  1. Yoan sucked defensively at 2b but has been a stud at 3b this year. Why does everyone assume he would be more valuable at 2b?

  2. Is it your personal challenge at this point to make your next comment about Jose Abreu actually dumber than the one that preceded it?

  3. After last night's debacle the Sox probably weren't looking forward to tonight's game which would be a bullpen game. But 8 pitchers later the Sox held the Twins to just 3 hits and came away with a 3-1 victory. Eloy Jimenez went 2/3 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Most of us probably don't realize it but basically Eloy has been extremely good since June. The problem is he was injured for most of July and when August started he was rusty but finished strong and his September has been red hot. Next year we will see the real Eloy if he can stay healthy. Moncada has also been red hot for a while. He went 2/4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. and is hitting .431 in September. Zack Collins continues to show he can be a force from the left side lately with his 2nd HR in 2 days. He is starting to get more comfortable and has a modest 4 game hitting streak which is great considering his 6 games before this he went hitless. Even though most are aware his catching is suspect, he has to be given some credit for handling 8 different pitchers who held the Twins to just 3 hits and 1 run. If Zack can be guy who continues to get on base and hit for power he is a huge key to the Sox ascending . He might not ever get that chance if the Sox decide someone like Grandal would be a worthy Free Agent but catching probably will be behind a few other positions as far as need goes. Tim Anderson went1/4 in his pursuit of a batting title and is hitting a robust .400 in September.

  4. Moncada has been damn good at 3rd. No guarantee hed be good at 2nd or in RF.

  5. Not one person from the past 10+ years who approached me with a MLM pitch that I resisted and subsequently proceeded to mock me for my "Just Over Broke" (job) or working for "massa" is wealthy now, or even still doing their MLM. I remember the first time I sat in on one of these obvious scams, it was Tahitian Noni, and they hyped up the product so much but the tell was instead of talking about how to actually sell this product they went right on to trying to recruit people for the downline (people who are lucky enough to get high up in MLMs get really defensive when you call it a pyramid scheme). I distinctly remember sitting through the sales pitch where they talked about the health benefits of the noni juice (helps relieve arthritis symptoms, resolves diabetes, lowers cancer risk, the moment where my inner voice started laughing is when he said "HIV" - this was the mid 2000s and the treatments they have for it now weren't common yet). They've since been sued and changed their name. Once you've had a couple friends approach you with this stuff you become attuned to it. "Hey man, I wanna talk to you about a business opportunity when I have some time" or an old high school friend hitting you up out of the blue then abruptly bringing this shit up.

  6. Harper has been worth his contract so far in his first year.

  7. Rick Hahn deserves a lifetime contract for getting those two superstars. Add in Eloy and Collins. Goodness

  10. Ha. I do like my high ceiling position guys but there are a lot of college arms to like too. RHP Emerson Hancock (Georgia) has the best combination of body, athleticism and stuff. There's some effort to the delivery and he was ouchy last spring but he looks to have the highest ceiling among the college arms. RHP JT Ginn (Miss St) is a draft eligible sophomore who was a 1st round pick by the Dodgers but decided to go to school so if you think they know something about drafting players (they do) he would be a nice target. RHP Cole Wilcox (Georgia) is a big bastard and another draft eligible sophomore with a heavy fastball plus secondaries and plus command. He's probably the best combination of floor and ceiling among the college arms. He won't turn 21 until a month after the draft. LHP Asa Lacy (Texas A&M) is a pitchabilty lefty who gets it done more with deception than big stuff and those guys scare me this high in the draft. LHP Reid Detmers (Louisville) is another guy who doesn't show a big fastball but his plus plus curveball is a separator and the change and command are improving. Again top 10 may be too high. RHP Tommy Mace (Florida) is the guy I'm most interested in seeing this spring. He's tall (6'6”) and wiry and nasty as shit but his command comes and goes. If he's able to make a couple adjustments he could easily jump into the top 10. He reminds me a little of Jack McDowell. RHP Tanner Burns (Auburn) has really good shit but is an undersized righty with a max effort delivery. Reminds me too much of Carson Fulmer. I'm out. A few other guys I'll be watching closely are LHP Jake Eder (Vandy), Joe Boyle and his 100+ fastball (Notre Dame) and LHP Luke Little (San Jac)

  12. Jose Valentin's best seasons of his career were his age 30 - 33 seasons though, so I wouldn't say he was on his way down. The Sox got him just in time for the peak years of his career. He's still one of my favorite all time WSox.

  13. Don't lie to yourself: if Harper were having the same year in a Sox uniform we'd all be b****ing about how he's an overpaid bum. Harper and Machado are not and were never A-Rod and Manny Ramirez. They probably deserve 25M per year on an 8 year deal. Their deals were too long and for too much. It seems like the Sox were the only team involved that valued them properly. Harper and Machado got paid based on one outlier of a year that each had. Otherwise, they're both very good players but neither are stars.

  14. I want as few below average players as possible on this team simply because I don’t trust Ricky to not play them everyday or bat them cleanup or put them in the lineup because of a platoon split that doesn’t exist.

  15. Collins as primary DH, backup 1B/catch. Yermin be a backup C/1B. If either of them stumbles, you hope Gavin Sheets or Andrew Vaughn get through Charlotte quick.

  16. That's what happens when most of your draft picks flail, you don't get any success or spend your money in International Free Agency while you also trade it away when you should be trading for it.., you keep employees without a track record of success employed. you have no presence in Japan or the Dominican Republic, you haven't spent what's necessary in player development be it high speed cameras or adding an extra minor league team. You haven't found one diamond in the rough since the rebuild started with the possible exception of McCann and that's not guaranteed despite cycling through a bunch of AAA fodder and you completely whiff not only on Machado but anyone else who could 've brought some depth to the organization but instead spend it on Yonder Alonso, John Jay and to a lesser extent Nova who frankly did about what the Sox expected from him. The amount of flotsam and jetsam on the 40 is astounding for a team that might be looking to compete next year. or 2021 and it will take a minor miracle the kind which Hahn has never pulled off in his entire career as GM to achieve.

  17. Machado is better than him at 3B. If Machado was signed, Moncada most likely would have been at 2B this year, perhaps moving to accommodate Madrigal next year. I doubt they would move him again. But assuming Madrigal is really good, I bet Yoan would be better as a RF than anyone they eventually sign.

  18. It seems like whenever coaches and players are interviewed they are confident in the team next year. I believe the aggressive plans for this off-season are spoken about within the organization. I don't see a scenario where we waste another great year from our core guys when we have specific holes we can fill to get much better. I don't expect Cole, but I expect huge acquisitions for SP2, DH, RF, BP1, and SP4.

  19. Haha, Vector marketing. I did that the summer after I graduated HS. I remember my Dad waking me up every morning at 0745 because you had to call the manager every morning instead of going into the office. They really want you to just beg to your family and friends for money. I did it for like 3 weeks and was done.

  20. Surprised you guys are letting greg be the loudest voice in support of Collins on here. I'm anti tank but I want one of the key pieces to play. The eye test of greg says me likey Zack Collins! I'd think I'd have some support on here from the rebuild people.

  22. It's Zack Collins time, baby. Absolutely no reason to not have him as No. 1 catcher in April. McCann is fine as a tutor to Zack.

  23. I dont think you understand the concept of blood testing. Previous tests needed to look for specific drugs. This is why the chemists had the advantage. They could create drugs never seen before thus they couldn't test for them. With the current blood tests they have a baseline hormone level. If that level goes up for any reason, it's a positive test. They do not need to look for specific drugs any longer.

  24. it isn't 100% set in stone what I'm doing yet, but I'll have something when I finish my foot surgeries next spring. Really looking forward to it. It's going to take some time for him to create the position and get his own stuff together. Nothing's happening until next spring at the earliest. All I know is that I'm in and once everything is good with him, I'm good.

  26. Hell yeah Altuve is juicing. Jesus man. It's obvious. It's not even a question. Athletes throughout history have been willing to risk it all for a chance to be the best. Don't be ridiculously naive. The danger is one of the biggest draws.

  27. The reward definitely outweighs the risk when you're 5'6 like Altuve or 39 like Cruz. We're talking a $100m or more risk here. Of course it's worth it for some. I also wouldn't use regular people logic when we're talking about athletes.

  28. Fantastic news. My main advice...work hard, put your head down, and do your best. And if you need to..try yoga or other techniques to calm your nerves. Oh and think and be positive...the power of positivity is huge.

  29. Fox was a second baseman. He spent all but one of his sox seasons playing next to Hall of Famers Luke Appling and Luis Aparicio. So yeah.

  30. So good news everyone! My cousin owns his own business and is planning to create a spot for me in it. I've worked for him for a short time before on a trial basis, mostly to see what I was and wasn't good at. He knows how I can contribute in a more productive way this time. He suggested I start getting some Comp TIA and other certifications. I just am getting started today and I'm excited for what the future holds!

  32. I don't get this. All he had to do was sleep with supermodels like a normal rich 20-something athlete and then he'd almost certainly get even more money in free agency in a year or two. Easy, awesome life. Or...he could fall in love with a middle schooler he met in the bleachers.
