Glancing over this thread and there's some real nonsense in here. The jury is out on the 2016 and 2017 draft classes for sure but it's still too early to call them definitely bad. The White Sox employed a draft strategy heavily reliant on college talent to fill the system from the bottom up. It's very fair to question that strategy. They might still have 5-6 big leaguers from that draft though (Collins, Burdi, Hansen, Lambert, Flores, Hamilton). 2017 provided Burger, Sheets, Gonzalez, Johnson, McClure etc. I think the last two drafts have been very good. Nick Hostetler didn't get fired. They didn't promote him because they don't want him doing amateur scouting anymore. They've actually decided that he's more useful on the pro side of things at this juncture. This lets him focus on pro scouting and the title allows them to transition without actually firing anyone else. They didn't let Nick Hostetler oversee the two most important drafts of this rebuild only to immediately fire him afterwards. Thats crazy talk. I also think Hostetler will be fine finally having an off-season and letting someone else do the Director of Scouting job. The White Sox have issues on the pro scouting side which have been prevalent for yers. This is an attempt to remedy some of that. I think Nathan Durst would be the best internal choice to replace Hostetler but any of the names would be fine. This is a pretty significant move in my opinion and a step in the right direction for an organization entering a new phase.6 points

The workaround is to stop subjecting yourself to our starting lineups. Ryan Goins is hitting fifth.4 points

It is amazing Lopez is now suddenly worth something when he needed to be DFA'd only a couple of weeks ago, even though I still think he has options left.3 points

If nothing else Madrigal will have someone to keep him company at the amusement park when the rest of the team goes on a roller coaster.3 points

Would be a pretty good replacement for Luery if we are able to get anything for him3 points

Not complaining about anything, smartass. Just picking up on a point a more knowledgeable poster than yourself made about the experience of the fan base back in the '90s and providing some additional historical perspective to it. Ironically, it's too bad you were in too much of a hurry to complain yourself to actually pick up on that. As for the flute lessons and bird watching comment (neither of which has to do with White Sox baseball so not quite sure why you took the time to mention it), seems like you should cling onto your day job as tightly as you can and not put all of your eggs into the basket of being Mr. Funny Guy. No future there for you.3 points

It's still trading 4.5 years of a high ceiling SP for 2.5 years of a talented but replacement level RF. Sure, Mazara is also high ceiling, but he has had far more opportunities to prove himself than Lopez. Simply due to the years of control, I wouldn't want to pull the trigger on that deal but I can at least understand why some would.3 points

You can be excited about and not trust what rothe FO will do in the off season, in the off season. Why complain now when the off season isn't happening. Enjoy the good players and progress now, complain when they dont do what you want them to do in the off season. The preemptive b****ing about the future is pointless and makes many on here just seem to bear a grudge and not be able to enjoy anything to do with the team.3 points

Why do you get so mad at individual posters? Let him rant. It's sports not life and death. Who gives a bleep what people think?2 points

Well considering you specialize in inverse logic I would say we should get him.2 points

Going from a 2.22 ERA seven starts ago (June 19th) to mid 3’s is more than just a couple of bad starts.2 points

Again, stay on topic, if you can. The topic was the Sox fans’ experience in the ‘90s, which was impacted adversely by both the original construct of the ballpark when it was first built, and what happened in ‘94 with the strike and Reinsdorf’s involvement therein. Both are very legitimate points to make when talking about the White Sox during the ‘90s. If you can’t handle that discussion, then mind your own business, stay out of it, let those who want to discuss it discuss it, and keep your snarky and unwelcome comments to yourself.2 points

Not giving up by any means, but I don’t think he’s a TOR pitcher due to his inability to go long in games. I also don’t trust Cooper to bring the best out of him.2 points

I noticed Kaleb Roper's line in Great Falls tonight (retired all 12 batters he faced with 7 Ks) and thought to myself "Please don't be 23. Please don't be 23. Please don't be 23." I click on his profile. He's 23☹️2 points

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to thank you guys for commenting about this. This morning I wrote about Bailey's season, and this discussion led me to the realization that Bailey's OBP is literally the best all-time in the Dominican Summer League. https://soxon35th.com/white-sox-prospect-benyamin-bailey-has-the-highest-on-base-percentage-in-dominican-summer-league-history/1 point

Maybe the only reason Hawk agreed to retire was if the FO went out and got Mazara. That’s the only way this makes sense.1 point

Two guys to do one job is pretty normal for white Sox though, so I can see where it didn’t raise flags.1 point

Not only is it a buy low situation, but he also is only controlled through 2021. Most of the names from our MLB roster being floated, including Lopez, have more trade value alone than Mazara does.1 point

I mean yeah, Yolmer is shit and I agree. But what do you expect them to do? It's their job to take up time and promote players. Would you prefer "Reading with Reed" or "Going to Church with McCann"?1 point

People are going to project their feelings all over this. So, I can't read anything into the reactions. You see these words through the lens you choose to. I think Stone is simply referring to the knee-jerk reactionary behavior of every fan-base. We start to show signs of growth and everyone is excited for the future. We come out looking bad in the 2nd half and suddenly much of the same fan-base sounds like they're about to hang themselves. You can't just keep doing 180's with every little turn of the tide. There has to be some perspective towards the larger picture and nothing has really changed in that regard. We're in the same spot we were before the break towards 2020 and beyond. This is year #3 of a complete strip down, overhaul and rebuild. Expecting more than what we've gotten this year is rather silly. If this is who we are next year, sure... I'll join the pitchfork carrying crew. But until then... we have to take our lumps and watch some growing pains. It's apart of it.1 point

Seeing where these guys were drafted and the fact that most of them made the big leagues, that is pretty good.1 point

62nd out of 66 in terms of fWAR for qualified outfielders. 1.5 cumulative career fWAR. This would be settling for mediocrity.1 point

Looks like the Sox are finally bringing @WBWSF on board. If I was Rick Hahn, I wouldn't feel so confident about my job security anymore.1 point

Lol...same here! Your move Jack!1 point

You know this how? Did Daddy tell you about to good old days of no strikeouts and slappy hitters. I am sure it has a lot to do with the fact that they werent seeing Nolan Ryan's velocity more than once a month and seeing guys throwing 98 to 100 from the 6th inning on.1 point

Yeah, he has a 172! wRC+ at AA - he's 72% better than average and people are being critical. I honestly can't believe it.1 point

One guy has already reached the big leagues as a #10 pick and the other two had bad injuries. Burdi was a reach as a reliever sure.. Your guys expectations for the 14th pick in the draft are absurd. Anything after 5 is a complete crap shoot. Madrigal has the best k-bb rate in minor league baseball by 2 times! He is two times better than the next best. That's unreal. Hes also been a gold glove caliber 2nd baseman. Ripping hostetler for drafting madrigal is a laughably bad take.1 point

NO to Sox getting Mike Trout. The end goal is to win postseason games and his lifetime average in the playoffs is .083.1 point
-
Nope, Abreu was not included. $50M is probably a tad high - perhaps closer to $45M if they non-tender Yolmer, but its in the ballpark. Point is, average MLB payroll is $135M. Sox could add Cole ($30M AAV), Grandal ($20M), Wood (8-10M AAV), Abreu ($8-10M AAV), and 2 relievers ($15M AAV) and still have a below average payroll. While obviously I'd love to see that happen, it won't. But the point is, at some point the Sox are going to add some serious payroll. My hope is that they do it by adding a few elite players, rather several over the hill meh veterans as they have done in the past. I am hopeful that they'll change their ways with a legit 5-7 year contention window ahead, but I understand those that say "I'll believe it when I see it".1 point
