I’m feeling very positive toward a lot of our operations in this last month. Between the coaching assignments, hearing Shirley talk, the @Y2Jimmy0 article with the new biometrics guy, and now staring at a possibly very productive J2, all of the things that worried me most at least seem different and maybe proof that last years class just got away from them.4 points

Isn't it obvious that the Sox would give up Gio Gonzalez thus having had him 3 times without ever playing for the Sox ? ?3 points

The whole thing was a joke. MLB investigated the bare minimum and then tried to sweep it under the rug. What they reported was the tip of the iceburg and they wanted no part of doing anymore than that. Every god damn person in that entire organization knew exactly what was going on. Lots of really smart people suddenly playing dumb. They should all be banned from baseball and Crane should have been forced to sell the team.3 points

Our guy Sleepy Harold wrote a great focus piece on 18-year-old Panamanian outfielder Benyamin Bailey. Read his writing HERE2 points

A good Spring and a moderate extension will have Madrigal with us on OD. No one gains from prolonging the inevitable.2 points

So they basically got another 2nd round pick for just money. Sounds like a nice deal then. It’s always a good thing to add another young arm with upside into the system.2 points

Would've been the top pitcher in the 2019 international class. Valued in 2nd range in the MLB draft. Very similar to Matthew Thompson and Andrew Dalquist2 points

It shouldn't. Bonus amounts aren't know yet. Sox should have close to $6 million. This deal is $1.5 million and I have them on 6 more signings at $1.8 million. That should leave them close to $3 million more2 points

Some deets about him in this older article. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/prospect-dispatch-cuban-right-hander-norge-carlos-vera/2 points

I would disagree. He gave them the largest possible fine, the worst punishment ever for the draft and the GM and the manager was fired. This is the worst punishment ever for cheating. He couldn't really go to much further than that without problems with the owners who are his "bosses."2 points

Actually, it is good that the White Sox acquired a worse player in Nomar Mazara. Someone will be by shortly to explain why.2 points

They'll win 60/lose 60 and RIcky will probably lose another 20. Winning the Central will be hard but I'm more interested in how the individuals will do. I think that will depend on a few players having breakout seasons. Maybe it's me bit it seems the FA market was quite diluted among teams this year.1 point

I wonder if they were targeting these Cubans and got thwarted when Trump nixed that plan? It seems crazy but what they did this year just doesn’t seem like Paddy.1 point

Correct, but neither did Kris Bryant or Devers. Just goes to show how loaded that position is. Just my opinion, but Moncada, Bryant and Devers should be on the list over Donaldson/Turner/Machado/Suarez1 point

Very good move and at a really, good price. Lack of pitching depth was an organizational concern going into last year’s draft, drafting Dalquist and Thompson helped infuse some young and projectable talent into the system. Veras follows suit.1 point

The very definition of NBA hell. They supposedly draft well, but still lose. The team needs a new vision. Pax, Gar, and Boylen have to go.1 point

Does NOT St*ve read this board and then just throw shit out on Twitter? Not sure what Maeda does for the Sox at this point vs what would have to given up. Same goes for Joc if his previous cost was Bummer.1 point

Gotta love how this organization gives its prospects a chance more so than most of the league. The Padres and White Sox do wonderful things towards getting their prospects up early/when their ready.1 point

I loved the forward thinking drafting of Thompson and Dalquist last year...and this seems to add to that strategy ?1 point

Very very pleased between this and this years draft Sox have a chance to really boost pitching depth1 point

I don’t like Renteria as a manager, but he’s had terrible cards his entire time with us. Trying to fill five positions with some combination of Alonso, Yolmer, Engel, Cordell, Castillo, and Tilson is like using makeup to conceal a direct hit from a 12 gauge. Let’s see what he can do with an actual competent MLB roster. Now, the minute Eloy bunts or some Ryan Goins equivalent starts twice in one week without a significant injury, then flame away.1 point

Joc was available because they upgraded. His price was obviously higher earlier, as they had no MVP level replacement and weren’t looking to move money. But yeah, b**** the Sox didn’t bring Joc in for a year.1 point

You realize that the extension argument is extra silly since it is also possible to "Sign guys as free agents"?1 point

let me be the first to explain it. 5 years of Aaron Bummer and 2 years of Nomar Mazara > 1 year of Joc Pederson and his 233 career Batting average. Also a bird in the hand meaning if the Betts trade doesn't happen( and its not finalized yet) Pederson probably wouldn't be available and we would be stuck with Adam Engle- Luery Garcia RF.1 point

I assumed this was going to be pictures of Joc Pederson captioned by things he is imagining. "If I push enough air into my cheeks I can inflate them to scare away predators".1 point

ah, I thought the $2 mill committed may have something good. Colas would be a relief, though I'm a bit surprised to read how many "7 figure" Cuban prospects there were, seems like they get such pub when they become available. Very freakin annoyed the Astros could come out and make a splash signing, ridiculous they weren't Braves'd out of international.1 point

Close this thread. It's one of the dumbest arguments ever. Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn won a championship. John Paxson's reign of terror is going on year #18 with 5 playoff series wins and 7 head coaches. It's not even close to the same.1 point
