  1. Holy hell, learn other statistics and evaluation tools. Especially when scouting teenagers.

  2. Thanks all, I'm (as well as @SoxAce and the rest of the Rodriguez STANs) are hoping for big things from Jose this year. THAT was your entire takeaway from the article, nothing else? LOL man, you stay true to your shtick that's for sure.

  4. In a vacuum, no. With the existing long-term salaries on the Hawks? Yes. Ask Toronto how having 3 forwards making $11M annually is working for them. Look at it this way: DeBrincat+Saad or Panarin? If the Hawks kept Panarin and paid him they'd lose DeBrincat, Strome or both. DeBrincat has replaced most of the offense that Panarin brought. The Hawks have fallen off. It would have happened no matter what. Once the backdiving deals were eliminated, this is just the salary cap doing its job. They've had to make some tough decisions. Regardless of whether or not Jokiharju was here, it wouldn't matter anyway. The Hawks are very bad. There was absolutely nothing based in reality they could have done to avoid this dropoff. I'm not arguing that the Joki/Nylander trade wasn't bad(it is and always was) I just think "disaster" is going too far. Nylander could still develop into a useful player and Jokiharju is a middle pairing defenseman at best. There were a multitude of reasons why he got traded. He should have been traded, just not for Alex Nylander. BTW, I was very vocal on the Hawks taking chances on guys like Nylander and Puljujarvi this summer, just not at the price that they paid. They'd have been better off if they traded the #2/3 for Nylander and kept Jokiharju, while not having Shaw. If you want to talk about an awful trade, you can start with the Shaw one. If you want to talk about a disaster of a trade, there you have it.

  5. I think if he doubles his 3% K rate to 6% in the big leagues, keeps using the whole field to hit and plays great D he's going to be a great piece for the Sox for a long time.

  6. The exact length of the deal is unknown but includes multi-year mutual vesting options. The Riverdale actress bride also had a tattoo of her betrothed attached to her lower left booty-call region.

  7. The Joker-Nylander trade is an absolute disaster. Tony knows I'm a pretty optimistic Hawks fan and this was beyond awful. Injuries have hurt this team but in all honesty, if the Hawks even had average goaltending, they would be with Detroit at the bottom of the league. It is that bad.

  11. Need a RHRF to platoon with Mazara. Top three (3) candidates listed. Hunter Pence FA Revamped his entire swing after a disastrous 2018 season after seven very successful years with Giants and two championships. Fan favorite who works very hard at the game, in fact, so hard that he went to the Dominican Republic after the bad season and completely changed and worked on a new swing. The result he signed a $2M contract with the Texas Rangers and had a very good season hitting against LHP with an OPS of over 1.000. For the money Pence may be a bargain and veteran winning presence that could take the cake for a great value sign here to platoon with Mazara in right. Pence actually made the All-Star team last year. Experienced winning ball player. Great leader and teammate. Excellent communicator. One of the most underrated players of the past decade. Does not fit the image of the perfect baseball player whose style of play looks a bit strange but the man gets the job done the offensively and defensively with an accurate arm and is truly committed to his craft. An all-time San Francisco Giants legend. The kind of player and persona that might go over big with Chicago fans and in the clubhouse. Very good guy. Deep desire to always do his best and win and find silver linings even in a loss. One of the most passionate players in the game whose play and preparation are an example to his team. Might really fill the bill. Yasiel Puig FA Tremendous talent but comes with the kind of baggage that may or may not scare off Uncle Jerry who once had Dennis Rodman with the Bulls. One of the very best defensive RF's in the game and arguably the best throwing arm since the likes of Roberto Clemente and Ichiro Suzuki. Was the most popular player while on the Dodgers. Since becoming a father he seems more responsible. Cuban connection cannot be overlooked and with a competitive audience environment in Chicago with the Cubs Puig is a headliner that could bring in numbers of fans. If this is indicative of change in his life Puig rented a helicopter and flew to a Camp for Jewish boys (Camp Simcha) who are ill and led one of the most memorable days any athlete has done out of love for others. There are risks with a clubhouse that is considered excellent and no one wants to rock the boat. Puig brings an aura to the game that has potential much like Rodman. Note-Puig is fluent in English. Since signing Edwin Encarnacion Mazara is going to be a platoon RF with Puig, Pence, Pillar OR L. Garcia and/or Engel). Possibility he could end up in Japan. He trained this off-season with a Sumo Wrestler Kevin Pillar FA Simply one of the very best defensive outfielders in the game top talent for CF but plays anywhere and with a high level of superior defense to earn him the nickname 'Superman'. Played for a number of years with the Blue Jays and was traded to Giants where he had his best offensive numbers of his career though much can be related to juiced ball. Still his defense is among the best in the game. All said I imagine there are clubs looking for a defensive stud in CF so I have my doubts of a White Sox sign here but if anyone thinks Adam Engel can go get it watch Pillar. Amazing he has never won a Gold Glove. Was surprised the Giants decided not to sign him. Inspiring player. One of the above list appears likely otherwise Leury Garcia or possibly Adam Engel which beyond a defensive replacement is at this point shaky. Then someone for the Bullpen likely one and maybe two via FA or one from trade. Nonetheless experience in pen for a good team can be essential. All said is age a factor for two-year deals? Update included. Will Smith, FA age 35 last with Astros. (3 years for $24M with Nationals) He gone! Craig Stammen, FA age 35 last with Padres. (3 years for $12M with Padres) He gone! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Daniel Hudson, FA age 33 to start season last with Nationals and former fifth round choice of White Sox traded a long time ago to Arizona for Edwin Jackson. Steve Cishek, FA age 33 last with Cubs. Had made public statements given the choice he would like to end up with the Red Sox. Unusual submarine motion. Collin McCugh, FA age 32 last with Astros. Brandon Kintzler, FA age 35 last with Cubs. Pedro Strop, FA age 34 last with Cubs. Ivan Nova, FA age 33 Is White Sox starter a candidate with no bullpen experience? et al. And/or potential trade for a reliever such as Andrew Miller, age 34 currently with Cardinals. (1-year at $12M for 2020) Hefty numbers for a LHRP. Ken Giles, age 29 currently with Blue Jays ($6.3M for 2019 and FA 2021) Josh Hader, age 25 (FA 2024) Long-shot. Yankees would be favorites. Or another potential reliever. Shame injuries hit Ian Hamilton (#11 draft choice) and Ryan Burr (#5 draft choice of Arizona acquired via trade) that ended their seasons. Hamilton is short and Burr is tall. Could one or both emerge in 2020? Hamilton showed chops two seasons ago for Birmingham and Charlotte prior to auto accident and getting his in jaw in dugout which resulted in season ending surgery. Wipeout slider. Burr throws straight over the top. Is Matt Foster a sleeper? Fairly consistent numbers and throws strikes. Stocky bulldog type. (#20 draft choice) Last chance for Carson Fulmer if he can get some spin on the ball otherwise his days with the organization are winding down. (#1 draft choice) Is same for Dylan Covey? (#1 draft choice unsigned of Milwaukee and drafted again as #4 of Oakland. Acquired via Rule 5 claim) Jose Ruiz was pretty poor last season. Former catcher (signed by San Diego) who became a relief pitcher. So far has shown little in MLB games. Decent MILB numbers but the show is different. Does not hide ball well. Watch Tyler Johnson for later season. Not easy for hitter to pick up. (#5 draft choice) Zack Burdi who still has not gotten it back since TJ surgery. As discussed in prior post does not hide ball well. (#1 draft choice)

  14. Now we've solved the mystery of why Tatis was traded...his numbers in AZ (extended spring training) were fed into a spreadsheet that spit out "strikes out too much, doesn't walk enough." Boom. All of White Sox L.A. prospects gone. "You don't walk off the island," as they say in the Dominican. Statniks/OPS devotees unhappy.

  15. Lmao what are you talking about. The 90s were infinitely more dramatic for the Bills. They went to and lost four straight Super Bowls. They missed the playoffs for six straight years in the 80s

  17. This was one post from a Twins Fan-"atic", if you read through the posts on the site I saw a lot of compliments towards our Sox and worried Twins fans. Of course most are going to believe in their team over ours and why wouldn't they? Except for the "Black Out" game I can't recall too many victories over the Twins, who have had our number for years. Hopefully that's about to change starting this year.....I'll still keep my fingers crossed.

  22. I was pretty adamant about Rodriguez in the FutureSox thread most of the year. Hell I made a thread about him towards the end of the year here. Needless to say I like his start and the tools.

  23. I also dream of Moncada, Robert, Eloy, Timmy, Lucas, Kopeck & Yasmani being like the Big Red Machine & those Dodgers you mentioned. With luck & health, the pitching staff could, I said could, be something a couple rungs below the 90s Braves. Remember, I started this that I said it was my dream. Dream of greatness!!!!

  24. Can confirm that the Twins are not at all hopeful in regards to JD. They still need a 1B or 3B, though.

  25. There is a lot is symmetry and balance to our team as it now stands. I , for one, prefer that they do not risk upending that balance or the character of the team by signing a fukup like Puig or bringing back Yolmer the assclown. If Madrigal continues to show that he can play great defense and hit during Spring Training, I would bring him up on Opening Day despite potentially losing a year of contractual control. I said "potentially" because the Sox can always choose to extend him later this season or down the road. Having Madrigal in the starting lime-up on Opening Day means that the Sox don't have to futz with signing some infielder to start for a month, or making Leury platoon in the IF and OF which could dilute his effectiveness. So.... come out of the gate on Opening Day with Robert and Madrigal in the line-up. Develop team chemistry from the start, rack up as many wins as possible in the first two months, and bury the sh1t teams in the Division right off the bat.

  26. He was the #4 ranked international prospect available at the time. Yolbert also has an elite (or what scouts described, special) glove. If Colas signs in July, he'll be 2 months away from being 22 himself. There's also the comparison of him being in the Japan minor leagues to Sanchez who played in the Cuban league. Honestly, I have no idea what the league Colas played in compares to. FYI, I already acknowledged Colas likely has the higher ceiling, Sanchez likely the higher floor. Was just stating I believe Colas is much less advanced when I meant by better coming out (which goes back to me saying I have no idea how the Japanese minor league Colas played in compares).

  33. Could you imagine if he just does his 2018 numbers? 32 starts, almost 190 innings, and an ERA under 4? Sign me up. Hopefully the baseball has been normalized. I think that would be to the Sox benefit.

  34. Not worth it for one extra year, unless Hahnny thinks he will be an elite player worthy of a 200m deal.

  37. This might be the way to go. In general I am a huge proponent of extensions and RH has proved he knows how to sell them. In this case I want Madrigal on the OD lineup and you can still extend him in a year. My kneejerk reaction would be to extend him now but I do see very little to lose by bringing him up for OD and waiting to extend.
    1 point
  38. Or they could just go off script, and bring him up on Day 1 without a long term deal. Less likely, but some teams have done that recently.

  39. My comment was from years of PTSD in the 2000s when we would go 4-14 every season against the Twins due to their ridiculous dome and cheap hits. Their lucky hitters slapped the shit out of us and I will always hate the Twins more than any other organization in baseball because of it.
