Sox fans have not been ridiculously patient with the rebuild. The Atros who many people use an example had 3 or 4 100 loss seasons during the rebuild. The Sox have had one. People can be pessimistic but let's not go overboard.5 points
-
NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, not one person, from the White Sox organization should ever say anything even remotely negative about the impatience the Sox fan base is having with this rebuild. Not after only one playoff appearance and just one measly playoff win in the 14 years since the World Series in '05. They should be grateful they even still have a fan base.5 points

Since when does a beautiful house take 5 years to build? Seriously though, I'm not sure who he's referring to. Sox fans have been ridiculously patient with this rebuild and the ones I know at least, they still are. Those guys have gotten more fan support for this rebuild that they ever deserved.5 points
-
The only problem I see with his house building analogy when it comes to the Sox is that in our scenario is like having faith in a builder that accidentally knocked our house down while doing simple repairs. I was/still am all in favor of a rebuild. It was the right thing to do. I just don’t have any faith in our front office to do the job correctly. And I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be pessimistic about the situation. Obviously it’s 100% out of my control and I just have to accept it, but I find it pretty damn hard to be positive4 points

Look. Here's what it is atleast with me. My patience is pretty low because this is the same group of guys that haven't been able to build a winning club the entire time they've been here. Kenny sure but that was a while ago. If those guys had been fired and a new group had been brought in with a good track record there would be much much more patience on my end. But right now especially after the Manny debacle they can kick rocks. I'm going to be critical of them until I start seeing results.3 points

What concerns me are injuries. They tend not to stop as you get older. I know Kopech and Rodon and Dunning will have no issues with their TJS even though White Sox minor league OF Adofo did. Anderson will never get hurt again. Eloy getting injured all the time will just stop. Robert's injuries will just stop, on and on and on. Hopefully, they all become healthy and stay there, but odds are it isn't going to happen that way.3 points

While this is only year 3 of the "Official rebuild", this is year 7 of being below .500 and year 11 missing the playoffs. The Astros were under .500 for 6 consecutive years and had a 9 year playoff drought during their rebuild. The Cubs were only below .500 for 5 years, and their playoff drought was only 6.2 points

I agree with this in total. And the Stone rant is typical of this organization. The team stinks and the organization lashes out at the fans. He is the last person to lecture me on anything. Don't tell me I have to like it when the team loses another game 10-1 or drops four in a row to one of the worst teams in baseball. What do the White Sox lead the league in? Blaming fans when things go wrong. The Adams. Yonder. Shark. What a bunch of great players. Where did they come from? I've met locusts with better personalities than Steve Stone. The words can't describe how disgusting this condescending crap is. Big changes should have been made 10 years ago. They weren't. That is why you're in this stupid rebuild. You had no plan and now you stink. Hey, Steve: You don't like the fans here? Get a gig in another major league city. I won't miss this crap. Did Reinsdorf tell him to do this? Sounds like it. It's a miracle anyone goes out to the ball park. I know I don't have plans of going there.2 points

Stopped reading after a house takes 5 years to build.2 points

So now they wheeled out Stone to make the excuses. Which rebuilder took 5 years, Stone? Certainly not Epstein, Luhnow, Beane, and the GMs of the Braves, Phillies, Brewers, Twins and Rays.2 points

Or...ya know, the Sox could just enjoy the 7 years of control they have of the kid. He's fairly injury prone. Do you really risk it and offer him something like 10/$150M? Not sure he'd take anything less, and even there you're only getting 3 extra seasons of control and you've taken on WAY more risk. I don't really think Robert is an extension candidate at all at this juncture.2 points

This is pretty lame. We all know Abreu is a leader in the clubhouse, nobody is gonna be like "dude your obp sucks this year you can't talk to me like that"2 points

How many times this year have our outfielders had miscommunications this year, or infielders/outfielders or catchers/3B/1B? It's ridiculous. And it's not like the one between Cordell and Jimenez tonight happened in front of 35-40,000 screaming fans. As DJ correctly pointed out, they need to do something different in terms of their communicating style or routine out there....he suggested that the CFer keep calling 3-4-5 times "I've got it" and that the corner outfielders should be taught/trained to only call "i've got it!!!" twice. If the CFer's still calling after two times, the corner guy defers and the CF takes it. If the CF stops calling after just two times, the corner outfielder knows he can't get to that particular ball....he needs to then make a full commitment and CF will peel off or bail out. Whether it's Daryl Boston, Steverson, Cooper...Renteria, something needs to be done to shake up this team before they completely go south. If Jimenez ends up missing major time with a hyperextended elbow, it's going to feel almost like a repeat of last year's injury to Kopech, in terms of zapping all the energy out of the fanbase. And if they do go on to trade Abreu and McCann...there will only be ONE interesting offensive player remaining in the line-up, Yoan Moncada.1 point

this is dumb. if you think he's the only player on the team with this opinion you're naive he's the team leader by all accounts, so he's the one who makes this kind of comment and you can be certain he's carrying the thoughts of his teammates with it just because Moncada has the best numbers on the team, doesn't mean he should be the arbiter of what the guys in the clubhouse are thinking and thus should speak freely to the media about it1 point

Luis Robert is that player you create on The Show and think "Haha, if only in real life... "1 point

He might be. But if you went just by the comments on this board, it's much more likely he is the most under-valued player in recent history.1 point

Time for me to defend Abreu, AGAIN. First about the frequently stated idea that Abreu is in an obvious decline is just wrong. But it's been said on here so often that many people just accept it as fact, when there is no fact to it at all, none. The guy who brought up the batting averages is just using that stat because it fits this continued false narrative that Abreu is in decline. Steve Stone has said over and over during the telecasts that Abreu has made the conscious decision to sacrifice his batting average to drive in more runs. And you know what? It's working. The most RBIs he has ever had are 107 in a season, he has 68 already and 63 at the all-star break (If I remember correctly). He's basically on pace to get a 120 RBIs. Clearly his best RBI season in his career. Is that the evidence of a guy clearly in decline? No way. I wanted to throw in doubles as another example of his increased power, but too much math comparing the doubles year by year, so I'm gonna use total bases as another example of him having his best year EVER. Before this year, his best year ever for total bases was 343 in 2017. He already has 187 total bases. Let's be conservative and say he only gets 160 more bases the rest of the year, he will still break his all-time record. Does that sort of thing happen to guys in decline? Of course not. And you guys how talk about his lack of range on defense, such an abstract, unprovable thing. Let's talk about how he's scooping up bad throws better than he ever has and throws very well for a 1st baseman, again, Steve Stone mentions that all the time, how good he is throwing to 2nd and 3rd. So he's not declining defensively either. Also, I am so tired of this "He's an average 1st baseman" stuff. He's not. Do average players represent the AL at the All-star game? He was an all-star 1st baseman this year; he was one last year, and he'll be one next year as a White Sox. Another thing that somewhat cracks me up is the irony of people on here suggesting that Abreu should just shut up or play or implying that he has no right to his opinion because he's part of the problem. Jose is saying exactly the same thing that 95% of the people on this board are saying: he's upset with a whole lot of the wtf personal moves by management. Isn't that exactly what we all have been saying pretty much this entire year?1 point

You shouldn't insult posters by saying peanut brain, especially when I am like el rockin and never criticize posters intellect, etc. I guess you got me with those stats. Although .265 and .273 the last two years I'd argue is pretty close to the .293, .290. Just a handful of hits here and there. I happen to think he's a productive player especially considering the crap team he's on. Some of you don't think athletes have emotions. I'd think it'd be difficult to produce when you generally have no protection in the lineup (I love Eloy) and have such a losing mentality. I think he's productive no matter what, but especially for a team in its tank years. But at the risk of greg-haters saying I don't read posts I will acknowledge your point and say you have a point here as expressed by the traditional stats you listed.1 point

Maybe Jose is tired of the non-stop losing. Maybe is tired of following an incompetent and bunt happy manager. Maybe he is tired of Rick Hahn using a bunch of big words to say nothing at all at every press conference. Maybe he is tired of the tanking.1 point
-
This seems incredibly unlikely to be out of context. It is four consecutive sentences.1 point

Hahn is a good diplomat. He'll find a way to say "tough shit, Jose".1 point

And he would be correct. Rick Hahn has done a piss poor job of even getting fillers on this team that can hold the fort.1 point

Well of course they don't like it. I am sure Jose would prefer to have his fellow Cuban up playing games with him. But Jose is making $16M this season to play a game. He should probably just keep his mouth shut*. *I didn't hear the quote directly, and its entirely possible that things were lost in translation / taken out of context, and Jose didn't really mean what some are making it out to be.1 point

I mean, all you keep repeating is pretty much everything will go wrong next year. It's tiring. they will be attempting to compete next season, not punting for a higher draft pick again. Whether they are successful will depend a large amount on their developed players like Anderson moncada Robert Kopech Cease Giolito etc. if their plan was to actually stretch this to 2023 like you keep saying, then the rebuild is a massive failure1 point
-
All I am trying to say is a few weeks ago when we were beating up on Berrios, no one was talking this way. Now we hit a slump against a team we have dominated and we are a trash team.1 point
-
They might not compete, but it won't and absolutely should not be for a lack of trying. Punting another year of controllable assets to get like the number 8 pick at best is the absolute dumbest thing they could do.1 point

The Sox are 10 months away from having one of the best young cores in baseball that runs between 7 and 10 guys deep, all pre-arb or on long extensions. Doubt the FO all you want, but 6 games in June doesn’t change the fact that they’re in the best long term position they’ve ever been, and that that position is real close to being bearing fruit.1 point
-
Cooper, McEwing, Boston, and Steverson were coaches on the Sox’ staff in the earlier part of this decade when the owner and his FO were in “go for it” mode. Those teams, under these very coaches, played so poorly and lost so many games that it forced the organization into a multi-year rebuild. But despite their massive on-field failures on teams that were supposedly designed to win, each of these guys was allowed to retain their jobs during the rebuild, presiding over all of the losing during this time like they did all of those years prior to the rebuild. Bottom line - Jerry Reinsdorf’s loyalty program remains in as strong, working order as ever, and its very unlikely any of these guys are going anywhere anytime soon, unless they decide to leave on their own (e.g., retiring). That’s just how things roll over at 35th & Shields.1 point
-
When you have 25 guys to work with... the law of averages would have a couple of them improve if your only contribution is saying good morning to them. Although I would agree Steverson hasn't been given all stars...isn't improvement expected in every players approach. I'm not the worlds best golfer but I wouldn't keep paying the golf pro for lessons if I didn't start playing a little better.1 point

Pitching has been an embarrassment-fire Cooper *** Hitting is pitiful - fire Steverson *** Outfielders running into each other - fire Boston *** All of this going on under Renteria so you obviously get rid of him. Maybe it's time for a hard ass guy like Joe Girardi. This mentoring nice guy stuff is not showing results on the field where it counts.1 point

And the Twins were coming out of a period where they had six playoff appearances over the course of ten years. Combined with the Mauer contract going bad, they were due for a rough cycle after having successfully (until the playoffs) competed for a full decade. They held on too long, and then it was too late (see SF Giants for another prime example.) But it should be noted they’ve gone through three GM changes and three managerial changes as well during that time frame. All the successful rebuilds witnessed major front office and coaching staff changes, except for ours...even KC changed to Moore and Yost.1 point
-
Those rebuilds didn’t have the Sale, Q and Eaton trades to bring in a prospect haul to start it. Ours shouldn’t take 4-5 years at most IMO1 point
-
Call me a dope, but any team that needs 6 or 7 years to rebuild off a tank job is an embarrassment to the sports world. An all-time embarrassment. Seven years is a long fricking time. One team can win it all. I'd rather do it MY WAY! The 2005 way.1 point
-
you learn this crap in high school. The CF is the Captain out here...the QB...what he says goes and the corner guys need to understand that. It's unbelievable how fundamentally weak this team is. Ricky is a good guy and all...but he needs to be put into some Latin America position and out of the dugout. Team just needs a shakeup like the OP stated...1 point

Everyone needs to take a chill pill. This is only year 3 of a 6-7 year rebuild. The only thing the Sox are playing for in 2019 is another top 5 draft pick.1 point
-
Hard to believe in this organization when they just seem to be "mired in mediocrity" across both the front office, coaching staff and scouting/talent evaluation. There have been some tweaks (like Getz/Hostetler), but nothing has fundamentally changed the SOP of this organization, not with the same group in charge for almost two decades. We STILL underpay coaches/manager and scouts....have a smaller analytics department....the ONLY area where in the Top 10-15% in the major leagues is combined executive salary between KW and Hahn.1 point

He’d have a full offseason to attack whatever weaknesses get exposed instead of learning on the fly. Nothing’s guaranteed either way but that is where my head is at.1 point
