  1. Keep this crap out of minor league threads

  2. The only do-over I want is the millions of hours I spent on the message board from December through February. Good lord, that was unhealthy.

  3. I honestly have no idea what Hahn is thinking. We’re actually wasting DH at-bats on guys with zero future with the organization. If it’s me, I’d releasing Castillo ASAP and calling up both Collins & Mercedes and letting them spit DH & C duties with McCann. I’m also finding a way to get Mendick in the infield mix. I know that Yolmer is a tremendous clubhouse guy and won’t be released mid-season, but he can definitely ride some pine for the next month and a half.

  4. Here we go. The Sox 1st round pick will be protected. The following is from last year, but the Sox will fall in the same category this winter as well. They lose a 2nd if they sign a player who had a QO extended to them. If they sign 2 players that had QO's extended to them, it's a 2nd and a 3rd that they lose. Either way they keep their first round pick. https://www.mlb.com/news/draft-picks-for-2018-19-qualifying-offers-c300535882 Penalties for signing players who reject QOs Any team that signs a player who has rejected a qualifying offer is subject to the loss of one or more Draft picks. However, a team's highest first-round pick is exempt from forfeiture, which is a big change that went into effect with the new CBA. Three tiers of Draft-pick forfeiture -- based on the financial status of the signing team -- are in place to serve as a penalty for signing a player who rejected a qualifying offer: • A team that exceeded the luxury tax in the preceding season will lose its second- and fifth-highest selections in the following year's Draft, as well as $1 million from its international bonus pool for the upcoming signing period. If such a team signs multiple qualifying-offer free agents, it will forfeit its third- and sixth-highest remaining picks as well. Teams that are in this group this offseason: Nationals, Red Sox • A team that receives revenue-sharing money will lose its third-highest selection in the following year's Draft. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its fourth-highest remaining pick. Teams in this group: A's, Braves, Brewers, D-backs, Indians, Mariners, Marlins, Orioles, Padres, Pirates, Rays, Reds, Rockies, Royals, Tigers and Twins. • A team that neither exceeded the luxury-tax threshold in the preceding season nor receives revenue sharing will lose its second-highest selection in the following year's Draft, as well as $500,000 from its international bonus pool for the upcoming signing period. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its third-highest remaining pick and an additional $500,000. Teams in this group: Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Mets, Phillies, Rangers, White Sox and Yankees.

  5. Free Yermin! We have a spot open on the 40 man. Why not?!??

  6. He has been inconsistent and oft-injured. Can believe in raw talent over an odorizzi but both are lemon candidates

  8. I'd like them to acquire a bat that is better than Leury. But if the Sox blow their wad on SP, and that means Leury is our starting RF, then I can live with that.

  9. Yeah, so the question posted was, a theoretical exercise....if you could go back in time with the sack of $320 million would you still have signed Machado or Harper. Given the question I said there was a third option which is allocating those resources to someone else and I gave ideas. The great thing about Soxtalk is...no matter what the conversation, no matter where you go on the site...there's always some poster saying HAHN SUCKS! REINSDORF SUCKS! THE TEAM SUCKS! THE PAST IS THE FUTURE! Thank you for your enlightening thoughts.

  10. You've completely created this narrative in your own head.

  11. It might be the new rage but you won't be winning any WS rings. Power with speed, pitching and defense wins the big prize.

  12. Leury is a good fall back if we can't find that right fielder, but I too would prefer him as super-sub. Between injuries and normal days off I think he is liable to get 4 or 5 games per week. Someone always is in need of a few days off. His switch hit tool always helps when balancing the lineup.

  13. Rutherford is far from a sure thing after this season...most of those projecting his stats would peg him as a 4th/5th outfielder type along the lines of a Ryan Sweeney that a regular everyday player. The fact that he doesn't put up huge power numbers and he's not an elite defender doesn't help his cause. In fact, Walker and Adolfo are both likely viewed (at least internally) as the more likely solutions, although both are far from can't miss prospects at this point.

  15. That’s great but do you trust Strasburg to stay healthy or Bumgarner’s stuff to not decline further? A young team like the Sox should be looking to stay young, not get older. Hence, why Machado and Harper would have been great signings. I’d rather have Cole. Younger and still has his stuff.

  16. The Sox have enough money for one of Machado and Harper last year and both Strasburg and Bumgarner this year. But don’t expect any of them. ?

  17. Yeah I was just going to say that I have no idea what Navarro's knuckleball mph has to do with Eloy's arm strength

  18. I agree with you on this one. Yeah, 8 would be nicer than 12. But I'm not going to get hung up on it. And I certainly dont want it if it means Cease is getting bombed the rest of the year and other guys important to the rebuild struggle.

  19. Off our old friend Dioner Navarro. 72 MPH knuckleball he titanic'd out.

  20. Honestly, I hate being that guy, but we really needed a loss as we’re getting dangerously close to the 11th pick.

  24. I’m sure Goins would happily take on that extra responsibility in exchange for a major league role.

  25. That might of been an inside the park home run if Eloy wasn't admiring it for so long after the swing.

  26. I agree completely. It’ll take a lot of pressure off of Collins. RF and SP are enough to worry about

  27. Solid first inning, 3 up/down w/ one K. Throwing lots of hooks, a couple were hammers. Fastball/curve showing right now, no changes so far. Like the flow early w/ DC.

  28. I think Rendon fits in to the same category as Grandal. With McCann's August so far, unless he has a total collapse down the stretch, I think Hahn will not spend a huge amount on Grandal. Rendon is a stud offensively, but Hahn will go w Moncada and Madrigal. Unless you foresee someone moving to right, I don't see big bucks going to Rendon. I think Hahn will go for production from RF and will spend big bucks or trade to get that player. Hopefully as CWS said, a LH bat.

  29. This is the type of shit posting that adds absolute zero value to the board and simply makes you come off as a whiny little b****.

  30. He has one year of control left and therefore makes no sense for a rebuilding team.

  31. What free agents this offseason present the high likelihood opportunity of maintaining a 3.5 WAR pace with higher upside through the next 5 years of their career?
    1 point
  32. This is what I am on board with. Or Leury playing CF with Mendick at 2B until Robert and Madrigal are up.
    1 point
  33. If it's starting at 2B for a few weeks until Madrigal gets called up, sure I'd be ok with it. As a starting OF, that would speak to the failure to acquire a RF in the off-season, which I wouldn't be ok with.

  34. I didn’t realize a guy who scores 100+ runs, hits 30+ doubles, steals 20+ bases, and plays solid defense, cant be considered worthy of starting player status.
    1 point
  35. If Leury is starting in the outfield next season, the Sox failed the offseason. They need a RF and there are options available. Leury is a good bench player.
    1 point
  36. If that's the case, this rebuild is doomed. The goal is to have as many of these guys performing at as high of a level as possible simultaneously. That should be the goal now. Playing silly service time games with Robert and Madrigal is counterproductive. The only clock that matters at this point is the one on Giolito, Moncada and Lopez. The goal should be maximizing that clock.

  37. Yes the Sox should of given him 300 mil. Hell, if they weren't so cheap all last winter and obsessed with not bidding against themselves, they might of nabbed him at 270 or 280 before the Padres entered the fray.

  38. Take a closer look then because you’ve missed several terrific posts by that poster, all of which are superior to the continuous and nonsensical garbage posts about Abreu you continue on with here.

  39. The guy has all kinds of power . I did say upside, doesn't take much to go from 25 to 40 if you find your swing. Look at Yelich. I swear some of you guys couldn't find your nose in the dark. I don't even understand why this needs explaining.

  40. Melton hurt his back falling off a ladde.

  41. Harper’s all the way up to a 3 fWAR season. If you consider marketing, national relevance and what we’ve actually gotten out of RF, it would have been the right move regardless of it being nowhere close to his legendary 9.3 season in 2015.

  42. Lol...my perceived high ground? I’ve made plenty of dumb claims on this site, but I do try avoid speaking with absolute certainty and I definitely try learning from my mistakes. Don’t catch feelings because I’m saying history may be repeating itself here. And yes, I did in fact move to Nashville, but never planned on leaving this board (maybe my initial post on the subject misstated my intentions). Being away from Chicago makes this board an even bigger necessity in my life.

  43. Cute, but just remember - this pic is EXACTLY what’s going through people’s minds every time they read one of your silly Abreu rants.

  44. Lol I'm pretty sure he did move...he can still access this site from Nashville. Lol

  45. You really need to up your game around here if you even remotely thought this pic was either the appropriate and/or funny response to the poster’s well-described view on the importance of leadership. This dopey pic didn’t make a shred of sense as a response to that.

  46. I do. That is true. Personally if you look at Jose's 125 hits, 24 homers and 83 RBIs in 114 games, he has added some nice moments to a horrible season IMO. At least for me.

  47. Early disclaimer...if you don’t care about the draft, that’s fine....but don’t ruin this thread. Thanks
