  2. If b****ing and moaning for not spending money on bench pieces is where we are at, things are looking very good for the Sox this season.

  3. The Tim Anderson hater/doubters will eat crow yet another year. This year, Anderson will be even better than last. Bet on it.

  5. Very true. hopefully he also alters his follow through that I've disliked since they drafted him.

  6. There are two OFs on the roster who can hit Lefties pretty well, Garcia and Engel. And they both play a better defensive OF than Puig can dream of.

  7. The guy is already on the roster, his name is Leury. Its a perfectly suitable platoon. Mazara is going to hit like 30 bombs this year. He hasn't been healthy for 2 seasons.

  8. Just places my vote! Crazy to be 50/50 with 65k votes. Someone mentioned seeing Sox gear out and about. I was in Seattle this last week, saw lots of M's gear, but the only other team I saw were 3 Sox hats.

  9. Hey, leave the trainer out of it. The poor guy makes next to nothing (comparatively) and always takes care of everyone. You dont have to berate him as the lowliest person around.

  11. Remember when he asked Moncada to bunt and then Moncada almost broke his hand before he roped a double into the corner? Yea, that "cast has changed" excuse doesn't hold much water.

  12. The latest piece by Fegan about the pitching staff, technology, Cooper and more importantly Giolito was fantastic. Cease changed his delivery and looks a lot like Giolito; as he spent all off-season working with Giolito to fix his spin and balance issues. His grip issues and etc. His glove being far from his body through him off balance. Lopez, who had turned down Giolito's offer last off-season (to which Giolito said he felt he'd never come around) and worked out in DR, took Lucas up on the offer this off-season. He also went to learn about maximizing his spin, command and etc with modern new-age tech that Lopez wasn't a big believer in prior. Giolito also made changes; to his slider grip, and he worked all off-season to find that old 12/6 hammer's release point to throw it for strikes. And Carlos Rodon has been using all the new Sox tech to learn how to use his lower body more (he always stood so tall) to tech stress off his legs. This is obviously a spring training fluff piece in a way, but players believe when other players have huge turnarounds like Giolito. They bought in, and who knows how well it may benefit the team going forward.

  14. Starting to warm to the idea of Puig because he’ll probably come cheap, and this offseason could/should come as one hell of a wakeup call and maybe he’ll be extra motivated.

  15. He definitely must be thought of as a cancer around the MLB. For a guy who is pretty close to the player that Marcell Ozuna is, no one seems to be interested in him. Ozuna had a compensation draft pick attached to him and still got $18 million for one year. That said, I’d still sign him if he came very cheaply at around $8 to $10 million for one year.

  16. Not trying to be a dick, but are you actually insane? There is no Bears fan more guilty of this than you. Like I’ve had to do four takes to ensure I am responding to the right person because there is no way Jack Parkman could have written the above post.

  17. Nice talk bud. But yes, I think what the millionaire players on the Astros did was far worse than what the working class 1919 White Sox did. Some of the 1919 White Sox were afraid of what might happen to them if they did not comply with the plan. The Blackstros scheme lasted for more than a year. Unlike the 1919 White Sox scandal, the "Stros have a world series championship at the expense of another team and at the expense of all fans of baseball.

  20. Tim Anderson was extended in ST 2017 and is controlled through 2024. Mazara is controlled for 2 more seasons. None of your comps make a lick of sense.

  21. I actually think Mazara will be solid for us. That doesn't mean to me that we should operate like a rebuilding team if in fact we are trying to contend. If their is a right fielder who can hit lefties solidly, or is better than him, it should be a strong consideration.

  22. We'd be pissed had we traded Tim after 2018 for Steele Walker. Point still stands, Mazara has underperformed and has been underwhelming for 4 years. He shouldn't be handed a job based on potential. At this point in his career, he needs to earn it.

  23. They are one in the same. If Puig’s decision is truly between the Sox and Rockies, it will probably be the Rockies. Fathom’s guess of the Mariners still makes the most sense with Haniger out after two offseason surgeries.

  24. He has two years of control left. Even if he had a monster 2020 in Texas, they aren't getting much for an impending FA. Walker is a interesting enough prospect, their OF is loaded, and they have a ton of LH bats. It made plenty of sense for Texas to make the move. FWIW - I am 100% down to roll the dice on Mazara. The dude is going to rake RHP. Out of the 8 spot. We could do so much worse. Just let it play out.

  25. Yea I don't see the Rangers as some amazing scouting org that perfectly ordained Mazara is forever a 1 WAR player. Not that Chicago is some great scouting org either but a change of scenery often does folks good, in any line of work. It's not a bad move by Chicago. Not one I probably would have made but I can see the thinking behind it.

  27. It stopped because they filled their holes and there is no one left (who would be a serious upgrade) to fill whatever still may be unfilled. Spending money on these older utility/platoon players/marginal upgrades is just silly.

  29. If Grandal is hitting Lead Off, he won't be the on base machine that he was hitting in the bottom third of a National League lineup.

  30. This would never happen, but I would make the line-up..... 1) Grandal - S 2) Robert - R 3) Moncada - S 4) Abreu - R 5) Eloy - R 6) Edwin - R 7) Anderson -R 8.) Mazara - L 9) Mendick/Madrigal - R I like Robert leading off because of his speed and he lead off most of 2019, but his lack of walks and likelihood of a solo shots either leading off the game or hitting in front of Mendick/Leury for a chunk of the year make me want him to hit 2nd, behind Grandal who is an on-base machine, but if Grandal doesn't get on, Robert still has the chance to use those legs to stretch out extra bases or swipe some bags in front of Moncada with 1 out.

  31. Good for Timmy. Plays the game the right way, plays the game hard, is honest, came from humble beginnings. How can anyone not like him? Hope he hits a few line drives right at Verlander’s knee caps.

  32. You misunderstand the point . If you are happy, as we all are, that we came out of the rebuild by spending money, that had to happen eventually. The point is why not make a bigger effort to win ? Why is the payroll stuck at $110M or where ever its at now ? We get fed crumbs . Every year seems like let's see what we have. Lets wait till we see how we do. Let's wait to see what attendance is this year or what the TV ratings are. Oh we should be happy we finally entered the world of biomechanics and finally making an effort in IFA . Hooray White Sox, Feed us just enough to be grateful we aren't starving. Usually in the past when the Sox have made a decent splash in the FA market we get fed stories about increases in season tickets. I haven't seen anything this year about that . Will we get your hopes too high for more payroll if we see better season ticket sales ? Yes things are going well .Maybe we can all be appeased again when the Sox finally spend over $100M on a player. Why does it take the Sox so long to do what other teams have already done? I am excited for the season as I am always. That doesn't mean I should be happy the team is finally coming out of the dark ages. I expect better . When we talk about Mookie Betts why is it always everyone telling us no way ? Your reaction is the kind the Sox like, Yay we still have a payroll below average but we're so happy the rebuild is over that the fleeting thoughts about will they , can they ,finish it off gets vanquished .

  33. Good interview. Easy to root for. Even liked his lineup...TA, Moncada, Grandal, Abreu, EE, Eloy, Robert, Mazara, Garcia Probably would flip Abreu and Grandal, but it’s a good lineup to start out with and then adjust as it goes on.

  34. People here have been overly negative about Mazara. I think there is a plan that can work.

  35. I just listened to the new Mazara interview, on the NBC podcast. What a terrific, likeable young man. He was more personable, intelligent and articulate than most of the American ball players, whom I've heard interviewed, especially considering that English is not his native language. I'll be rooting very hard for him and love his potential.

  36. The Sox, or any team, doesn't have the only say in who they sign. A veteran player may look at the roster and not see playing time or playing time that they don't think will maximize their ability to get a solid next contract. It's not like if Madrigal struggles early on they're going to sit him for a replacement level player. They spent good money this offseason and were in on Wheeler, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

  37. I'd be okay with not signing Puig, but not if the reason was a tight wallet.

  38. I feel like David Samson is right. It's going to take a 2005-like convergence of happenings for the Sox to win the division or a championship. Otherwise, be happy finishing 2nd to the Twins for another decade.

  41. A researcher from Belgium discovered that a 86 year old malaria medicine called 'chloroquine' works against the corona virus. I think this has been known for quite a while now, but after several weeks of testing it has been proven to greatly reduce the symptoms and speed up recovery as of today. I can only find news articles in my native language but I guess this is pretty good news.

  45. I'll make a hot take on Mercedes which we will never know. I'd think if he and Robert both were on the opening day 26 I'd say he would hit just as well as Robert in an equal amount of PA's. He's K'd less and walked more at the same level and has had years to get to where he is. Of course Robert would be 4 X as valuable due to defense and speed but for hitting alone I think it would be close .
