Finishing my Bachelors this semester and got super lucky and scored a job as business consultant already! Almost no commute, good benefits, good to great pay, leader who wants to take on a mentor role. I'm very excited! I was prepared for the long grind of interviewing and blasting resumes all over the place for months on end. Avoiding that is really awesome. ?3 points

Tim is a fun dude who was having fun in this interview, don't take anything he says here too seriously. He's the best.3 points

personally it really doesn't bother me but Steve was, like a lot of white boomers, trying to universalize his experience as as white boomer across races and generations. TA basically told him to wake the hell up, in so many words.2 points

I’m sorry Jack, but didn’t you have a legit job or two at one point? I could have sworn you quit one due to not liking your boss and got fired from another one for having a relationship with a coworker. I personally am all for this country doing more for people on the spectrum, but how menu opportunities should one get? Clearly at one point the system allowed you to get a job. The country can’t subsidize everyone who fucks up their chances. Honestly, based on your posts here, it seems like you have too high of expectations when it comes to jobs. I get you may feel you are better than the opportunities available to you, but for most of us we have to start at the bottom and work way towards something fulfilling. You seem to expect the perfect role for your skillset right of the bat and that’s probably not going to happen at this point. No one in this country is entitled to to an awesome job, disabled or not, but sadly that’s the system your preaching for.2 points

Less than a penny per dollar of your tax dollars is going to social welfare programs for the less advantaged/fortunate. If you don't think people less fortunate than you deserve 1% of tax payer dollar, I am sorry to hear that. Your tax payer dollars are being wasted in countless other places far worse than social welfare.2 points

FWIW - I think Tim was mostly just joking around in that interview. I wouldn't take his "psssh, I ain't here to walk" talk very seriously.2 points

MLB doesn't have a serious problem; this is always an overreaction. Youth has been "abandoning baseball" since I was 5 year old 27 years ago. Younger generations don't play baseball quite as much in the US as they once did because there are so many options; the game globally has never been bigger. That talent pool has never been bigger. As that younger generation gets older they'll start to enjoy baseball a bit more as has happened for generation after generation. Manfred is a moron and he's honestly the biggest threat to baseball as it stands today. Allowing teams to not try while still potentially making the playoffs would be dreadful for the game.2 points

Yolbert Sanchez has a track record of success in Cuban leagues. He's starting in Kannapolis and could be a major leaguer pretty quickly due to his defensive prowess. Benyamin Bailey is an interesting story as a $35K signing out of Panama. Shortstop is a more important position. If you told me that Bailey ends up ahead of Yolbert on the midseason list, I wouldn't be that surprised. It's not time for that yet though.2 points

Posting this case anyone didn’t see this yet. I can confirm that we collaborated with San Diego Studios on the rosters. Definitely watch the live stream tomorrow for full details. If you weren’t planning on getting the game I would seriously consider changing your mind now.2 points

Less of a right to live? That's hyperbolic as hell. I just don't think they have a right to my money which comes from my labor. I go to work every day for my family, not yours.1 point

Yup. It does. TA does great work with underprivileged kids to offset the finances so they can play. When he speaks on this I think we should listen. TA speaks from experience.1 point

What in the fuck are you talking about. You say you are against the system, but don’t actually do anything to drive real change. And if that’s the case, you may as well adhere to the system already place. Changes aren’t going to magically appear one day to make things better for you. You control your own destiny, even if that may be an uphill battle given your autism.1 point

Why in the world did the Sox not give $2 million to Brad Miller? That’s basically nothing.1 point

You have an attitude problem, no matter what you think. And you’re demanding that someone else go out of the way to find your purpose in life but I’m the selfish and entitled one? Ha. You have no idea where I’ve been or what I’ve done.1 point

As one of the few people who have met Jack in person, I agree he’s his biggest obstacle. Even though it was only for 15 minutes, it’s very clear he’s an incredibly sharp guy and for the most part very normal. His autism is not blatantly obvious IMO. No doubt being on the spectrum is a huge challenge on a day to day basis, but Jack routinely blamed others and/or the system for his shortfalls. And to be fair, it sounds like he’s had some bad breaks, but at some point you got to own your fate and do whatever it takes to get by. It just seems like he assumes he’s fucked without external assistance and has accepted that reality, which is sad because there is a really smart guy somewhere in there.1 point

I'm sorry, I just can't imagine you being an effective advocate. Multiple people in this thread are telling you that you have an attitude problem, and you respond that your efforts don't get far because you "tend to get in front of close minded people" and your spiel "challenges their worldview." Because they disagree with you? You want to tell Iwritecode that he's close minded because he doesn't think your coding idea will be at all useful? Come on, man. Can you not see why nobody would be persuaded by your style?1 point

I help my neighbors. We babysit each other’s kids and dogs and even houses, we lend each other stuff, and I chased some douchebags two blocks when I caught them egging his car. Then I walked back and I helped him clean that junk off. I also help my friends, my family, and so on when needed, to the max of my ability. I am fiercely individualistic, but I am a collectivist with the people I care about. You want my collectivism/altruism to help you. Well, I don’t know you. And I’d rather not have a different neighbor in a crappier neighborhood because part of my paycheck went to you. Sorry.1 point

I don't think I would spend time building a "speech to code" interpreter, unless the problem was constrained to very specific languages so the parser would know that you were intending to call a specific language feature. You would also need a way to store local keywords so class, function and variable names would be properly referenced. I would still rather work on alternate input methods, like Microsoft's adaptive controller: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller Also after reading some of this thread it's clear you're the largest obstacle to your own success @Jack Parkman. Hopefully the perspective of the people in this thread helps you work past that, but given the litany of excuses and blame-shifting I've seen I doubt it. Best of luck with your job search.1 point

Thanks, I've been waiting to share some tips. I'd recommend staying in Tempe if you're younger or single. It's about a 30 minute drive from Camelback but at night you can walk to Mill street and enjoy the nightlife and scenery. If you want something quieter Scottsdale is nice and has a number of resorts. Driving is easy in the valley for the most part. I wouldn't worry about being "too far" from anything. If you rent a cheap car you can get to everywhere you need to be in under an hour. As far as seeing the games outside the Sox, I'd recommend hitting up Talking Stick that place actually feels like a MLB park. If you have kids it's a must as they have a huge kids area. Great beer selection as well. Peoria sports complex is...interesting. There is a place outside there that is a must visit IMO called the "moon saloon" that has some of the cheapest drinks around. Think they had $2 beers and $4 well drinks when we went there prior to the Mariners game. I haven't been to the Cubs' stadium but it's supposed to be on the best. Tickets are usually pretty pricey tho. I usually like to go the first week of March. The weather is milder (usually about 70-75 day and 45-55 at night) and you have a better chance of seeing both the main guys and the youngsters. By mid march most of the young camp invites will be sent to their affiliate and many of the regulars will be getting rest days already. Don't bother to purchase tickets in advance unless you're in a large group. And don't bother with anything other than "lawn" or "general admission". The ushers are VERY relaxed in spring training, especially at Camelback. You can slide up right behind home plate about anytime after the 2nd inning. For autographs at camelback usually the Sox players sign on the 1st base lawn side starting about an hour before the game and then when the guys get pulled they will often sign on their way back to the clubhouse. For stuff to do outside baseball I'd recommend climbing Camelback mountain (steep but short and a great view) and if you're into hiking Tom's Thumb is a great hike a bit outside the city of moderate difficulty. For food in Tempe I recommend NCounter, Pedal House brewery and La Bocca. La Bocca is a really great wine and pizza bar. A bit pricey but excellent food and service. Eating outside there with a glass of wine and a solid piece of pizza after a day in the sun and baseball is pure joy if you're coming from a harsh winter.1 point

Last year Yolbert Sanchez and Ben Bailey were teammates in the DSL. Bailey had vastly superior numbers. Bailey was 17, Sanchez was 22. Naturally, Sanchez is ranked 12 spots higher than Bailey. Every other team would love to get their hands on Bailey; Sanchez, not so much. I don't get it. Bailey should be Top Ten material, or at least those two should be switched.1 point

Probably directed at me, so I'll respond. That's a fair comment. I am not acting like $2 is a lot of money. I also get being a writer is a tough gig and all - I was a journalism major in college and literally dreamed of being a sports beat writer for the majority of my teenage years - I get it. I decided to change my career pretty much immediately upon graduation because I didn't want to make $35k or less a year for the majority of my young adult life. Fast forward 8 years, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to ditch that plan. I will pay the $2 to support the futuresox crew for their great content - but I will also say that people are always going to get content for free whether one likes it or not. Poor taste? Maybe. But its also reality. Especially when its content people have historically had access to for free. Roast me for that opinion if you'd like - that's fine - and I get why the FS guys want to make a few bucks for their work. Making money writing about sports ain't easy.1 point

Apparently MLB 20 will have full minors rosters by default. No more fake minor league players.1 point

What other games you have your eye on? Never been much of a shooter gamer. Used to play the show and NHL a decent amount in my college years, but that's about it for me since the original Xbox days.1 point
