  1. I've noticed that some younger people engage in attack & name calling tactics when their positions are questioned.?

  3. Lol...it’s like the moment OneDog gets the ban-hammer you step up your irrational hate game to fill his place. Marco Gonzalez is currently 29th in fWAR amongst qualified starters (one spot behind your beloved Bumgarner). Calling him a “weak #5 starter” is one of the worst takes I have ever seen on this site in years.

  4. Buying low on a high upside, controllable asset is exactly what a rebuilding team than plans on competing next year should be doing. A move like just depends on the price and more likely than not it won’t be a price we like. But in the off-chance they really like a guy like Rutherford then by all means let’s be part of the conversation.

  5. Anything can make sense depending on the price. That being said, I don’t envision the price being attractive here.

  6. Guys having the wheels come off for an inning is typical of a young pitcher. Guys who rebound and don't let it derail their whole outing is the sign of a very good young pitcher.

  7. You can’t trade him just to trade someone. You have to acquire someone who will help you actually win. Not the Ryan Cordells, and Charlie Tilsons and Casey Gillespies of the world. It’s fine going after those types when trading guys that won’t be around next year is the cost. But the Sox are going to need a lot of relievers next year if they hope to not suck, and Coloma fits the bill. The price has to be high.

  8. Javier Vazquez ended his career with 165 wins and 45 WAR. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

  9. Not over Closers on the block: Will Smith, Kirby Yates, Ken Giles, Alex Colome, Shane Greene, Ian Kennedy, Mychal Givens, Sergio Romo Could be shopped: Felipe Vazquez, Edwin Diaz, Raisel Iglesias, Hansel Robles, Greg Holland, Wade Davis, Roenis Elias, Chris Martin/Jose Leclerc

  10. He has had a tendency to have a bad inning early. He does seem to bounce back. All part of the learning curve. That's why I'm glad he's up now...getting his major league intro when results don't matter.

  11. I think you're correct on the part about the "defenders." I've read a lot of posts and even read some mainstream newspaper stories (Rick Morrissey had one) talking about the absolute need for the Sox to get it right this off season or they are going to lose the fan base regarding the rebuild. And I think that would be fair, if after three years going into number four, they can't keep the key pieces healthy and keep trotting out guys like Covey, Tilson, Engle, Sanchez and their ilk the fan base is going to be in open revolt even the most patient of them.

  12. Just pointing out that he's had issues in this regard. Maybe he learns and gets through this in time, maybe he turns into another Javier Vasquez...we'll see.

  13. That's not a bad suggestion. A lot of anger here. Maybe we should take it on Stone. The thread's title suggest Sox fans need a dose of reality. I think the White Sox organization needs a dose of reality. Even the biggest defenders of the rebuild will be angry if things keep going like they are now. Now, go out and sign someone this offseason.

  14. It’s like the movie The Matrix. If you don’t know any better, it’s an amazing dream. In his world, Eloy and probably Abreu are both better than Moncada. Greg will never take the red pill.

  18. Tomorrow is another game and another chance for a putrid Sox effort and probable loss. (I know that's what you really meant to say) As the old song said, "and the beat(ings) goes on..."

  19. And there’s a pretty high likelihood that Machado, Tatis Jr. and his father and their agent in common decided quite early to go with the Padres and were just waiting to see if the Sox would significantly outbid it in the end...Padres did a great job keeping that early interest out of the media as Hahn set the market for a couple of months.

  20. I bet we go dumpster diving for a pitcher coming off injury or on a down year and hope to get lightning in a bottle. We are not going all in on a pitcher.
    1 point
  21. Except Machado was a position player which are usually much less prone to injury than a starting pitcher. I bet the Sox have a much higher risk rating on a long-term contract for a starting pitcher at age 28/29 at around $175 to $200 million than they did on Machado at age 26 at $300+ million.

  22. I have zero faith that we will get any FA unless its a secondary FA.

  23. It blows my mind people think the Sox will get Cole.
    1 point
  24. The only way this happens is if the owner changes. If you cant outbid the San Diego Padres for Manny you wont outbid anyone for anything. the only hope they have is to jump on a secondary FA while the primary FAs are being courted by the big boys. They showed their true colors. They are who they are.

  25. Look, Reinsdorf and/or Hahn/KW may very well fuck things up this offseason, but we should have more money to spend than any other team. There is no legitimate excuse for failing to land what we need. And the fanbase should fucking riot if it doesn’t get done. Potty training time was the Machado pursuit last offseason, now they need to get serious and drop that heat square in the bowl. Misses are no longer acceptable.

  26. Yep. The Sox think they can sign FA's at their price and then are left standing there with their schvonce in their hands. No top free agent is going to sign a deal with incentive-based garbage over guaranteed money. The Sox are ridiculous.

  27. I said it back in April that the Twins, not the Indians, are the Sox’ biggest competition within the division for the first part of their contention window (what else is new). The good news is that I think the Twins are peaking over the next couple years and the Sox are the likely division favorite starting in 2021.
    1 point
  28. Well when the twins offer real money and we offer deferred Reinsdorf bucks that have a magical unknown value if you wait for it. Most people see through that scam and will pick the other team.
    1 point
  29. That’s fine...zero excuse we can’t outspend the Twins for pitching.

  30. I love the Whitesox to a fault but something you and most of the people on this site do not understand no one wants to come here, they are the Kmart of Baseball organizations, no one but us cares about them.

  31. Problem is it seems Twins are going to go after elite pitching also....I don’t think they’re going away for the next few years.

  32. Add Grandal and trade for a stopgap RF. The rest of our resources go toward pitching.

  33. He needs to be gone. Bunting for one run and getting none in the first inning against a team with a great offense. He's a fucking moron.

  34. Their lineup is clearly overachieving though, but the gap is no doubt significant at the moment.

  35. Oh my god! I can't believe the FO isn't calling up Cease when he's just sitting there in the minors and our starting pitching is so bad! He couldn't possibly be this bad! Backup quarterback fallacy Backup quarterback fallacy Backup quarterback fallacy What more could he possibly have to learn down there! Gee... I don't know. Maybe how to pitch, for starters. But hey... who ever said command was important

  39. How does a starting pitcher not have command of their fastball? This is like the #1 thing you need as a starter.

  40. I’m still confused why they called him up when he was struggling to get out of the first innings of AAA games.

  43. 7 hits, 2 walks, 4 homers, for 7 earned runs in 5 innings? That's just bad.

  44. It's still trading 4.5 years of a high ceiling SP for 2.5 years of a talented but replacement level RF. Sure, Mazara is also high ceiling, but he has had far more opportunities to prove himself than Lopez. Simply due to the years of control, I wouldn't want to pull the trigger on that deal but I can at least understand why some would.
