  2. Move Moncada to RF and TA to catcher. Enjoy World Series.

  3. I feel like he was pretty hamstrung by Kenny for the first few years of his "GM" tenure, and the rebuild marks the time when he actually got to start doing what he wanted. In my view, Hahn's defining move is getting players to sign long-term deals early, which drastically raises their value. I'm happy with the young talent that he has acquired since the rebuild began. I was hoping the Sox would get Machado, but the fact of the matter is Moncada (in his breakout year) was pretty significantly better than Manny last year. Last season would have been early in a rebuild to start adding veterans, I think. Now that several of the young players have shown that they are good (potentially great) major league players, and a couple more are right on the cusp, the Sox know what areas need to be addressed via free agency. Jerry's track record is very poor in regards to free agents, but the White Sox have literally never been in this position, financially, so I'm giving him this winter to change his stripes. They could add three absolutely premiere FAs, and still only put themselves near 11th or 12th in payroll (where they were from '05 until the start of the rebuild). This is Hahn's one chance, though, in my eyes. This rebuild is his baby, I think. It's the first thing that doesn't feel like it has Kenny's fingerprints on it. I am very happy with the early returns on the added youth, but if the rebuild does not produce a multi-year playoff contender at some point, then Hahn has failed, and he must go. I think the "beginning of the end" of a GM's first attempt at a rebuild is a pretty slanted spot to judge him, statistically. But, of course, I am an optimist by nature.

  4. Moncada would at least solid in CF, and elite in RF. Signing Rendon and Wheeler would push the Sox into contention

  5. Again, there's going to be more competition for Wheeler than Cole or Strasburg. I'd be shocked if they landed Wheeler. I think he's everyone's #1 target actually.

  6. I would be incredibly disappointed if Keuchel is the best SP they landed this off-season. They need to not screw this winter up (again).

  7. I’d be incredibly disappointed if our offseason was signing two of that second group.

  9. Don’t blame him for asking. But clearly Sox aren’t agreeing. this could be the best case scenario, honestly.

  10. Most Major League GMS don't get seven straight losing seasons to prove themselves. However, I think this franchise has problems that go beyond Hahn, and I don't know much better some other GM would have done. Real decisive action should have been taken in the 2011-2012 off season and it didn't happen. The team is still paying for it. Having said all of this, I think we all know the franchise is at a real important phase. Hahn's reputation is on the line, even though I wonder how much his hands are tied. There were be no Cole or Stasberg.

  11. Rick Hahn hasn't maximized the available resources that have been afforded to him. This is a triumvirate though and it's tough to pin any singular move on Rick Hahn specifically. They don't spend in the international market but that's because the owner is risk averse in regards to forking over $$ to 16-years olds. The club's pro scouting operation is horrendous and they've wasted money in recent years, albeit in years they were attempting to lose on purpose, on players that didn't recoup much value. Last off-season is the perfect example. The Manny Machado miss is not Rick Hahn's fault. Hahn would have just paid Machado 10/310 but that's wasn't his call. On the other hand, he can absolutely be blamed for the Kelvin Herrera signing for example. The Sox are run like a mob family. Hahn handles the day to day and takes the arrows generally while KW still makes many of the decisions and Reinsdorf provides the budget but is never heard from. I think we'd all prefer a different front office but the owner is by far the biggest issue.

  15. These are good points and I largely agree. That said, it really depends on how the Sox treat Kopech. Hahn has made some hints that they'll keep Kopech down. So I can see a scenario where the Sox sign one of the guys you mentioned and then another average starting pitching that could end up in the pen. Say they keep Kopech down and run out something like this. 1 Giolito 2 Keuchel 3 Cease 4 McHugh/Gibson 5 Lopez Then end, of May Kopech comes in. Then Rodon and maybe Dunning/Steiver come into play June/July. I dont think Lopez should have a rotation and I dont think they should hold Kopech back but with the injuries and options the different ways they can deploy Kopech there is some serious flexibility that has to be a consideration with Cease/Kopech/Dunning/Stiever and even Giolito to an extent will have innings concerns come August/September.

  17. Right. Giving 4th outs to the other team is usually a good idea *rolls eyes*

  18. Lol. This guy who I’ve never seen play the OF and by all accounts has never played it in his life would be “elite”. Quite a take.

  19. Personally I'd leave Moncada alone. He is blossoming in to an elite player - there's no need to mess with him. The idea of moving TA was just as much to get away from his errors at shortstop as it was to fill the hole in the Sox lineup.

  21. I wouldn't mess with Moncada. 3rd is where he belongs. I believe this club would be much stronger with improved defense at SS. I see Didi as the answer. Try TA in CF or RF and if he sticks, bingo. If not, Didi can get plenty of ABs as IF support (inc. 1B) and DH. Alternatively, TA should have strong trade value coming off his 2019 and his team friendly contract. Not sure who needs a SS (Reds, Giants,?) but guessing he could bring serious pitching help.

  22. I don't disagree with you at all. I'm pretty sure they are going to keep him there though for better or for worse.

  23. I'd go strong after Didi but you don't get him for $9M/year. FG projects 2/$28M and MLB.com suggested 3/$42M. I do like your thinking.

  24. I will never take anything you say serious ever on this site. Yelich’s first four seasons by wRC+ 1st- 118 2nd- 118 3rd- 120 4th- 134 Mazara’s first four seasons by wRC+ 1st- 91 2nd- 87 3rd- 95 4th- 94 His career fWAR is 1.7. Yelich’s first 62 games he ever played was 1.8. Yelich had one 2.4 fWAR season and the rest are 4.1 and over. You should stop talking.

  25. Being a mystery team won't matter if your offer is crap lol. Machado was gonna hold all the way out until he got 300.

  26. I don't want to hear the Sox linked to anyone big until the ink is dry. If they're in on the big guys, I want them to be the "Mystery Team" this winter.
