I do agree there should be a mix, but I have no idea what batting a guy with a .322 slugging pct clean up does for a team in a positive way.It is time to take one of Ricky’s toys away and cut bait with Jon Jay. They could have saved more money and actually spent the $ 1 million internationally had they just done the obvious and realized Jon Jay would probably not make it through the season on the roster based on merit. The Sox love RR. He is going nowhere, so hopefully he will learn from mistakes. There actually are several teams where the manager doesn’t make ou the line up.

Abreu is 4th in the sport in hard hit balls and is 15th in average exit velocity (minimum 200 BBE). I'm not sure where the people saying his batted ball stats suck are getting that from. If it's purely about pull% or something then maybe, but if he were on any other team, someone with the two stats I mentioned would be sought after by the board as a short-term 1B/DH.

This entire front office is a disgrace tbh. Why are guys like Skole, Castillo, Reed, Jay, and to an extent Goins even getting AB's. It is common fucking knowledge these guys aren't in the plans when there are guys younger doing better things in AAA. I can be okay with Collins since for whatever reason he is being blocked by Castillo and whatever garbage is at DH so he can get more ABs. Fine. But where is Yermin and Mendick. You do not know what they are at the MLB level. Goins has been professional so I can't knock him and maybe he gets Yolmers spot next year as an IF utility guy. Then you have Fulmer who is out of options being put aside for the likes of Josh Osich, Herrera, and others when you still don't know what he will be really. This was allegedly the last year before we open the window and we still have a ton of unknowns that could be factors next year. Yermin has RAKED at every level. That could be a cheap, controlable DH option next year and we haven't got a sniff of him. Bringing some of these guys up in September is way too small of a sample size to rely on. It's pathetic.

This sounds pretty alarming. Some balance isn't bad but it sounds like he is not really willing to learn. Kyle boddy said many managers and coaches delete emails by the analytics crew without reading it and then joke about this. It is all about what the front office tolerates. I think the sox are still in a "analytics is optional" stage. They are getting more of those progressive guys but the coaches and managers still can choose themselves how and if they want to use it. Houston on the other hand really enforced this and fired all the old school guys. Sox aren't there yet, they have smart analysts but it probably isn't enforced to use this top to bottom. Enforcing this is no easy job. Luhnow is hated in the industry and the easier way is to provide the analytics but make the usage optional in the hope that over time the employees learn to love this by themselves. Not as efficient though, albeit easier for organisational harmony and peace.

For some of the other quotes you could say that he's making a legitimate argument for balance in decision making and understanding where your players are on any given day, but this is the key one telling you the point he wants to make. Stats people "I don't give a bleep what you think so stop questioning me I deserve this and your opinion doesn't matter". He calls for balance, but note which side he wants to swear at.

This makes a lot of sense at least, now we know a big reason why he is a terrible manager

On any given day, someone by virtue of chance will have a decent/good day. Lately, I am seeing the negative spill over to the minors. Could we limit the plain "he sux" comments or put them in a thread about that player? I have no problem with someone wanting to discuss a players poor performance but many of these players most of us have never seen. Many are playing for their careers as roster decisions loom. They are doing all they can in often shitty circumstances. Sorry and I know I will get slammed but everybody have a great day.

A couple more thoughts. I've lived in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Houston markets, and I cannot ever remember a franchise that has gone after their own fans nearly as often as this one. AJ Hinch gets mad when another team throws at his players, our manager swears when people dare question him. I think this tells us a lot about how these guys really are indoors - they really are surrounded by yes men. They go around all day with no one willing to step out of line, to propose anything new, or even to suggest that doing things differently might produce different results. They are so used to it that the only way any criticism leaks through - in the occasional press availability - they blow up at them over and over. Williams, Stone, Renteria, and I'm sure Cooper more than once although we've stopped paying attention to those, and that's all just this season. Rick Renteria has a .423 career winning mark, he is 258-352 as a big league manager. But he's absolutely angry at the concept that he might ever incorporate anything new into his managing style. His GM doesn't push him on that, he doesn't work with him on that, he's just in charge and he's absolutely earned it? That's absolutely not how it works in Houston. If management has something they want to try, they work with Hinch on it, and if Hinch has a problem with it, things stay behind closed doors. When people question AJ Hinch, he explains his thinking, admits sometimes things go wrong, and here's what we'll do about it if needed. It's the same setup as the rest of the franchise - how dare you question us, we are owed your allegiance and your money. Everyone around us has told us we're doing a great job, just you angry folks in the press.

He has to find a couple of other free agents to woo Cole. Then failing to sign Cole, Ricky will give plenty of playing time to those free agents, and then if one of them is an interstate hitter, he will bat 4th. To cement that Collins, Robert, Madrigal, will be at Charlotte because there it no place for them.

Execute your pitches better. Have a better plan of attack. You don't need to knock people on their ass like its 1960 to effectively pitch.

Cole to the Sox probably makes more sense than any other potential move I can imagine. They have the money and desperately need to improve their rotation. But many of us don’t expect it to happen. It’s disappointing but it is what it is.

It's not analytics . It's the way baseball has been played for years except for now you can't throw inside because batters get mad about it. But fuck the hitters the pitchers have to do what's necessary to take control of the plate.

This is the first Sox forum I have posted on - I guess reddit as well a few times. Censorship destroys forums. I'm a big believer in, if it's not personal information or racist/bigoted/threatening, then it's fine. Over censoring pushes people away.

I didn’t realize a guy who scores 100+ runs, hits 30+ doubles, steals 20+ bases, and plays solid defense, cant be considered worthy of starting player status.
