I'd still rather wait a year. Hes not signing an extension with one year left anyway so just wait.2 points

If he has a 10-yr Sox run and plays on a couple playoff teams, it’s a lock under Reinsdorf. Hell, they don’t give out 13 or 23, and 6 for a dead hitting coach. No offense to the Lau family, but it’s ridiculous.2 points

^^^^^ Sale is gone and is never coming back. Get over it people. I'm more than happy with Moncada. Anything that Kopech and Basabe give is just a bonus.2 points

Apparently the Red Sox are looking to cut payroll, and an article on CBS sport(Linked at the bottom) suggests that "it'll be impossible to move David Price's and Chris Sale's contracts without attaching prospects to them, and the Sox right now don't have many frontline prospects." My question to you guys would be, what would a deal for Sale, with or without the BoSox attaching prospects look like? Would you do something like Lopez, Vaughn, Stiever, and an OF prospect of their choice not named Robert? Would the BoSox? I'd love to have Sale back to go with Giolito, Kopech, and Cease. What about Price with a prospect? article also suggests that JDM will pick up his option. I won't touch on the Betts part as I'm sure the Sox don't have the bullets. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/red-sox-ownership-announces-plan-to-cut-payroll-heading-into-2020/1 point

I'm not buying sports video games every year anymore. I bought Show, Madden and NHL this year and I've decided that it's going to be an every couple years thing and I'm going to stagger them. Next year madden, in 2021 the Show, in 2022 NHL and so on. I don't play enough to justify the cost every year. With the Show and Madden they do a good job in the Roster Vault. I'm really bummed NHL doesn't have one because that's the one I'd enjoy having a roster vault the most in. I'm a sucker for hockey nostalgia. I MIGHT continue to buy NHL every year because I have a metric ton of fun with those. If I was able to drive and work this fall/winter, I wouldn't have purchased Madden and NHL.1 point

- When healthy, Avi always had a respectable AVG na drespectable pop - I'd want him to DH and backup in RF and don't value WAR - Who? Castellanos? Maybe1 point

I see it a lot on Twitter too. I really don't get it. He's a top-25 prospect in baseball for a reason.1 point

IMO, that's what we'll see next season. Much better defense, and offense with slight regression but still very good (maybe 115-120 wRC+). 5 WAR.1 point

BamaDoc has some interesting suggestions. But as for some of the other suggestions in this thread, if this organization isn't thinking higher than giving Yolmer three years or bringing back Avi ...... lord help us1 point

But they're also pitchers. You could end up signing Cole and he never pitches an inning in 2020. He comes to ST and gets hurt. Masahiro Tanaka has been pitching 3 seasons on a partially torn UCL and still hasn't gone under the knife. Sale didn't have anywhere close to as many arm issues with the Sox that he did with Boston.1 point

Sorry, but your post doesn't make sense. All free agents are risks...that's part of playing that game. But the other guys aren't in the process of breaking down right now as Chris Sale is. It's not even close to the same. Not all guys come back 100% from injuries. Many don't.1 point

I can't tell you how many arguments I've read in the last 4-5 years here at SoxTalk that that deal wasn't bad at all for the White Sox...that it was a "coup" for Rick Hahn, even (except against the Royals).1 point

Just want to chime in that Colome should be non-tendered. Definitely not a closer you want to count on next year.1 point

Retire it or don’t retire it. Who cares. It’s 79, nobody will notice.1 point

I know TA flips bats and all, but that routine throw was not only low and in the dirt, it was also wide. He is a major leaguer. Throwing it at least near 1B shouldn’t be an issue. I get a kick out of how many people say scoops are easy. I would love to see all of you try it one day. It would probably be as laughable as that bar that had people kicking 43 yard field goals.1 point

But is he willing to dump Gatorade on himself and stick a banana cream pie down his pants? Didn't think so. Yolmer stays.1 point

Thanks Greg. As the post was long, didn't mention a couple other things I would do. Robert and Madrigal arriving allow Leury to become the super utility. I would offer Yolmer 3 yrs 10-12 million and if you can't work out a deal trade/nontender him. Leury has to work on fixing the so/w issues. For a guy with little power a 138/20 so/w ratio is unacceptable. If you get to late innings and use him in left with Robert cf, Gardner rf , that would actually give you some decent defense. Credit to him for a healthier year and their positional versatility could allow you to carry Collins as a third catcher LH DH/1B. Maybe even free Yermin! There are a host of bullpen pitchers at AAA and lower who I think will allow you to piece together a decent bullpen. Colome and Herrera will cost about 18 million next year so I don't know if another expensive arm is added. It would be nice if Burdi, Hamilton, or Burr could reestablish their ceilings. Few mention that with relievers having to face 3 batters or the end of an inning how it will impact LOOGYs. Bummer has no split issues so lefties like him will have even higher value. Left handed batters may be a little better off if they aren't facing LOOGYs anymore which is another reason I wish to add some LH bats.1 point

Then why would you feel confident signing Cole, Strasburg, Bumgarner or anyone else on the free agent market? You can make that argument about any pitcher who reaches FA. I'd actually feel safer with Sale than anyone else because they knew how to keep him healthy during his previous stint, regardless of any current elbow damage. As long as his shoulder is ok, I'm fine re-aquiring Sale, should he wish to return. They'd have to pay for the first year of the contract as an insurance policy, but I'd take the 4/120 after that and be pretty confident they could get 170+innings from him each subsequent season. He's not coming back, so this is all just mental masturbation anyway.1 point

Saying it was a failure is incorrect, but I think saying that it was completely unimpressive and cheap is arguable. A team with top 3 resources loses on purpose for years, kris Bryant falls into their lap, then they outlay almost half a billion dollars in one year to buy a World Series in a down year competitively in baseball, everyone on the pitching staff has a career year, the Indians are missing their best players, and they barely squeak one out with prospects. Then they spend another half billion to sustain playoff appearances, dwarfing all other teams in spending, draft like complete crap outside of Bryant, and now find themselves in a mess. Yawn. If your strategy is simply to outspend everybody else, it’s not that cool.1 point

Nice post. Though I still would love to see the Sox replace Ricky. Mainly because I just hate his in game managing decisions and lineup construction. But I know he'll be back.1 point
-
Yeah this. They had an awful offseason 2018-2019 but the 2019 year went pretty well all things considered. They weren't trying to win.1 point
-
Haha, no one falls on any sword with this organization. No other team would have Ricky managing next year with the same circumstances as this year but guess what Ricky will be managing the White Sox next year. ?1 point

Was this really an awful year? Moncada, Timmy, & Giolito will combine for ~15 WAR. Eloy showed signed of becoming a dominant hitter. Bummer established himself a legit, left-handed setup man. Cease got 70+ major league innings. McCann looks like he can part of the catching mix going forward. Honestly, outside of all the injuries and Lopez regressing, there isn’t much to be that disappointed about this year. Who really cares if our record sucked because of a bunch of guys who won’t be back next year? The young core more or less took the necessary steps forward and that’s all that matters.1 point

No need to apologize to us. I jump the gun a lot too, honestly. I'm sorry it wasn't the more immediate fix that you thought it was. And I'm glad he's trying to help but don't put your life on hold for him either. Keep looking for things. What about online money making opportunities? I don't know too much about them, but I swear I've seen such things before. Like teaching English to kids in China, or reviewing products, stuff like that. It might not be a ton of income, but it'd at least be something and it could give you something useful to do, and it shouldn't burden your chronic pain issues too much.1 point

Where do you guys find leagues like this? Or are they just like 8 teams?1 point

I think Anderson is going to destroy that number. Tim goes 3.5+ WAR this year.1 point
