  1. I don't give two fucks about the cubs, or half the shit you ramble on and on and on about on a White Sox message board that doesn't have a damn thing to do with the topic.

  2. I feel like there are more people who post here frequently that are hoping for this organization to fail than there are people who generally want them to take the next step. Kind of sad.

  3. When Moncada comes back they should move Goins to 2nd and move Yolmer to the bench role.

  4. I think we've learned that there is no prospect the Sox can't ruin. They could have ruined Mike Trout for all we know.

  6. 2021 at the earliest. Sure Hahn can "go for it" next year and we'll be back to 2015.

  7. This seems like a pointless thread to bash Reinsdorf. Please tell me how it isn't.

  8. Why wouldn’t they, it’s not like Sox are good. They’re missing far and away their best player.

  9. I see no reason why this team can’t compete in 2020 IF (and perhaps a big IF), they add at least one front end SP, a RF, another solid bat to either play 1B/C/DH and a veteran pensman or two. Most will say that is a lot to ask, but I am looking at a team with a sub $50M payroll next season and I think that figure will be at a minimum doubled come Opening Day.

  10. “We were happy to be at the table with Gerrit and we made what we thought was a competitive offer, with a chance to earn more money than the guaranteed offers others teams made, but ultimately we fell short of our plan. We will continue to be aggressive with our targets in free agency and the trade market, as well as looking to lock up our own core long-term. The money will be spent.”

  11. I really hope they go after Grandal as well on a 2 year deal and just rotate him from C/1B/DH. He's probably my #2 want after Cole, I just don't think the Sox will go after him because McCann/Collins.

  12. None of this has any thing to do with Hahn saying he expects to be more aggressive this offseason, the topic of this discussion. Hence, my comment of what it is supposed to sum up?

  15. what a disgusting pos how do you even bring that into the dms? With the fucking Andersons of all people. I tell you one thing Swarzak better tell his wife to STFU but you know he probably agrees with her neanderthal takes. And good on Giolito for calling them out.

  23. He looks nothing like he did in the minors. I still wonder if he will have to change his stance. It’s been disappointing as he was touted as being Sox-proof

  28. I can't wait for his MLB debut and the Chuck Garfien pregame taking 20 minutes to discuss how to accurately pronounce Robert.

  29. Why exactly would that be described as likely, especially in terms of being a starting pitcher?

  31. There was a really good article about Steiver and the pitching coach Matt Zaleski. He said that he really worked with Cease to throw high 4 seamers and to increase his spin rate so it stays there. He is working with Steiver on the same thing and this is why he is having more success. My concern is that Cease got away with that in the minors but at the MLB level the hitters aren't chasing it as often and now he needs to learn to pitch down in the zone again.

  34. I'm not even sure it has to be a front end starter, you just need a bunch of insulation from having to turn to someone like Covey and Detwiler. Certainly would be preferable though.

  35. How does it tell us that? All I see from this random sidebar is these three guys are proof that young players can get better and injured guys can get healthy in a blink of the eye. So next year, we could see Eloy & Cease take massive leaps forward and Kopech be an impact player right out of the gate. And in terms of roster construction, we should have nine former top 50 overall prospects on our roster by mid April next year, all of whom will be 26 years of age or younger. Six of these guys were top 10 or 20 prospects to boot. Those guys represent the vast majority of our future core. Will we have to supplement via trade and free agency? Of course we will, but when you’re sitting on ~$45M in payroll commitments (most of which expire after the 2020 season), you should be able to plug a lot of holes in one offseason. A competent GM would be able to take the sum of our parts and create a contender for 2020 in a really weak division. I have zero doubts that Hahn will be aggressive this offseason, but whether he adds the right pieces remains to be seen.

  39. Sure it does, it tells us exactly how far that we still have to go to construct a competitive roster for 2020. All one has to do is look at these statistics from playoff teams over the past seasons...and compare them with where we stand. It's not just a matter of aggressiveness in Free Agency, it's also a matter of working harder than our coaching staff has ever worked before to bring out the best in Moncada, Anderson and Jimenez. The organization has to figure out how to keep everyone on the field as well. Real self-reflection and appropriate changes in the coaching staff. Right now, nothing else matters. We could make the best set of moves in Hahn's career and still not be a playoff team unless we fix internal/endemic problems first.

  40. Negative=realistic I would love to believe that Eloy Jimenez is going to have Rusty Kuntz as his personal outfield coach next season, start throwing the ball in on throws from the outfield at about 20+ MPH faster and evolve into a 4+ player, but I haven't seen any evidence of that. Tonight, he loped into the corner for a ball he should have been more aggressive with, wasn't aware of the fact that the runner was one of the fastest in baseball (Jacoby Jones)...we need more focus and concentration out of all our younger core players if they're going to take that next step in 2020 and beyond. You simply can't give up triples on ground balls hit down the LF line. As long as we continue to use fWAR as our MAIN measurement of a team's growth, then Eloy will always be dinged and Tim Anderson will too for his lack of walks and inconsistent/erratic defensive play. I don't know what else can be said. Abreu's a totally different issue, he is what he is, and that's not going to change dramatically at age 31-33.

  41. I really don’t get the appeal of batting Robert leadoff. Sure, he’s fast, but he’s also powerful. What’s more beneficial? A) Him leading off, stealing bags to get into scoring position, so that he can score on a single by our guys who should be hitting homeruns anyway, and at the same time hitting a crap ton of homeruns himself but often with few if any runners on base... or B) Him hitting third or fourth, constantly clobbering two or three run bombs because he’s hitting behind our OBP kings, and then, when he does merely single, he can steal and be in scoring position for our relatively weaker lower of the order hitters who are more likely to hit singles? B makes so much more sense to me. To the extent that I will furiously protest A, and you guys know how annoying that can be.

  43. Bad MiLB gamethread! 5 pages should mean Robert went 4-5 with 3 XBH, Madrgial was 4-4 in his first game in AAA and Stiever went 7 scoreless with 11Ks. Keep the constant whining in PHT. Don't pollute the national parks!!!
