  1. At the end of last year he had improved in many of the areas. Yesterday no so much.

  2. Lol...my stance is pretty clear. I like the tools but acknowledge he has limited experience and will need time. So far I’ve been disappointed, but unlike you I’m not looking for the medal from being the first one time write him off. After this season I’ll have a stronger opinion.

  3. Jesus - it was only the first game on the season, NFL opener with no preseason reps. The hot takes are insane. I still remember all the crap Parkman said about Trub early last season and had to eat a big fat crow at the end.

  4. He was, but a good defensive performance can make a really good QB appear as "Same old Mitch". That was solid defensive work by the Packers and the Bears didn't seem to help with their game plan. It was 1/16th of a season. If a guy is hitting .100 after 10 games in baseball you don't declare his season a bust. If a guy is hitting .150 around Memorial day you get concerned and move him to the cleanup spot for the next month. If he's hitting around .150 half way through the season then you release him.

  5. So 26 NFL games across two seasons in two systems including one year with not a single quality WR after a total of 13 college starts tells you everything you need to know about he guy? Like my god this is some stupid fucking logic and I love the fact you actually think a lack of college experience doesn’t matter.

  6. I'm beyond done with the 83 unis so if this replaces them it'd be a welcome change.

  7. @Chicago White Sox Listen, Mitch looked like ass tonight. Yes, it's only one game. This is going to stick with him a long time because its vs GB at home in primetime. He could get better, and Nagy did him no favors. I was pissed because I expected more. That's all. This game feels a lot like the 2007 opener vs. The Chargers. Just a huge, massive disappointment.

  8. Check out how they fared in FA last offseason . Every one of the players has a negative WAR. They make Hahn look almost competent.

  10. Rodgers passed for 70 yards and 0 TDS in the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarter combined. I love cherry picking stats to write your narrative.

  11. Besides Amos, those are 5 top 40 picks in that secondary. It's really talented, and we know Amos is good already. The packers secondary has a chance to be the second coming of the LOB. Kevin King and Jaire Alexander are already really good at the very least.

  12. Yup. Like I honestly don’t care if people think Mitch will ultimately bust, but last night proves absolutely nothing.

  13. Ray Ray, I was with you at the start of last year, but I saw progress throughout the 2018 season from MT. Is he good enough yet? No way. But he's still relatively inexperienced. He was always going to take longer. Why you don't understand that, I have no idea. This is a make or break year for him. We should know one way or the other by the 10th game what he is or isn't. If he still struggles to go through his progressions by then, you're right. Heads should roll in that case. It's close to the end, but it's still too early. Rodgers looked like crap most of last night too, so I'm willing to give Trubisky a mulligan for that one. Also, GB's secondary is EXTREMELY talented. Don't underestimate that.

  14. He was, but we don't know if it was just rust or if he sucks. If he's still doing this in week 4-5, then we can declare him a bust. The Packers looked awful and out of sync too, but nobody's calling Rodgers over the hill. Also, everyone is underrating GB's Defense. They're probably really good. As good as the Bears? No. But that looks like a top 12 unit to me. The Bears generally are regarded as having one of the best offensive lines in football and they made them look like chumps.

  16. When did I ever say it should take 3+ years for him to develop? To me, this is his make or break year. Most QBs take their big leap in year two, but most high end draft picks also have at least two full seasons of college starts. Combine that with what was basically a completely wasted rookie season (horrific coaching & lack of weapons) and this is effectively year two for him. I need to see major growth from him this year or else I will be ready to call him a bust too.

  17. This is some of the dumbest logic I have ever heard. Him being drafted 2nd overall (not 3rd) has nothing to do with the readiness of his talent, it was about getting us a long-term answer at QB. If your expectation was a guy ready to win right out of the gate, then rip Pace for making a bad pick. I don’t know what to tell you, but Mitch was always going need time to develop. Wasting a year with Fox and no WRs was stupid as fuck. Last year in many ways was his first legit season because of that and he showed some promise at times. He no doubt needs to make major strides this year, but I’m certainly jumping to conclusions over one rusty start where the entire offense looked like shit. If you want to assume he can’t get better because he was the 2nd overall pick two years ago by all means believe that but I’m going to call you out for what I believe to be dumb logic.

  18. It does matter, and that's why he shouldn't have ever been a 1st round prospect, let alone Pace be willing to trade as much as he did to move up one spot to get him. People are pointing the finger at the wrong man. This is 100% on Pace. If Mitch sucks this year it should be Pace's head on a silver platter. I hope George has the balls to whack Pace if this season goes in the shitter. If Mitch sucks, as good as Mack is that trade becomes indefensible. Those two moves were bold, and Pace put his junk on the table with them. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

  19. There are two separate parts to this: 1) Was/Is the rebuild the right decision, and 2) Was/Is this FO the ones to lead it? I think almost 100% of fans, here or otherwise, would agree that the rebuild was the right decision. Many less would agree that Hahn and Co. were the ones to lead it. As I posted last night the rebuild year gets a straight "C". It was the minimum required to show competency. Do better. There are elite teams in baseball with elite FOs. Minimal competency isn't going to get the job done. First exam is Free Agency. They need to ace it.

  20. Don't get me wrong, I despised the pick when it happened for that reason. He is a huge project and as such, was incredibly overdrafted. Trubisky shouldn't have been a 1st round pick. He is the most inexperienced QB to ever be taken top 10. The only one even as close to as inexperienced as Trubisky to be drafted that high was Akili Smith in 1999, and he had 20 games of college experience. We all know how that worked out. Mitch would have been a good pick at 45 where they picked Shaheen. He was an absolutely awful pick in the top 10, and I could at least defend it in the last 5 picks of the 1st round. Watson and Mahomes were higher on my board, though I didn't think much of either of them at the time, I thought they were both defensible 1st rounders, albeit outside the top 10. Mitch is absolutely a 3+ year project and it was indefensible to pick him where they did, let alone give up the draft capital that they did. Blame Pace for the severe overdraft, don't blame Mitch for his inexperience. It isn't making excuses, it's just the reality of the situation. If you want to point fingers, point them at Pace. Trubisky probably shouldn't have been playing last year. This is Pace's problem, not Trubisky's. It isn't his fault he was severely overdrafted. Trubisky is really talented, but the inexperience screws everything up. And there are questions about him not being able to beat a QB that didn't get a NFL camp invite for his first three years at UNC too. I don't have questions about his work ethic or talent, I have questions about his brain. I also admit that the last paragraph is a longshot, but it isn't impossible.

  21. That's pretty reasonable. I agree that Mitch will need more time because of the inexperience. The huge issue is that the Bears are ready to win now and Mitch isn't ready to win yet. There was a metric shit ton of hyperbole from everyone, myself included last night because it was so damn disappointing. Props to you for keeping a level head, but that is really hard to do (for me especially) in-game and immediately post-mortem(on a loss is what I mean here) CWS, we're fans. We don't have to keep a level head 100% of the time. That's not what fans do. In-game is the hardest for me. Some of the shit I say isn't communicated the best, in the moment when I'm incredibly disappointed and pissed. When I said they would be the Jaguars from last year, I meant if they continue to play as poorly as they did last night. Sometimes I miss qualifiers like that, and my posts get misinterpreted because of that. I need to be more careful. I'm not entirely sure that they'll lose next week, but I do think it's going to be a tougher game than most imagined. So can we please cancel the threadban bet? Thank you. Trubisky could be one of those guys who gets run out of town at the place that drafted him and becomes great with his second team later in his career, like Kurt Warner or Rich Gannon.

  22. Yeah those first 12 games with Fox and Loggains sure were valuable My biggest issue with Trubisky right now is his lack of good play in primetime games. Those are the ones the nation sees and those are the ones we rate highest as Bears fans because they're usually against good teams/important games. He's really bad on primetime but really good outside of those games. I think his TD/INT ratio is like 1:2 in primetime but better than 3:1 otherwise
    2 points
  23. I have never argued Trubisky is actually good, I’m just ripping you for drawing sweeping conclusions based on a game where most of the offense was clearly rusty from a lack of preseason reps. But if there is a negative angle to take, there is no doubt you will leach onto it with full force so ultimately none of this is very surprising.

  24. He did look like ass and it was a massive disappointment, I just see no reason to panic yet. I still believe Nagy is an elite offensive coach 95% of the time (he still has his bad moments) and that we have enough weapons to be dangerous even if we don’t see a major leap from Mitch this year. The defense is simply too good to think this team will crash & burn.
    2 points
  25. That's what happens when the coach doesnt play them in the preseason. The first couple of games will be real speed practice and that's exactly what this game showed, for both teams.

  26. Look. They played a bad game. They had no rhythm, had tons of penalties, gave up a bunch of sacks, had dropped passes and literally had minimal field position most of the game. All of those things combined with the fact that they had jumbled play calling and non-existent performances from literally anyone not named Robinson didn't help either (albeit Gabriel made a couple plays and Montgomery looked good...they just didn't use him). Mitch is the QB and he is responsible but every time it looked like he got in a roll, they'd shoot themselves in the foot. It was just a flat out ugly performance with everything going against the Bears offensively (and those things all being self inflicted). Like I said...they looked like a team with a TON of rust. I remember back in 2003, Patriots lost 31-0 to the Bills. Patriots went on to win the superbowl and the Bills ended up winning 6 games that season. Random Nit: I know the announcers and TV ref were adamant, but I did not believe Gabriels offensive pass interference on the 1st and 30 (that eventually became 1st and 40) was OPI. Yes, he touched the Packer...but I don't think it at all impacted the play (the Packer player wasn't getting it and that touch didn't give Gabriel extra leverage to make a catch).

  28. My favorite play was when the same coach that has David Montgomery on 3rd and inches had a 6'4" WR line up as the lone back and then runs him up the middle. When I saw him back there I was like "maybe this is gonna be a RPO" and before I even could finish the thought NOPE THEY ARE REALLY GONNA RUN HIM RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE THE FUCK

  29. Trubisky's game was bad - really disappointing to see him not getting better at making reads, still staring down Robinson, and the inexcusable throw to Amos at the end of the game when it was obvious Robinson never open - but the penalties on offense made it worse than it is. By the time he started to settle down in the second half, the OL was canceling out all the forward progress with penalties (Trubisky was part of this too, two delay of game penalties on the same drive). 1st and 40 is simply not a thing that should happen in a professional football game. The lack of preparation by the entire offense, and Nagy in particular, was inexcusable. All offseason and preseason Nagy raves about David Montgomery, then he gets a few carries in the first half and looks legit, then Nagy just... ignores him the rest of the game, and abandons the run game completely. They were never down by more than a TD at any point and the clock wasn't an issue so there was no reason for him to do that. This was the worst coached game Nagy has had so far.

  30. Trubisky said on interception in end zone he put the ball in a good spot wtf!
    2 points
  31. Obviously, that was hyperbole because he looked so awful. However, I just don’t think Trubisky is any good. Is it okay to disagree with you? He’s a QB who is great at scrambling to avoid contact and running for first downs but he isn’t good at throwing the ball with any consistent accuracy which is not a recipe for success in today’s NFL. He has no awareness as a pocket passer and he keys in on his first read far too often and attempts to force the ball in. Trubisky missed multiple wide open receivers last night because he either never saw them or never looked their way. The guy should have finished with 3 interceptions last night. He will ultimately be what holds this ridiculous defense and team back.

  33. Awesome post. We literally had a poster call a 2018 Pro Bowl QB “Henry Burris” last night, which reflects the irrational negativity & ridiculous exaggerations this board has come to love. The hot takes were out in full force last night and unfortunately with Bears fans even the smartest ones can’t contain their inner meatball at times (especially when the Packers are involved). Regardless, I’m highly confident Nagy will take the next 10 days to get this unit prepared and that the offense will look an entirely different animal vs Denver.

  36. Nagy caught a lot of shit for that last year but the criticism died down because he kept winning games. This time it was glaring, and really hard to argue that was a good call.

  37. I just want to point out, everyone things Miller kicks ass. He isn't a proven superstar or something and he missed a ton of practice time this off-season and you've heard a lot from coaches (last year and even this off-season) how he is not consistent in his breaks, etc. Dude has talent, so I am not saying he's a bum, but people talk about Miller like he's a proven 1000 yard receiver. Fuck it...I'll throw out my prediction. 30+ TDs for Mitch this year.

  38. Most of the problems the Bears had tonight are fixable but not gonna lie, it was discouraging seeing Trubisky doing things he was supposed to have developed beyond by this point. I ignored his rookie season entirely, and I gave him a pass for his inability to progress on his reads until later in the season, but at this point he shouldn't be having those issues anymore. I don't think Trubisky even looked in Anthony Miller's general direction the entire game - that wasn't on Nagy either

  39. Ok that is pretty savage lol.

  40. I saw him miss guys tonight. I can't stand Gabriel and I think he should have been cut. He's too expensive for what he brings. You have to be a tick below Usain Bolt at his size to create separation in the NFL. He's so small that he has to be wide open to actually be open. Even if Trubisky gets better later this year, this game will be a ton of the narrative because it's at home against Green Bay. I'm not entirely ready to commit Bears seppuku after calming down a bit, but another game or two with an offensive performance like this and I will be.

  41. What do you consider deep? I think he's pretty bad in intermediate routes too. He's bad past 10-12 yds IMO.

  42. Nagy made Schoop and Crowton look like a genius tonight. I'm not willing to completely jump off of the ledge yet,(I've calmed down a bit since the game ended) but holy shit was Trubisky awful tonight. That being said, Nagy did him zero favors. I'm not sure that I want Pace picking another QB if Mitch sucks because when he made Mitch the 2nd overall pick he raved about Mitch's accuracy. That has been his biggest issue in the NFL. I don't want someone who is that wrong on something like that picking a 2nd QB.
    1 point
  43. I get why people are upset about this loss and people want a scapegoat but the point of a scapegoat is it can only be one person. If there HAS to be one guy to blame for that game it's Nagy.
    1 point
  44. I mean, he did, but that wasn't the issue, it doesn't matter how accurate your throw was if you throw into double coverage, Robinson was never open. I guess he was trying to high-point it, just a bad idea considering the distance that throw had to travel. Of course, Baby Stillborn Fetus Gronk didn't do Trubisky any favors dropping a catch on the previous play.
