  1. Until they prove that the money "will be spent" I will assume that seat will be at the kid's table

  3. I can understand Cole’s petulance. Like any great competitor, he undoubtedly believes that even though he’s almost never been used in relief his entire career...that he would have shut down the Nats in the 7th or at very worst kept it at a one run deficit with three more at-bats against a shaky pen at home.

  4. Apparently, he and Bauer hated each other when they pitched for UCLA, fwiw.

  5. The only way things will change is Reinsdorf is 6 feet under and new ownership. Tired of the same broken record. It really is sad that every major league team is committed including Baltimore internationally. Pathetic

  6. Leury Garcia would make a very solid platoon RF partner.

  7. It just reeks so much of trading 2nd round NBA draft picks because you don’t like anyone available

  8. Nothing wrong with making money but something is amiss with the Sox IFA agency process. That's the much larger story here.

  9. Because it fits your agenda.

  10. Honestly, I don't understand the point of trading away assets for a 1 year rental. Use the money that is going to be spent on a short term free agent until we see what we have in our OF prospects. My problem is that I have been a big fan of Steele Walker for awhile and many posters here just throw him in as one of the pieces of a trade. That being said, I respect your opinion. I just think we should spend the $, mostly on pitching, this year. Pederson will be there next year in free agency if we want him then.

  11. In other words, Abreu would be the one year stop gap measure at first until Vaughn gets here, and EE would be the one year stop gap until Abreu can slide over into full-time DH duties in 2021. Makes a lot of sense to me!

  12. Yes, Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin had nothing to do with the Nats winning the World Series and were cheap signings. Good thing they didn’t “overspend”

  13. As for the original question. I'd take Strasberg. But this being the White Sox, I'd settle for Zack Wheeler.

  14. And what does a seat at the table accomplish? Do you get points for how many seats you've had at tables and can thus cash them in to save money on future FAs? Can these seats be cashed in for wins or to move up in the draft?

  15. Good luck signing any quality free agent with this mindset.

  16. From a fan's standpoint, that's pretty much the dumbest thing ever, to sabotage your own franchise to make a moral and perhaps financial point simultaneously. Nobody is listening to JR anyway, his pre-emptive argument will be lost on the new generation of owners and front office people.

  17. This has been my theory since the Badler story broke. The sox are being told to refuse to play by JR so they can hold greater leverage to get owners to get in line at the next CBA, so they are using the pool of actual 16 year olds, as the top players had been signed already. And as we've seen with our relative success with Jose Rodriguez/Guzman, players do randomly get better there! It's just the issue of constantly playing from a more restricted field than the rest of the league and then relying on free agency to solve all problems - which is much more expensive. And finally - then blaming fans for not having more money.

  18. Yup As we see last night with Soto and Robles

  19. I mean...I am not defending the move at all, but if you weren't going to use it, may as well get something for it, even if its just saving $500k. The fact that they didn't spend it is what is a fucking joke. But that is not new information - we've known that for awhile. Sure, someone else could pop up, but I think most guys worth signing have been signed, or are already being courted by another team. As balta suggested, I do hope someone asks Hahn specifically about this move and the Jones move at Soxfest.

  20. Only excuse I can think of is the Sox valued the player they got back more than a $250k player in IFA. Being 23 at low A and bad isn't really a glowing endorsement though so I'm going to say that's BS.

  21. Another penny pinching move by the Sox. Jerry Reinsdorf is pathetic.

  22. If I was the Mets GM, there is literally no reasonable package you could make out of those players that would convince me to give up Nimmo right now. I'd turn down any 4 of those guys. Maybe talk to me at the deadline if some of them have some success. Brandon Nimmo is a 27 year old former first round pick with 3 remaining years of control and a 4-win season 2 years ago. I don't care how many other OFs they have, there is no good reason to give that up without a top 50 prospect keying the return. If I go back to Carlos Rodon after 2017, even after he had his first injury problem, and say "would I trade Carlos Rodon for a package of 5 of those guys?" I'd have said "good lord no." Those guys have enough value to do the kinds of deals the White Sox did in 2015 and 2016; getting guys who are now in their last 1-2 years before free agency, who don't have a lot of time left to build any additional value with their team and who are getting expensive. They're not valueless, but the only way they could bring Nimmo in return is if the Mets FO is awful.

  26. I just want them to make good movies. Of the last 7, they're 1 for 6. That's not nostalgia talking. If it was, I wouldn't think that Rogue One was fantastic. None of the rest are actually good movies. I guess Solo and TFA aren't terrible, but Solo is a standard, mostly lifeless, Hollywood heist film with all the typical plot points and The Force Awakens wasn't terrible, but it was hollow and not at all engaging. The Skywalker saga just needs to end already. #spacehorses
