  2. Ok guys, this Frank Castillo guy DM me out of the blue again. Said that he trusts his source. Said he is very close to Marcell Ozuna. Also said that Marcell Ozuna arrived early this morning and has the intention of signing with the Sox. He then gave me his phone number if I had any more questions lol

  4. Speak for yourself. I want the team to be prudent. I want to win as many games as possibles for as long as a period of possible. Madrigal wins the team a lot more games with 162 games in 2027 than he does with 13 games in 2020.

  5. Man. fathom being the voice of reason around here is really throwing me off this off-season. Did you discover marijuana or something recently?

  7. I'm not sure why you're being critical of another reporter posting information that might not have been accurate.

  8. Only 3 pm in SD. Frank Castillo has nothing to worry about. His info is solid. The announcement has to be imminent.

  9. You mean the $73M deal for Grandal, which only 25 other teams in baseball have signed bigger deals than that? Perfect time for serving up the "Reinsdorf-isn't-cheap" meme.

  10. I am not making the comment based off of any inside information. I made the comment as a result of your penchant to overreact and to flippantly assess situations based off of emotion and an overwhelming feeling of unending dread. Wheeler was a nut punch. The Sox set the market and still didn't get him. They signed the best fit on the market in Grandal. They're still working on multiple fronts. They will make additional moves and they will address the majority of the team's holes if not all of them. Let the process play out. I remember years ago when people were calling for Hahn's head when there was no movement with the team on Monday night of the WM. Then they traded Sale and Eaton in consecutive days for a Cy Young Finalist, 5 WAR stud, a top 30 prospect, another top ten prospect, Lopez and Basabe. Relax. Let it play out. Even if you think owners are rich and should just give good players blank checks with no consideration of the risk of a contract of this magnitude we were never signing Strasburg.

  11. Agreed, cannot wait to watch our fiscally responsible 77 win ball club next year.

  13. Really hope today comes and goes without any Ozuna to Sox news. Then we’ll know the report was BS.

  14. Btw, everyone knows all the exciting moves are saved for Soxfest. No reason to panic.

  15. The White Sox have a four year window to contend as far as I see it right now. The rebuild was only jump started because the same front office that is in charge now was totally incapable of putting together a winning team around a core of cost controlled, extremely good players. Right now it looks like that is going to be the same exact issue facing the White Sox coming up soon as they have done very little to lengthen that window or boost the core from within. Robert was dropped in their lap and kudos to them they didn't blow that opportunity. I am not asking the White Sox to be intelligent and responsible (especially in free agency) I am asking them to win. This is an organization that doesn't even have the ability to scout and find enough international free agents to the point where they are routinely trading their surplus theoretical money away for basically nothing or to save real money. They are not a smart front office in all facets and I don't see how you could ever expect this particular group to be as they have never shown that they are currently. I really liked the Grandal signing, but he's also a 32 year old catcher whose value is heavily propped up by framing numbers. 32 years old is also the point in which most catchers start to decline in framing ability. He's still a fit on a team that severely lacked for on base guys and was among the worst at hitting right handed pitchers. Signing a free agent isn't going to "destroy the future of the team" and certainly not the third best one on the market. Every pitcher is a risk. Gerrit Cole could just as easily require Tommy John as Stephen Strasburg. The entire point of having a young cheap core is so that when the time is right you can go out and make a splash signing to supplement your team and put you over the top. If the White Sox are not to that point this year they sure as hell better be next year. By not signing good players the White Sox are not proving to be smart or future winners, they're just wasting time until the core gets too expensive to be able to sign anyone to a major deal.

  16. Think about Covey, Despagine, and all the other garbage that we threw out last year. Keuchel isn’t a replacement for Lopez.
    4 points
  17. I don't want Keuchel. But this is silly way to look at it. WAR is a counting stat. Kuechel sat out half the season.

  18. I guess we're just looking at this differently because you knew the contracts that Ryu/Bumgarner/Keuchel are getting and I don't. You also know that Ryu/Bumgarner/Keuchel (players the Sox could still conceivably get) are the next Shields and Strasburg/Cole (players the Sox won't get) are going to be healthy for three years and worth the million dollar a start (if they stay healthy for several years) price tag. It's almost like any scenario you address ends in the Sox being doomed.

  20. I think trading Madrigal would be a colossal mistake. I don’t really want to trade Vaughn either, but I’d already rather deal him than Madrigal. Nick is going to be special.

  21. Man, the new guys around here all seem to hate this team with a passion. Why even post if you’re primarily just going to be pessimistic and full of spite?

  26. $25M AAV for a good not great pitcher is in fact a huge sum of money. But you dismiss because it doesn't fit your narrative. You're not worth arguing with, continue to b**** away about nothing in early December if you so choose. No matter what the Sox do, you'll complain.

  27. I’m not sure if it’s a real thing, but if they end up dealing Cease because they were too cheap to sign a top dollar FA, I think I quit. They should not be trading away their young talent. They should be making offers that FAs can’t afford to refuse.

  29. Just like last year with Machado, “almost” signing a player to a big contract doesn’t count for anything. The fact is that the biggest contract they have handed out is $73 million which is nothing to be all that impressed by.

  30. Sox weren't played by Wheeler's camp. He and his agent are class people. Ultimately the man made a decision to forgo what is really just a few million of take home earnings for family reasons. Machado's agent was a scumbag lying and deceiving the Sox. Sox are at fault for not being able temper their expectations with that in mind.

  31. It would make sense to sign Ozuna if they were to deal Eloy for a SP. They wouldn't do that would they? Please someone tell me they wouldn't do that.

  33. Reinsdorf's comments still don't mesh with Morosi saying the Sox are waiting on a decision from Ozuna and Castellanos

  34. His stolen base totals and success rate went down at every level. He's not going to be a stolen base guy at the big league level and he'll hit at the bottom of the order.

  35. It wasn’t even remotely close. That trade was a massive win for the White Sox. McCarthy’s success came later. The Rangers got 2.2 fWAR out of McCarthy in that trade. The White Sox got 15.4 fWAR out of Danks before they extended him.

  37. I think sox fans should focus less on a RFer being an upgrade from what they had (historically inept) and focus more on how they could use their resources to make RF an area better than anyone in their division.

  41. Let's take on the Darvish contract for the Cubs.. We will also take Quintana too . The Cubs alone could realistically solve our SP issues.

  43. I would rather have Castellanos based on player alone.. The fact that Ozuna has a QO makes it an even larger gap... Unless we can somehow get him relatively cheap.
