  1. Do you feel some obligation to just shit on everything that anyone on this website gets excited about? Not needed.

  2. It's not even about that and you know it.

  3. Just STFU with this BS. Why is this stuff on Soxtalk? No reason to promote this kind of garbage. Hate and discrimination isn't political; it's morally wrong. Hating Muslims or blacks isn't a "right or left issue;" it's a piece of shit and not piece of shit issue. As is the case with most ignorant racist pieces of trash, proof and facts don't matter. Schilling has promoted violence against people different from him or those who have disagreed with him. He spread stereotypes about people who he didn't understand or agree with. He promoted the lynching of media members... He spread some perverted connotation that transgender people were predators. Schilling is trash. I don't understand many things in life, but I don't draw conclusions because I'm scared, ignorant or naive.

  7. Exactly. Leury with a little Engel sprinkled is a perfect weak side platoon mate for Mazara. We're talking about one season here. Plus, the FA market isn't exactly teaming with guys that rake lefties, can play an acceptable RF and can be had on a reasonable contract.

  8. Also interesting that the first person to apologize is in the same boat as Fiers. A. Not on the team B. Couldn't directly benefit from said cheating,

  9. I never understood why Sox fans were jumping off the ledge when the Donaldson signing was announced. Sure he’s a great player but he’s on the older side and has been more injury prone in recent years. He helps them for sure but by no means did that signing clinch the division for the Twins. The Sox have as good of a chance as anyone.

  10. Hunter Pence to platoon in RF and get at bats in LF or DH if Eloy, Abreu, or EE goes down for any amount of time.

  11. Give me all the shares of Scooter Gennett is he costs $5mm. He can give you shares at 2B. He's also played a few games in the OF in his career. To me a Zobrist has no upside, Gennett does. Gennett can bounce around your diamond like a poor mans Zobrist defensively, but has the upside with the bat. If not him, then give me a high upside pitcher opportunity ala Walker or a couple high upside guys for even less money. Bucholz types.

  12. I am personally fine with Garcia as the platoon mate with Mazara. I also am a pretty big fan of Mendick so I am fine with him for 3 weeks before Madrigal comes up. My choice would be for a Relief pitcher/swing man. I'd love doing a buy low on Pedro Strop OR even trying Tijuan Walker as a swing man. Put him in the bullpen but can also start in a pinch.

  13. 1. All prospects have risk 2. There are more All-stars in baseball than 70 grades given out by FG's by nearly 20 times. 3. Scouting should try to be right, not cautiously optimistic 4. It's OK to be wrong about a guy and evaluators need to get over that fear. 5. Robert is a 55 on FG; so he's no where near a 70. 6. Every prospect has concerns, and in what world does Robert have a .310 OBP? He is projected for a .317 (still low) but he was running 340-380 last year. And yes, no prospect is perfect so Robert deserves a 70; his ceiling is elite. 70 isn't too high for generational tools. This thought process that if he doesn't pan out, then my grade looks stupid is naive. Luis Robert is projected to be a 3 WAR player in the MLB as a 22 year old rookie; if that's not a 70 talent, then nothing is. It's one of the rosiest projections for a prospect I've seen.

  14. Leury should be just fine, as a platoon partner for Mazara. He hits lefties well enough to cover those games, as his performance over the last 3 years indicates: AVG OBP SLG .302 .341 .349 .333 .349 .444 .311 .344 .443 Given his speed and versatility, he is probably as good as some of the other names, which have been suggested, in the limited role of Mazara's platoon partner, especially when considering the cost. I'm much more interested in additional pitching depth, than I am concerned about acquiring a guy to take 100 + at bats from Mazara. In fact, I'd kind of like to know if Mazara can learn to hit lefties better. If Nomar realizes his potential vs. RH pitching, it would be helpful to know if he would still need a platoon partner, going forward, should the Sox have an interest in extending him.

  16. Fegan’s comment is interesting. If Zobrist has anything left in the tank and still wants to play baseball in Chicago for one more season, he would be ideal. Switch-hitter who is better against lefties and can play both 2B and RF.

  17. Agreed. Very close on WAR but Donaldson (34) is 3 years older than Grandal (31).

  19. Abreu will be younger at the end of his current contract than EE is today before the team has played one game in 2020. Yet you are concerned about locking Jose into the DH spot in his years 33, 34, and 35, whereas no such similar concern with a 37 year old EE this year, or a 38 year old EE next year. Why the aging concern for one but not the other? Seems like if anyone is going to fall off the cliff, it would be the 37 year old before the 33 year old.

  23. I suspect if the payroll jumps $60M, or 50% more than where it is today, between now and two years from now, the team will have acquired both that "extra bullpen piece" AND "nice veteran bench piece" you're concerned about. No worries there. With the cost certainty in place over the next three years, Abreu's contract will not hinder any efforts to acquire whatever is needed over this time frame. Period. His contract is not overlapping any of the big paydays of the young core, and the payroll is still low enough that the team can go after the Betts' of the world if they so choose.

  24. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/astros/article/Brian-Cashman-Yankees-guard-Astros-sign-stealing-15001595.php https://www.si.com/mlb/2020/01/24/dallas-keuchel-apologizes-astros-sign-stealing-scandal You have to look at Keuchel’s comments in a bigger context. He’s still only one year removed from the team he spent his career with...and piling on now does what, exactly? The horses are already out of the barn. At least he has the guts to talk to the media at all. Everyone else is running away from responsibility and simply trying to protect themselves, other than Beltran...who’s no longer an active player. Would Fiers have done this were he still an active member of their roster? Seems impossible, he had an axe to grind, so he got his revenge but he is still far from a hero in the eyes of the players, far from it.

  25. Keuchel would have been viewed positively if he just apologized and said nothing else. His Fiers comment is awful.

  26. I hate this response. I understand the sanctity of a clubhouse just as well as people in the MLB. I get it... and anyone who has played at a high level in the past 25 years has witnessed cheating (whether PED's or whatever) and certainly didn't speak up against their own. But, now that it has come to light there's just no reason to cite the sanctity of the clubhouse as something that bothers you about Fiers. What Fiers did was right, and it doesn't mean Keuchel was wrong (disagree with Balta here) but him not accepting that it was wrong and it's OK to tell the truth about cheating in a clubhouse bothers me a little. I understand 100% why people didn't come forward, and I don't believe it reflects negatively on everyone of them (we're all moralistically superior in our own minds than in the face of reality), but I believe it reflects negatively on you if you get angry at the one person being honest.

  27. Donaldson >> Than any White Sox edition this offseason. He's a fantastic player.. The goal is that in years 3-4 he hurts them. But he makes them better next year for sure. It just hurts our chances in 2020.

  28. I would venture a guess that they were making indedendent "craft beer" before you even knew the term. Yes they were better before they were bought out but damn dude. Look at how many craft brews are available at Sox Park. I'm not even the biggest Goose Island fan but there's no reason to shit all over a local brand repping our Sox across the city.

  30. I'm a beer snob, I admit it and I know it's an asshole trait. I drink Fin Du Monde religiously, Founders (pretty much anything, because for my money that's the best brewery in the world), and in general I love belgium tripels and quads. I don't enjoy drinking a lot of low ABV beers because of the calories and it makes me feel bloated and full. I like high ABV beers in general; have 2 or 3 and set for the night. Triple Karm, Fin Du Monde, St Bernardus are three of my favorites. Fin du Monde the best beer in the world for my money and imo. I think Goose Island is too passive, doesn't take a lot of chances/risks, and tend to make safe beers. I like Founders because they make amazing beer (CBS, KBS, All Day) but they also make a lot of creative beers and take chances.

  34. So he didn't insinuate that trans people are acting that way to abuse women and be creepy? Gotcha. He didn't insinuate that Muslims = Nazi's? Gotcha. He didn't insinuate that media members should be lynched because they don't agree with his views? Gotcha. Spare me your bullshit. Thanks. You'd be nuts to think Curt Schilling doesn't like Muslims and discriminates against them? My lord you are a blowhard clown. "Just retweeting an edgy shirt." STFU. When you have tons of followers, retweeting a promotion of violence isn't just doing something edgy; it's a promotion of the act to those who may be less "stable and reasonable." Enough with your excuses. Your blinders are on, and I'm not going to waste another second of my life going back and forth with someone promoting this BS. Nothing funnier than when someone who is close minded, racist and bigoted is critical of those who are accepting by saying "why don't you accept me!"

  35. imo they should make their biggest focus on scoring more runs than the opponent. I think that will give them pretty good odds in winning any given game!

  36. So anyone that supports trump is a racist. Do you not see the irony in the close mindedness of your position? its on soxtalk because idiots like yourself seem to want to smear a guy and misrepresent statements he’s made to make him out to be worse than he is. I didn’t start this discussion. I agree discrimination is morally wrong. We’re not debating that. We’re debating whether what schilling has publicly stated amounts to discrimination. I think you have to be completely nuts to come to that conclusion. the only group schilling has arguably promoted violence against was journalists, and even that was him just retweeting an edgy shirt. Not something any sensible person would believe he was truly advocating for. If you think he has advocated for actual violence against any group of people in society, than it should be pretty easy to find a quote of his where he clearly does so.

  38. I think our plan is to actually platoon Mazara with Engel. They may feel Engel hit lefties decently last year and his defense would make our outfield defense passable when he plays.

  47. Racists are scumbags. Schilling has said a lot of racist shit. Racism isn't fucking subjective. I'm not going to get into this with you, because I already know your stance on the subject. I'm disappointed that in America in 2020, we still have to litigate whether or not racism is bad.
