I'd bet my life that if Joe Girardi coached the 2019 White Sox they'd win .....between 68-75 games3 points

the best tweet I have seen about this yet is "this guys name is what women feel after they sleep with Jace Fry" ?2 points

It's more like it wouldn't be a problem as opposed to a solution when you consider cost effectiveness . How is it the amazing Rays Front Office could see his value yet even smart ( and I mean that it's not sarcastic) Sox fans like you can't ?2 points

1st of all lets not pretend you aren't snarky or condescending (see the 1st comment I quoted) so sometimes you get it back. Turnin' Two contradicted your statement about "playing him strictly when he was most likely to succeed " rather well citing his amount of plate appearances and your 6.2 career WAR also very well by citing his last few seasons which means a lot more than career numbers. He also could've told you he played 125 games and only because of injury didn't play more. 90 of the 125 were in Rf. 24 at DH and even 11 in CF. Basically you are laughing at how one of the smartest organization in baseball found value in Avi yet somehow the Sox won't be able to . And again it's not like anyone is championing his return. Turnin Two made it clear he's not the best option but he is also not a laughable or out of our minds option.2 points

This. They shot a higher % from 3 than they did overall. Bulls can also light it up and had a terrible 1H/1Q shooting and Got back into the game. Definitely need to find ways to make stops on D but they have legit talent.2 points

You just proved our point that their were contested shots FYI. You are acting like people were saying every shot they took was contested.1 point

If the Sox hold on and win the division in 2016 the Shields trade was actually good! Eaton was like a C-, D+ trade that they're not going to have to regret is all. Though, FWIW, no way Giolito survives 2018 on the Nats1 point
-
I just don't think it can be considered a win for the Nats. The Nats would have been better this year with Giolito in the rotation and a replacement level right fielder. Team outcomes don't really impact the valuation of a trade imo. If they don't have Eaton, and have Giolito, maybe they don't sign corbin and then they can afford Harper. There's a lot of reasons why value is all that matters in trades.1 point

I've got no axe to grind against Eaton but didn't that home run make the game like 10-2. Not exactly a clutch homer...he ran into one against one of the Astros lesser relievers. He was not the reason the Nationals won game 2 and he has not had a good post season otherwise. They can apologize to Eaton all they want...I will take Giolito, Lopez and Dunning.1 point

Apparently the Astros are firing Taubmann the "Thank god for domestic violence" guy. Notably more than happened to the actual domestic abuser, but it's a start.1 point

The Cubs probably would have gone to the playoffs several years in a row with Ricky too. also, there’s zero evidence of that.1 point

He's a leader of men in a way Renteria never will be. And while he has problems with his bullpen decisions have you seen our current manager? Joe > Rick in every way.1 point

Unless Girardi can pitch I don't think it looks like the Phillies are more serious about anything.1 point

Philly signed Girardi. Looks like they are more serious about winning than the Sox.1 point

If Grandal is the stud you’re making him out to be they would have found a place for him on the roster. Rather than spending similar money for an injury prone AJ Pollock ($60M guaranteed), they could have easily traded one or both of their catching prospects for a younger, better, healthier, cost controlled version of Pollock to provide outfield help.1 point
-
He started 74 games against RH starters. To say he was being platooned is disingenuous. And to Cali's point, his numbers were better across his entire slash line against RHP than LHP.1 point
-
Yep. I said Grandal is best catcher in baseball. You love to move the target on discussions and put words in peoples mouths - you do it consistently on every post. Would have been a nice $100 to take off you on our playoff bet that you backed out of. Grandal fits the White Sox, just as he did with the Brewers and Mets this past offseason. He's not a world beater, however the Sox do not go after Gerrit Cole, Hapers, Macahados, Rendon's of the world. We'll never get those guys. With this being a "realistic" offseason thread.... Grandal is about the top of talent pool the Sox will acquire via FA. I would easily sign him without thinking twice and send McCann off to no mans land. Here are the Sox worth rostering and caring about in tiers: Tier 1 : Giolito, Kopech, Robert, Eloy, Madrigal, Cease, Moncada Tier 2 : Anderson, Abreu, Lopez Tier 3: don't care about any other sox player enough. they are very replaceable. The job of the Sox FO is to add a TOR pitcher into Tier 1 and then fill tier 2 with a bunch of FA. Grandal would make Tier 2. We then need a Tier 2 RF and DH as well. I expect the Sox to never come close to signing a TOR pitcher via FA. I do however epxect them to sell off a bunch of the farm in 2021 or 2022 to acquire a controllable starter like Cole or Quintana.1 point

Moose, Puig, Odorizzi, 2-3 low risk bull pen arms, backup/3rd catcher Not the sexy off season everyone wants, but that’s the “realistic” off season I see happening. Play Moose at 2B until Madrigal comes up and give Collins an extended look at DH...no idea why Collins at least getting a shot at regular AB’s is seemingly not an option on this board1 point

I got clowned on for suggesting we don't sign Jose for over 1 year. Look who everybody agrees with now. Funny! Either give him the QO and hope he declines, or sign him for less than the QO on a 1 year deal. A 3 year deal would be a disaster.1 point

Much appreciated^ I hope Hahn and Co. are smart enough to not pay Abreu anywhere close to retail. The old mindset would be ink him for three years, $45 million and be happy. The new, more analytical, MLB would not offer an aging slugger beyond a season or two at a reasonable rate. Would another club really offer him much more? Vaughn is in the pipeline now, and it is not crazy to think he could be MLB ready by 2021 given his advanced offensive profile. We have to remember not to totally blow our wad this offseason and leave little flexibility for next offseason when we truly expect to be in the contention mix. Extending our core should also be explored.1 point

I'm absolutely in the do not overpay Abreu camp. Love him as a player, but I do not think he will get a substantial contract offer on the open market.1 point

That is what I was thinking...at least Robin was a great player for the Sox. Ross is one of the most overrated hyped up players ever to play baseball in this town. He is like a mythical creature because of his playoff home run, etc. It is like if the Sox would have hired Geoff Blum to manage the team.1 point

The more we talk about this the more it’s obvious they should really just try to get Jose on a 1 year deal.1 point

For TV, no way...they would be a much better radio pairing, unless DJ was really going to wake up out of his stupor and push the (potential t.v.) broadcast towards serious analysis and away from the "insider-ish jokers" gag they've got going on radio, where almost nobody but the Over 50 crowd is listening. I just worry that Benetti on t.v. with his joke routines paired with DJ "zaniness" would be a bit too much. Would that draw in a new generation of White Sox fans? Hmmmm.... For another boring/uneventful season, it would be fine...but not really important games.1 point

That game was a complete anomaly. PJ Washington, who hit 38 3s on 38% in two years of college went 7/11. Graham, who shot 28% last year and made 0.7 per game went 6/7. There were definitely contested shots. Lauri was encouraging besides the two missed FTs in crunch time that ultimately probably cost them the game.1 point
-
They were making 3s on contested shots too. It honestly didn't matter for them. Was like watching Golden State out there. It was definitely an outlier game for them.1 point

Should have stuck with Intimidators, honestly. I do like the Earnhardt reference in the logo, but I mean...1 point

And THIS is a major red flag to me regarding Grandal. Also, if he’s as good as metrics seem to portray, why could he only muster a 1 year $16M deal (with 2nd year mutual option) last winter? That confirms to me that the rest of the league is just as skeptical of the guy as me.1 point
-
No. McCann is the backup catcher (takes Gios starts and some starts against LHP). Collins is a part time platoon player that gets occasional starts at catcher, 1b and DH against RHP. Not that complicated.1 point
-
I'd argue that McCann is better for the pitching staff than Grandal. This team doesnt need an elite hitting catcher - that's what Robert, Moncada, Eloy, Abreu, Timmy and Madrigal are for. McCann should be fine hitting 8th or 9th in an MLB lineup. McCann clearly took strides with his game and bat last year - his approach was different and he was not the same player as he was years prior. His BABIP was inflated but he also just made better contact in general. If he was a 1.5-2 WAR catcher hed be between 10-12 in baseball. Again, that is fine. The Nationals start Kurt Suzuki at catcher so I'm not sure what I'm looking at... mccann is every bit as good as Suzuki. The White Sox have holes to fill - I'd argue mccann doesnt rank in the top 5 of holes on this team. Hes the least of their concern imo.1 point

Girardi is only is a former cub and from the area and also has won a World Series as both a player and manager that's all. Not really qualified like Ross1 point

I agree that stud starting pitching wins playoff series including the WS. It is possible that the FO thinks Gio, Kopech and Cease will have 2 of the 3 develop into TOR guys. If that's the case...sign Wheeler or Bumgarner type. If FO thinks we lack that #1 guy...sign Cole. In the meantime...don't spend money on guys we don't need. Use that Rendon money toward the best RF and DH you can find.1 point
