Listen if you make him a DH at age 22, then he's a bust. I'd rather continue risking him in the OF than remove basically all his upside as a player so early in his career.5 points

I know it's a super unpopular opinion but ever since Eloy returned from injury in May to yesterday, I don't think he was bad in LF4 points

he was a major factor on the 2005 championship team, and if you can't see how bad eloy is then that's on you, wow3 points

Soxtalk gonna Soxtalk. A player comes up and has a good week = he's part of the future. Player comes up and has a bad week = hes awful and will never improve. Obviously not part of rebuild. Classic Soxtalk.3 points

This is only year 3 of a 5-6 year rebuild. The Sox have plenty of time to find a left fielder.3 points

Why does every other team get to hit the new “tightly wound” “less drag” baseballs, and the White Sox have to use the 1906 version?2 points

Thanks for the Cubs wins Ivan, but I Nova want to see you in a Sox uniform much longer2 points

Worst case scenario he gets TJ surgery. Even in that scenario it’s not like he’s stuck at DH forever. Look at Otani in LA, guy is a 2 way player and even as a DH full time he is having a great season. He’ll be back to pitching and hitting next year without being rushed. Some people here are so worried about player’s value at certain positions. Eloy can still work on his reads, fly balls, and routes while recovering and still be an OF after a year. It’s not like TJ is endgame for his positional career. Plus he’ll still be able to hit, we love him because of his bat not because of his Engel -esque defense.2 points

Just so someone keeps saying this... Both of Eloy's injuries are the kind of thing that should be limited by effective coaches working with these outfielders.2 points
-
I agree. This wasnt a case of him going for the ball awkwardly or trying to put his foot on the wall. This was him making a good aggressive play for the ball. If Tilson wasnt there it wouldnt have been an issue. This was a communication issue not a bad outfield play issue like the ankle injury.2 points

Bingo? You agree that Adam Engel might be their best hitter. Jesus fuck what a fan base2 points

Fundamentals win or lose games. The White Sox don't seem to care about them, don't seem to stress them and then when you get games like tonight...outfielders running into each other, guys missing cut offs, errant pick off throws, outfielders taking bad angles / decisions turning hits into extra base hits...nothing is said, nothing is done, no one is held accountable. Same BS we've seen for years. And with respect, please don't give me the "rebuilding" excuse. High school teams know how to do these things, how can "professionals" not be able to? Just sickening tonight to a bad pitcher and a God-awful team.2 points

The first half was obviously a mirage. They should be trying to sell a contender on those first half numbers and trade him for a huge haul.1 point

In terms of fangraphs WAR he'd have to be worth -10 runs as a fielder in LF to equal out to being a DH in terms of value. He is currently at -5.7 runs so basically on pace for -10 if he were to play the full season. The hope would be that he would get less awful in the outfield with additional experience, but even then I don't think he projects to ever be even an average LF at this point.1 point

The Double Duty Classic is being played at Sox Park today. It's a game honoring the Negro Leagues and featuring HS players mostly from the City. Ed Howard will be playing. He's really really really good. Game time 1:00pm and televised on NBC Sports Chicago.1 point

8th. And it’s going to be tough to end up any higher than 7th, there’s like a 6 game gap after that. I’d take 7-8th this year. Supposed to be a deep draft.1 point

The offense being terrible in a lost season isn’t really a good justification to lose an extra year of control on Robert and Madrigal. I hope they wait until April of next year.1 point

That play early in the game was a carbon copy of the ending to Sunday’s. Infielders playing out of position trying to make plays they shouldn’t. Rondon should have take his time to get one out in Oakland...and Leury should have collected himself and made a controlled throw to first to get at least one out there. Cubs’ fans are complaining about their defense, but it’s still light years ahead of us. Cordell wants to play hero ball and dive for everything....but he apparently didn’t study that RF corner in KC to know that it wraps around and would result in an easy triple or even inside the park for a solid baserunner in Merrifield.1 point

Call me a dope, but any team that needs 6 or 7 years to rebuild off a tank job is an embarrassment to the sports world. An all-time embarrassment. Seven years is a long fricking time. One team can win it all. I'd rather do it MY WAY! The 2005 way.1 point

Lol...so the rebuild somehow magically ends right when Moncada & Giolito hit free agency. Step yo troll game up bro.1 point

Talent wins more games than anything, and there was very little talent at the plate for the Sox tonight. As for that, the talent level on the field the next few weeks is going to be embarrassing with Anderson and Eloy out.1 point

So Moncada has looked like ass for three and a half games? Giolito has a slight rough patch (leagues better than 2018 bad Lucas) and looked fine last night before he got hit by a ball. We don’t even know the extent of Eloy’s injury and it sounds like Timmy will be back soon. Not sure what you’re panicking about to be honest. This has been an absolutely awesome year for the young guys.1 point

I think the Sox plan is to try to get to 500 next year and try to compete for a wild card in 2021.1 point

2020 is looking more and more like another tank year with each passing day. The Sox need to basically replace half of their 25 man roster in one offseason. That is a tall task for a GM.1 point

You're back to being all over. You said to let it out play here but minutes before you made this comment, seemingly implying that he'll never be an ace or even a #2. "I can't say that he's anything more than a #3-4 that can pitch like an ace for stretches. He's probably always going to be inconsistent and maddening to people, because you see the ace in him but he can't keep his shit together long enough to actually pull it off."1 point
-
The only answer is no one has any idea what Giolito is going forward. He has a brand new delivery that is going to tax his body in different ways, so he's hit a wall. We don't know if he'll get over it or not.1 point

This is so perplexing. You spent a lot of last season telling everyone that Giolito was interesting and may become something good, and props to you for that. Now he's having an all-star season, and as one of his "biggest fans" (which you kind of aren't, if this is your opinion on him), he's now "nothing more than a 3-4"? That's ridiculous, he isn't the 1.5 ERA guy he was in May but he also isn't suddenly a #4 pitcher. Long-term I think he's a very good #2 or low-end #1 but two bad starts (and really just two bad innings, if we're being honest) doesn't take a guy from future ace to #4.1 point
