  1. In five years from now, when people ask who won the Chris Sale trade, the correct answer will be JD Martinez. He will have won a World Series in Boston with Sale and one in Chicago with Moncada/Kopech.

  3. Look at the DH and RF stats the last few years. Please this is a no brainer. The White Sox need professional hitters and can afford a bad three year contract.

  4. Eno Sarris of Athletic totally put down the White Sox in his chat saying they don’t provide game plans to their minor league players and hire analytics people and no one in the organization listen to them. Regarding the Lisle firing. Crazy stuff

  8. They not trading Vaughn...they just aren't. I have a feeling Castellanos is riding a wave right now. The Cubs will get a big chubby over his last month and give him a nice fat 3-4 year contract and regret it by June (which will be more icing on the cake for those choads).

  10. Yes, replace Hamels in that lineup with Bumgarner or one of the better ones and now you've got a deal. But let's be equally honest, you'll rip me either way because you can't help but make it personal, as you just did while replying to that post.

  11. I would be totally fine with the Sox giving JD Martinez 5/100 right now. He's a multiplier. He's a great hitter and makes other hitters better. I just want him around all the Sox younger hitters on a consistent basis. The contract would pay for itself. I was very impressed with Martinez after reading Astroball and The MVP machine.

  14. Here is my fear: - The reporting of Badler that it has gotten to the point teams are negotiating with 13-14 year olds - Jerry Reinsdorf, already a skeptic of spending money on “crapshoot” 16 year olds refuses to allow Sox to play that field - Jerry ties his own organizations hands in international so he can have bigger bargaining power in next CBA to install a draft. - Meanwhile sox lose out on best pipeline to keep infusing talent while competitive, and lack prospects to trade and hit ceiling of budget too soon. obviously point two is my theory, but Sox have jumped on opportunities to sign older talent in international while always saying what a crapshoot signing 16 year olds is.

  15. What happened to the title of this thread? So the thread title was changed without my consent (but with my name still attached) How was that done? Why was that done? Was my name put in the title in the third person to hurt my credibility? Antoher attack on my credibility as a poster. Why and how was this done, again without my consent when my name is attached to the thread? I'm not very happy about this.

  21. Indeed. It's just getting tiring reading these threads full of copious teeth gnashing over nothing but conjecture. I signed up for the Athletic just to see what was actually said because of how obnoxious it's getting lately.

  23. Rick Hahn should be absolutely ashamed of himself. How does he even look himself in the mirror? @Look at Ray Ray Run and @Balta1701 I know we've talked about this with Hahn: he should be an analytics guy, right? Harvard law, U Mich before that. So he's either compromised his beliefs in order to draw a lifetime check from JR or he's not an analytics guy at all and just fronted as one for the fans.

  25. Some version of what Nova said is the standard - that he would be happy to be there next year. That's different from "my agent's job is to make me be here next year" - the latter makes it sound like you're willing to take a discount to play there and unwilling to play elsewhere even if you get slightly better offers.

  26. Let's be honest. Is there an offseason you would be pleased with? The Sox could sign Rendon and Cole and you'd find a way to rip them.
    1 point
  27. FWIW - I think the organization as whole will make a conscious effort to not pump up the hopes of the fanbase like they did last offseason. Clearly they directly shot themselves in the foot by being so confident on Machado, and I don't think they're going to do that again. That being said, Cole is a longshot if just for the simple fact that every team will want him, and he'll likely have at least 10 active bidders. Will be tough for the Sox to win that, and I am not sure I even want them to if it requires a 7/$250M type deal. But I wouldn't put that much stock in what Steve Stone says.

  28. They arent signing Gerrit Cole.

  29. Not surprised with that at all, if I were a draftee I would never want to play in this organization.

  30. For sure, but they've had 1 week of bad QB play. It was the first time they've dealt with it over a full game since week 3 of last season. The overreactions are just getting to be a bit much. If the Bears stay healthy and finish 8-8, then the entire coaching staff deserves to be fired

  31. I've never seen such weird reactions to people saying that a 12-4 team might make the playoffs again. They're consistent across the media too

  32. Playoffs? LOL. The worst thing that could have happened to this team, did, last year and what was over achieve. Wild Card at best this year, though a long shot. Still most likely an 8-8 or 9-7 team this year.

  33. It was one thing to trade the slots when they were in penalty. To do it now is shameful, ignorant and lazy. If that is indeed how they proceed, it is a damning evidence to the competence and will to compete for this organization.

  34. Dombrowski on the South Side of Chicago whether you like him or not is a moot point. The present owner will have to pay him big bucks, bestow the title of president of baseball operations (which means a complete and total cultural change) and most certainly raising the payroll commiserate with other big market players. Ain't none of the above happening. It will be interesting where he lands. Out West is my guess. He and Maddon might hook up somewhere after the Cubs get rid of him. If my calculations are correct the Cubs lovable should be working on their FOURTH straight world series championship. Things are not quite working out. It's borders on mortal sin to even contemplate it, but St. Theo may be on the hot seat. Tuning into the Cubs dynasty on their new cable access station was going to be all the rage. The Ricketts may have to rethink that. The next World Series in Chicago (whenever and however that happens) will be played at G-Rate Field.

  36. I wish they would bring the diamond sick back on the road greys. I hate how they slapped the Sox old English logo on the sleeve. It looks very out of place to me.

  37. No way. The 80s logos are dated. It was cute for a while, but the current look is a modern classic. The 05 team wore the modern look. It should stay.

  38. I watched quite a few football games. I saw a lot of pretty sloppy play in general. Goff and Cam Newton both played pretty sloppy in the Rams/Panthers game. In general, Trubisky could suck this year and take a step back...he could also take 2 steps forward. The statistical significance of Thursday's game on either of those outcomes is relatively small (imo).

  42. C'mon. You had to know Parkey was going to miss that kick. And Philly was a good team. Weren't they the defending champions? Parkey cost them the game, I wasnt disappointed at all. Chalked it up to shit happens. It sucked they lost but we all knew it could end that way. Thursday night was much more disappointing. They looked like a fucking 5 win team. They looked like they belonged vs. Philly. Style points matter. The eye test means more than record in the playoffs.

  44. Lovie is 3rd in Bears history in wins by a HC, btw. There are a lot of good pieces on this defense that are young, but they're going to lose some of them. Yes, When Pace took over the Bears had the worst talent pool in the NFL. There's no denying that. He's done an excellent job outside of QB. The QB issue will sink this team if Mitch sucks. He bet his job on Mitch. If Trubisky goes down in flames, Pace should go with him. I think Angelo sticking as long as he did was a mistake. he should have been fired after 2008. I know it's hard to fire someone after a winning season, but I had seen enough at that point. They're going to have Roquan Smith and Eddie Jackson for a while. They're in their 2nd and 3rd year respectively. They can't let either of them get away. The concern is that Hicks and Mack are toward the end of their prime right now. They're 28. The dropoff is coming. It's just a fact of life in football. Pace is much better on the offensive side than Angelo was, I don't deny that. The argument is, after putting his job on the line with Trubisky, by trading what he did for him, does he get another crack at the QB position? I'm not sure I want him picking another QB, and right now I lean toward no. Pace is a good GM. I really like what he's done outside of QB. There are two gripes I have with him: 1) QB Evaluation(Glennon and Trubisky look really bad right now) and 2) Trading draft picks like candy(Mack was ok, I'm talking about other ones) I don't mind #2 as much when you get a solid player or better, but eventually that catches up with you depth wise. The jury's still hung on Mitch, but 8 out of 12 jurors think he sucks. I'm willing to give Trubisky until week 10-12. This is a make or break year for him. He has to show as much improvement as he did last year from week to week. Otherwise, he's just bad. I haven't written him off completely yet. Thursday night was incredibly disappointing to the fanbase on so many levels, hence the hot takes. Forgive everyone.

  45. Andrew recorded a combined babip of .282 this season. That’s quite low. Hard to predict a normalized babip for him, but by comparison José Abreu lifetime babip is .329. Something similar to that would have put Vaughn’s OPS up near .900 this past season.
