If Dylan Covey gets any starts next season that aren’t due to multiple injuries to the rotation, Hahn should be fired.4 points

Wouldn't it be more accurate to use steamer for all players? C grandal 4.7 1b abreu 1.8 2b madrigal 1.7 SS anderson 2.0 3b moncada 3.8 Lf Jimenez 2.5 Cf robert 2.3 Rf mazara 1.4 Dh mccann 0.2 That would be 20.4 war Mccann will be worth less at dh but if vaughn comes up in june he could be worth 1.5 war the rest of the way. So that could be about 22 war which is still pretty good especially if you get another 2-3 war from the bench which would come out at 25 then. 25 war would have ranked 6th in the al last year behind the red sox and ahead of the rays.4 points

This is the single worst trade proposal I have seen in my 15+ years on the site. Like I know that will come off completely dickish, but I can’t believe any legit Sox fan would propose such garbage.4 points

This is where I’ve been at. Add a couple pitchers and they could win this poopy ass division4 points

I do think Keuchel happens, but a bit terrifying that starters keep going and we are nowhere to be found. Maybe we get lucky and they surprise us with Ryu.3 points

I obviously missed the memo on the great Zach Collins that barely Hit 250 in the minors and sucked when he was brought up. His defensive skills have been questioned and now his bat. Yet this board loves the guy. If we acquired Collins in a trade this board would crucify Hahn. I think a lot of people fall in love with minor league junk because they met them at a game or know his girlfriend. The guy hasnt proven a thing. He is a third catcher or a bat off the bench on his best day. He frightens no pitcher in this league and has a giant hole in his swing. I will take the established 30 hr guy with 100 RBI’s. Sandwich him in the middle of the order and let him go back to back with abreu or Jimenez. Your not a winner with Zach Collins as your dh.3 points

Using fWAR, here's the 2019 lineup vs. the 2020 lineup. 2019 C - James McCann, 2.3 1B - Jose Abreu, 1.9 2B - Yolmer Sanchez, 1.0 SS - Tim Anderson, 3.5 3B - Yoan Moncada, 5.7 LF - Eloy Jimenez, 1.9 CF - Adam Engel, 0.8 RF - Ryan Cordell, -.2 DH - Yonder Alonso, -1.3= 2020, using 2019 numbers and Steamer projects for rookies C - Yasmani Grandal, 5.2 (+2.9) 1B - Jose Abreu, 1.9 2B - Nick Madrigal, 1.7 (+.7) SS - Tim Anderson, 3.5 3B - Yoan Moncada, 5.7 LF - Eloy Jimenez, 1.9 CF - Luis Robert, 2.3 (+1.5) RF - Nomar Mazara, 0.5 (.7) DH - James McCann, 2.3 (+3.6) That lineup is 9.4 fWAR better. Now, Grandal, Anderson, Abreu, McCann, Jimenez and Moncada could all regress. But conceivably, Moncada, Anderson, Mazara and Jimenez could improve drastically. This is also assuming Madrigal and Robert have ok rookie seasons, when they'll both be capable of much more, especially Robert. The lineup upgrades alone are nearly enough to get this team to .500. That's not quite playoffs, but it's something to be positive about when we still have a couple months of offseason left.2 points

Isn't he destined for the NL cause he likes to hit? Whatever. I'm not wanting him that badly.2 points

I don't give a shit what they sign for just sign one of them.2 points

.687 OPS. The guy shouldn’t be in consideration for any sort of platoon situation. He can’t hit. He’s a defensive sub at best.2 points

Agree- Engel improved a lot with the bat last year. Another step up in improvement and he's a pretty good player.2 points

Yeah at this range I’d have liked it. Very confident he will be productive just not top line. Fans convinced themselves that since he wasn’t an ace he’ll be terrible but he’s still pretty valuable.2 points

There is a lot of angst and debate over a trade that is never going to happen. I appreciate many here who have used their imaginations to come up with trade proposals that would improve the club. However, it is also frustrating to think about them because the Sox have done so little. As it has been pointed out, there is still time in this off-season to do something. But so much of the prime talent is now gone. I am not waiting for or anticipating any big moves to be made by this franchise. If they do something to improve the roster, I will be happily surprised. But I will not believe it until it actually happens. and I won't speculate about it.2 points

Quin, using numbers to assist his point is showing how we are becoming a good team. The either majority or vocal minority of the board thinks the re-build has failed, and use White Sox fandom as like sports related self harm ?. more data driven logic and less moaning would make this a nicer place to spend free time.2 points

McCann gives me a great deal of comfort having that caliber of backup catcher/DH. I think he is a bargain and will provide the rest Grandal needs to stay fresh for the year. Short of an overpay...no interest in trading solid backup players.2 points

Player for player it’s pretty good. The money, maybe not. The idea of sending them Cease back for something valuable is pretty funny1 point

Sometimes it helps to, you know, know how to pitch. The big problem I have with a lot of these types of statistics, is that they over value things like spin rates, and velocity. They're turning pitchers back into throwers.1 point

Not sure I'm putting any stock into this at all. Chris Sale has been around a 4.4 his whole career. Max Scherzer hasn't had one above 4 in 3 years. Interesting statistic, but I don't believe it means much.1 point

It’s not a perfect science as it doesn’t account for things like deception. It generally is useful information, but it doesn’t favor Sale who has the highest SO/BB ratio in MLB history, and is tied for highest SO/9 in MLB history. I mostly posted it to show the massive drop in velocity per Caulfield’s request, but the steady decline in overall QOPA year after year has to be very concerning.1 point

This is a good post, and I definitely agree. I look forward to the day there is new ownership. I asked this in another thread the other day and didn't get much of a response. What is the succession plan when Reinsdorf passes? Will his family take it over? Is anyone in his family interested in running it? This has been explained to you many times, but I will try again. You don't get credit for offering the highest contact if the player signs elsewhere. But it shows the Sox willingness to be aggressive, and perhaps even overpay if the situation is right. That is a good sign. Spending big money to sign players who may improve the 2020 team, but will likely impair the 22-25 seasons when this thing is supposed to be at full speed likely isn't the wisest decision for a mid market team like the Sox. Its frustating in the moment because we all want to watch winning baseball sooner rather than later, but I also respect the patience, because if they blow their load now, that 22-25 window looks a lot less enticing if they don't bat close to 1.000.1 point

The thing I liked was he gets burned on advanced stats probably because he played in Arlington, but his home road splits are really similar. What his numbers have been really could be a floor. And as awful as people want to make them, they really aren’t all that bad. Lifetime, he is a .754 OPS which isn’t awful for a 24 year old. He averages 24 homers per 162. Whether he improves , who really knows, but the talent is there.1 point

Since when do teams get credit for offering a contract to a player but failing to sign them?1 point
-
Or, hey the Sox signed Grandal and came in second for their pitching target, rejoice. Why? The White Sox are a mid market team playing in a major market. They are the reason they are a mid market team. That is how they operate. I have defended JR a lot, and have written this a lot recently, it’s time for JR to sell. Sell it to someone who will refuse to be a mid market team. Will make fans expect winning. Expect signing the best players, and make them relevant again. When is the last time the Cubs lost out on a guy even after offering the most money because he wanted to play by his future in laws.? We have accepted mediocrity long enough. It is time to stop operating like a mom and pop shop, and act like a major league team playing in a world class city that players love coming to. If JR cannot operate like that, his toy should be taken away.1 point

I dunno guys. I think the rebuild is an A+ so far. I think the Sox have way more talent in the minors than most realize. While the top is indeed super heavy, I don’t think the system is top heavy if that makes sense. If Burger, Hansen, Burdi, Adolfo, Kopech & Rutherford etc. all suck this year then I may join the critics, but I just have a feeling that the farm depth is going to come roaring back this year. If that happens watch out because most of the ML roster is already filled.1 point

Ok, so the White Sox are finally coming out of the haze led by a 24 year old 3B who just put up a 141 OPS+ and a 24 year old budding ace who just put up a 134 ERA+ with an 11.6 SO9, and you want to trade these men?1 point
