This thread doesn't have jack shit to do about Mazara. I've discussed Mazara with you at length and have zero interest in doing it more, because you just ignore everything that doesn't fit into your box. As I've told you several times, I don't love the Mazara move either, but he costs half of what Avi does on an AAV basis, requires half the commitment (Mazara can be non-tendered at no cost after 2020), is 4 years younger, and he rakes RHP, which Avi does not. Mazara isn't an exciting move, but I like it more now than I did right after it happened. His 2nd half of 2019 was pretty nice, and he could be a nice bounce back candidate. I prefer him at the dollars and years many times more than committing close to $20M AAV to dogshit OFs in Ozuna and Castellanos.12 points

This right here. I am much more upset with the Sox that they seemingly had zero Plan B and instead are moving their "contention window" back a year because of it. If your rebuild is centered around 1 player, your rebuild is probably doomed to fail. I don't fault Wheeler for going to Philly. He had his reasons - which NONE of us know with 100% certainty. Acting like more money was the deal breaker is blind to other factors. He very well may have preferred Phillies playoff odds to the Sox. NL vs. AL. East Coast vs. Central U.S. Vicinity to his future wife's family. We simply don't know for sure. The Sox lack of urgency to move on to the next best option is much more worrisome to me than their 2nd place finish.5 points

For those up in arms about my field of dreams joke, it was just that, a joke. I like Nicky a lot and I didn’t even send it to him directly. Also, as the Sox are currently constructed (mid December) a scenario where Judge and Delmonico playing the OF and Covey and Cole starting is just a couple of injuries away. Also it is more of a joke based on an article that WSD wrote when they announced this game. He said this game proves the White Sox are done messing around. And the field of dreams proves that. It’s all in good fun! I love the White Sox more than you can ever know. I’ve cheered them when they didn’t deserve it and I sure as heck can heckle them when they deserve it5 points

Do you really expect everyone to have the same values at you? I can respect that you don’t care that much about winning & losing and simply enjoy the sport, but for many of us the White Sox winning is what gives us joy. And if ownership is not committed to winning, then I’m going to limit my financial support of the organization because our values are not aligned. Not sure why that’s so hard to understand.5 points

Mr. Giolito is pretty great. Though with the trash heap that White Sox twitter has become, I hope he keeps his interactions with the fan-base to a minimum right now.4 points

Fine with me. He completely collapsed towards the end of last year. I do look forward to the meltdown on here now.4 points

Let me lay out both sides of the issue here. From all accounts, the Sox were enamored with Wheeler and had some concerns with MadBum, Ryu, & Keuchel. They believed that Wheeler would have provided value deep into his contract, whereas they considered Ryu & Keuchel to be more near-term plays (I think MadBum was never considered a fit). Their ultimate fear is signing someone like Ryu or Keuchel a year early and then they end up sucking right when the rest of the team is ready to win. I think that’s a completely fair point of view, but one that should have required two courses of action. Either a win at all costs bid of Wheeler (which theoretically would have meant offering the Corbin deal) or more reasonably having some sort of backup plan in place to acquire a stopgap without dealing too deeply from your prospect capital. I really don’t have much of a issue with how they approached Wheeler, but I think they completed failed if they did not have solid backup plans in place, which at the moment is seems they did not. I know we all have different expectations for next year, but at a very minimum the Sox need to have a roster that can challenge for a playoff if enough young guys proceed with their development. And that means adding two starters, one at least of the mid rotation variety. Wheeler can not be used as an excuse for failing to get this done. I’ve given Hahn the benefit of the doubt plenty of times in the past, but to me failing to add the starters he’s talked up for months now would be one of his biggest fuckups as GM and I would lose all confidence in his ability to lead this organization going forward.4 points

Nova was a much, much better pitcher than Covey or Fulmer last year, but you’d rather have watched some of the worst pitchers in baseball make up Novas 190 IP last year because you get that much satisfaction out of the white Sox having another 8 million in their pockets?3 points

Dallas Keuchel is now too old for the White Sox to sign. He was drafted 8 months after the team’s last playoff appearance. The team still has the same 3 dopes making the decisions.3 points

I mean sure... If you don't look at potential.. Mazara is 24. Avi is 28 I think.. Mazara has and has always had far more potential than Avi.. But yeah, If Mazara remains the same player than sure, we acquired the left hand version... But Mazara offers way more potential and that isn't debatable.3 points

You currently have 11 laughing emojis so I think alot of people get that it was just a joke...and a very funny one at that. Keep up the good work. Like I said before, it is a long offseason and we need some laughs.3 points

Happy that Avi continues to not be on the White Sox.3 points

Rooting for Avi. But glad the Sox weren't as anxious to bring him back as about 25% of the posters here were.3 points

On the third day of Soxmas, they did not give to me... 3 offensive talents 2 starting pitchers and a shot at contending in '203 points

If I had to guess, kopech will be on the opening day roster. If not I imagine a grievance will be filed immediately. And while that would lose, I'm guessing the sox want to avoid the drama all together.3 points

Im eagerly awaiting Rick Hahn and the FO shills to explain how King Felix is actually a good thing because it's an upgrade over Despaigne and Covey.2 points

All these pitchers people b****ing about would become another Nova fiasco. Tired of this crap. Yes, I rather Covey and Fulmer take on the piñata treatment then pissing $8 million down the barrel of pitching junk.2 points

I'm glad to learn that you didn't send it to Nicky. However, it's still out there and easy enough for him to see. I hope that he would take as just good natured humor. One can imagine that it wouldn't be the most welcoming thing for him to view. He seems like such a nice kid and I love his story.2 points

Actually I think you can love the Sox and still think that Field of Dreams post was very clever. It is a long offseason and I love to laugh. That post helped with both of those things for me.2 points
-
Perhaps, but I fail to see the humor. Moreover, how can it be both "wrong" and "true"? Could have just as easily put a couple of Yankee bench players, or even Minor Leaguers, next to Giolito & Moncada, or Eloy. That would be comparable. If anyone hates this franchise that much, why not just root for another team? I grew up hating the Yankees, back in the days when Al Lopez' Go, Go Sox had to swallow finishing in 2ND place, behind the Yankees, almost every year. I'm excited about the youth on this team, and am patiently waiting to see what else the front office can do to assemble a competitive roster. I like our players, both for their baseball and their character. If a fair weather fan doesn't share that view, please just go root for another team. This negativity is getting pretty old. Condemning the front office, for a "failed" off season, before Christmas, is just unfair. It may not end up being as satisfying as we had hoped, but it's too soon to judge. My comment is not meant to be directed at anyone, in particular, but rather toward the general tone of negativity. Pessimism and skepticism are one thing, but unfair and premature complete condemnation, are just ridiculous.2 points

I disagree....his spin rate would be awful in that dry weather and with the size of the ballparks in that Afghan league his ERA would skyrocket. Plus it is not close enough to New Jersey.2 points

Sox twitter is freaking horrible right now. It’s worse than it was after Manny’s decision.2 points

The primary reason is he's going to be on an innings limit in 2020, and if he starts the year in the majors unimpeded, he'll be shut down by August 1. No thanks. The extra year of service is just an added benefit to handling this the correct way.2 points

If they are dragging this another year just sell the team to someone willing to run it like a major league team in a major market. If this offseaon is a wrap from a trying to be as good as you can be perspective, take the money you have been banking and the final sale price of the team and go away.2 points

It's easy to make a bad team mediocre. It's difficult to make a mediocre team good and extremely difficult to make a good team great. I have zero faith in this front offices ability to make this team good let alone great.2 points

Waiting until 2021 is a loser's mentality and Hahn would be stupid to do so. If we was this hell bent on acquiring a young stud pitcher or nothing of note, then he should have offered Wheeler another 10m. Also, if we aren't ready yet, then why sign Grandal and extend Abreu?2 points

I'm fine going with one bargain bin type starter, but they must either trade for or sign at least one quality option.2 points

Unless McCann or Collins are used in a trade...no reason to have Encarnacion since the DH position is already filled.2 points

I'm amazed that there are still people who think Adam Engel deserves a role on an MLB team when the only thing he does well is run fast. Sure, he "hit lefties well" last year, but if you really are placing that much weight on an 89 PA sample, don't be shocked next year when he regresses. He's .252/.298/.381 (83 wRC+) against lefties in his career.2 points

I remember the good old days when I did this exercise before 2015 and convinced myself that they were in a good position that season.2 points
