Let me put this very clearly. Posting entire articles on a message board isn't for "educational purposes", nor is it "fair use". Websites get sued for this, and this page will not be one of them. This is not up for discussion. This is not a dialogue. This has been, and will continue to be the policy at Soxtalk. ANY more posting of materials in this matter will lead to an immediate and permanent revocation of posting privileges on this page.3 points

I will say @SouthWallace has done a tremendous job this spring. Has really made it much easier to follow these games.2 points

These 0-2 mistakes are just not acceptable. Spring or otherwise. These are mental mistakes mostly.2 points

In the 2019 spring training, Edwin Encarnacion went 4/33 in recorded A games, for a .121 batting average and a .273 OPS. He hit 0 HR and had 13 strikeouts.2 points

I don’t think it was a Devers or Basabe / Diaz. I think the Red Sox straight up rejected Devers ad the third piece and Hahn countered with a “I’d at least need Basabe & Devers” to get a deal done. I really don’t think that Hahn ever thought those alternatives were of equal value.2 points

@Minoso-Pierce-Allen-HOF this is the last time I'm going to tell you that you cannot cut and paste entire articles to soxtalk. Companies will sue soxtalk and have threatened to do so in the past. You can link, you can synopsize, do not paste entire articles.2 points

Barring weather problems, they’re going to use a 5th starter in the 5th game on March 31st. They still say Gio Gonzalez will be ready. Anderson, Moncada, Abreu, Grandal, Jimenez, Encarnacion, Robert, Mazara, Garcia Mendick, Engel, McCann, Mercedes Giolito, Keuchel, Lopez, Cease, Gonzalez Fulmer, Fry, Cordero, Marshall, Herrera, Bummer, Cishek, Colome Pretty thoughtful projection. Fry has not pitched this spring. Madrigal will be coming. Kopech will be coming. If healthy so will Rodon. All in good time. Here's the comments of Jose Contreras that will bring a smile to the reader's face. From NBC-Chicago and Chuck Garfien. Y Good luck with your self quarantine. Remember to seal up the home with saran wrap and aluminum foil. The first creates a virus barrier and the other keeps the government from reading your mind. I hope it works out for you.1 point

Yes, and as long as he doesn't get a chance you will continue to get to use this excuse to deny his potential as an elite hitter.1 point

My intoxicated analysis bares more weight than the sober analysis from many others. Trust me, he didn't look good1 point
-
Cmon, he saw the bat speed himself. In exhibition games. How much more evidence could you possibly need?1 point
-
There's no evidence he's an elite hitter. Again, I entreat people to compare his AAA stats, his age, his prospect status with Palka. They are much more alike than dislike and it starts with not having a position. Like it or not the Fangraphs DH penalty is like -15 runs before you even step on the diamond. It's a position you HAVE to mash at. 250/310/520 is a .5 WAR DH. 280/340/550 is about a 2 WAR DH. Do you think Yermin can hit 280/340/550? I sure as shit don't. He'll get a shot if EE goes down. That's where he's at. He knows it, he's already said as much.1 point
-
BTW, shame on Rick Hahn for not have given Yermin an extended look last September. Especially with the pile of ass he had up here taking ABs to close out the season. Maybe you would have found a DH then and avoided looking for one in the offseason.1 point

He had an OPS of 1.033 in Charlotte in 53 games last year. Not good enough?1 point

there isn't a pitcher in MLB that would be OK pitching to Mercedes. Have you seen his few innings this spring back there? He makes Collins look like Johnnie Bench. Dude look at these stats. 8 balls back to the backstop (one passed ball, lol, nice scorekeeping) in 24 innings caught. 0-2 throwing out runners. Non fucking starter as a catcher. http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+fielding&game_type='S'&season=2020&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'§ionType=sp&statType=fielding&page=1&ts=1583797484456&team_id=145&playerType=ALL&sortColumn=pb&sortOrder='desc'&extended=01 point

go hit for an 950 OPS in Charlotte for three months. Improve a ZIPS projection around replacement level. Prove he can play a position other than DH? Any other questions?1 point

This is your tank day reminder. Now is not the time to panic sell. If you didn't already sell, you probably missed your window. if anything, this is a bargain hunting day, assuming you are investing for the long term.1 point

I know it's only spring training but damn does Ricky love batting Delmonico 3rd and 4th1 point

Just FYI, there is a high likelihood you're having people replying to you right now who are immunocompromised. In fact, I'd say it's virtually certain. So telling people that it's not a big deal when they know their own risk...may get those people replying to you and trying to make you care about why it's a big deal.1 point

Moncada is a hard one. He made the necessary adjustments last year but now it's the pitchers turns. If he is truly an elite type player like we saw last year then you could be right and he beats everything. He might see more junk and maybe he hits best when he is hitting earlier in the count and hitting the 1st good pitches he sees. I expect him to see a lot less good pitches. But that will be the case with a lot of our hitters so they need to take their walks . I'll still go higher on OPS and fWAR but 26 HR's seems about right. I think his batting average is lower so he'll have to walk more but how will that affect his K 's and the aggressiveness he showed that led to a great year in 2019 ?1 point

.500 or better, but that probably would fall under the category of “competitive” too. Should be a fun season. The first in a long time.1 point

Honestly, it’s not helping anything and your obsessive use of carriage returns after single sentences is brutal. You are writing posts, not haikus. Add in all these carriage returns with your Caufield-length posts and you are making threads absolutely painful to scroll through.1 point
