Just read that Covey signed with the Rays organization. The fact that they signed him says they see something in him. I fully expect him to become Verlander3 points

Tomorrow, we can officially say baseball starts this month and the season starts next month. We survived the rebuild and it seemed to go by quickly, now that it is over.2 points

You know we need baseball to start when the hottest thread here is about a Cubs player2 points

Why are you dopes talking about trading Moncada? What is wrong with you people?2 points

Brooks is amazing and has been highly responsive in the past via email. He once offered to take my father and I through the executive office and onto the field three hours before a home game just because I had asked him if we could do anything special for my dad to offer gratitude for him supporting my life long White Sox obsession from California. So my Dad and I visited Chicago, saw 8 home games, and for the last one Brooks treated us like White Sox family. Amazing.2 points

MLB posted a video today that got me thinking: Eloy hit .267/.315/.513 (.828 OPS, 117 OPS+, 116 wRC+) in a rookie year that was often interrupted by injury, rusty periods following injury, and so on. When he was healthy and recovered from whatever ailment he had been dealing with (as in, ~2 weeks after returning from an IL stint), he was awesome. He seems to have bulked up over the winter, and his swing looks great at the end of that video. Defense aside (I think he'll improve to the point where he's at least playable), what do you expect from him next year? Something like .270/.320/.500 may be a reasonable baseline, but if he stays healthy, I think he's gonna take a massive leap. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up .280/.340/.560 with 45 home runs (he was on a 41 home run per 162 pace last year), for example. Is that crazy?1 point

Hey guys. New to the board. Hopefully I didn't miss this already being posted, but ESPN just released their lineup rankings going into 2020. The White Sox are ranked #13. Seems much lower than I would expect. There are also several that seem very over-ranked at the top. What are your thoughts? Link: Way Too Early 2020 MLB Starting LIneup Rankings - ESPN Comments about the White Sox: 13. Chicago White Sox (86.1) 1. Yoan Moncada (B) 2. Luis Robert (R) 3. Jose Abreu (R) 4. Edwin Encarnacion (R) 5. Eloy Jimenez (R) 6. Yasmani Grandal (B) 7. Nomar Mazara (L) 8. Tim Anderson (R) 9. Nick Madrigal (R) Contact: 16 | Patience: 26 | Power: 9 | Speed: 7 | Balance: 1 Core hitters: 3 | Lineup holes: 0 Last season, gaping lineup and roster holes wiped out any hopes Chicago had of rising to at least mediocrity. In terms of everyday players, those holes have been filled by the White Sox's frenzied offseason. This projection is exciting on the face of it -- a powerful, athletic group with the kind of balance that should allow Rick Renteria to run out the same group just about every day, with Mazara's weakness against lefties being the exception. Encarnacion's age is a concern. So is the number of free swingers. But Chicago also has the dynamic group of Robert, Moncada, Jimenez and Madrigal, all of whom have better days ahead and a hopefully steep growth curve.1 point

You mean you're not interested in talking about trading 24 year old Yoan Moncada who isn't a free agent until after the 2023 season? How dare you!1 point
-
And furthermore; If Yoan Mocada, Giolito, Kopech, Anderson, and Luis Robert are 200-300+ million dollar players - with Vaughn and Mad at 100-200+ - then the White Sox are fielding a historically great team.1 point
-
No, I wouldn't entertain any trade for the 24 year old franchise cornerstone entering the contention window. You realize prospects aren't guaranteed successes, right? The fact that the Sox hit homeruns on all their big trades was as much luck as it was skill/evaluation. That doesn't typically happen. There have been countless stars traded for complete crap over the last 2 decades of baseball.1 point

I'm going to get really aggressive with this projections, but I see: 305/355/6051 point

White Sox haven't even made the playoffs yet, and fans are having in-depth discussions about trading a 24 year old budding Superstar to get younger unproven players. Someone please make it stop.1 point

Yeah, the Cubs shouldn't be trading Bryant. The fact that you think they should, while generating elite revenue levels, in the name of saving a couple tax dollars over the next three years is absolutely hilarious. If you don't want to invest in the best in the business, then you shouldn't be in the business.1 point

I'd take it a step further and ask, why the heck are we comparing the White Sox to the Indians, and why do we want White Sox ownership to act like the cheap ass Indians? Indians likely could have won a World Series if they stopped sitting on their damn wallet, and actually invested in the on the field product. Some Sox fans are envious of teams like the Indians and Rays. Who the hell wants to be a fan of a team that has a revolving door of players and talent. Part of being a fan is gaining a connection to players and people. Excusing ownership for being cheap has always baffled me.1 point

One thing he needs to stop doing is guess hitting. He's way too good of a hitter to be doing anything but sitting dead red and adjusting to off speed. No more 2-2 and 3-2 fastballs taken or weakly fouled off or whiffed on because he's looking for off speed. Now I think the injury had a role in that, as you noted. It's hard to get hurt midseason when everybody is already well match fit. Easier to come back in say May or June.1 point

If you have video and audio of your Pacer appearance I'd include that too. They will still audition you I'm sure but a video will get you taken seriously faster.1 point

When I read the thread title, my first thought was, “I’m expecting a huge offensive season...something like 45 bombs and a .900 OPS.” Then I read your post and saw you had the exact same prediction. Great minds.1 point
-
I'm gonna hate doing this prediction game this year because the first question in reply to any of them is "What's the ball like"? The MLB jumped by nearly 20% last year - if the whole league went down by that much because they stop using the Happy Fun Ball, then you're talking a 34 home run pace instead of a 40 home run pace over 162.1 point

I’m thinking 40+ HRs for Eloy and Edwin, and they’ll be lighting up that scoreboard at GRate often!1 point
