you. 2 Cubs wins def worth 9 mil. Hoping we make it 18 mil next season1 point

I think it is easy for people to forget this and perhaps be a bit worn out on Rutherford. Rutherford's OPS was higher in WS last year, than what Walker has put up this year. WIth that said, they are very close. Like .005 close. But Rutherford turned 21 while he was at WS, and Walker will turn 23 this month. They seem to be similar types of hitters with similar types of production but Rutherford is younger and more advanced. Hopefully his recent surge is a sign that he has adjusted to the AA crucible. Hopefully Walker gets there soon and continues to hit.1 point

Palka and Madrigal are exact opposites. Everything Palka is good at, Madrigal can't do. Everything Madrigal is good at, Palka can't do.1 point

I agree with with your last comment. It's going to be a boring four days without White Sox baseball. Sorry, but watching the three in the all-star game is not the same.1 point

There is zero doubt that we all need to move on from the damn Tatis trade. It happened and it's over. It's BEEN over. Would I like to have him? Of course, but we don't. I like where we're at, moving on now... However, just to answer the question of "why?" do we still dwell on it. It's not just that the trade wound up being so disastrously bad. First off, a lot of it is that James Shields performance had been pretty damn discouraging at the time we traded for him. He had been downright mediocre-to-subpar in one of the most pitcher friendly home ball parks in the national league. It's one thing to move a top prospect for a piece that helps you or could help you contend for a world series. It's a whole other thing to move a top prospect (in a year where you've already essentially fallen apart, nonetheless) for a guy that was rather clearly not better than what you had. At the very least, he appeared to only be a slight improvement. We "magically" just expected him to come here, unite with Coop and return to his TB/KC form. It was very confusing and I still don't get it. Again, even if Shields turned out to be steady/reliable as a middle of the rotation guy - our season was still heading into the shitter. That's why the trade still stands out like a sore thumb among others. Even at the time, it was head scratching to most fans. Then, it blew up far worse than we all had even imagined it could. That's the difference to me. Other trades this organization has made, even if you disagree with them - you can at least follow a coherent train of thought with the FO. Even if it's wrong in your mind, there is SOME rationale behind it. There is SOME potential upside. With the Shields trade. My initial reaction was "WTF".... then my reaction after seeing Shields pitch was "What the f***ing f**k?". Then... we had to sit and watch Tatis develop. Hear his ass getting lapped by the usual outlets as a stud prospect. All the while Shields is the American League's punching bag. Then, he reaches the big leagues and he's EVERYTHING that he was hyped up to be and more. It wasn't just one clean head shot. Where you go "okay, we lost that one". We walked into a knife and it was twisted/turned for a few years before it was finally pulled out. With Tatis arriving and Shields having departed, I think we've all reached that acceptance phase. The wound is healing. But man, it DID suck on a different level. There's no reason to dwell on the trade at this point, that IS 100% silly. However, I think it's also pretty silly to try and rationalize it as not being all that bad. It wasn't "just another deal" where you can go "eh... win some, lose some". In order to move on from a tragedy, you have to accept the reality of it. lol Like I said, though. I'm done with it. I'm going to try to make this the last thread that I address it. haha1 point
