The silly thing is that people don't think they are paying for people who aren't taking care of themselves now. Why do you think hospital stays are so expensive? You are paying for everyone else's risk factors, as well as the uninsured.4 points

Little Looie, turns 86 today, the last living starter from the 1959 World Series team. Only a few role players are left like Lou Skizas & J.C. Martin who both had a cup of coffee with the 59 Sox. Luis was the first baseball player I met, along with Pete Ward in the summer of 1969 when they showed up to sign autographs at the store behind my house on the Southwest Side. As a 7 year old that was when I became a White Sox fan for life. Best of health to you Luis, one of the Sox (and baseball's) best.3 points

#20 is Cuban right hander Norge Vera. The White Sox reached agreement with him for this period in addition to a bunch of other smaller signings. Their remaining money likely goes to either Cespedes or Oscar Colas. We'll see.3 points

I really hope that enough states stick to their guns about staying closed longer so that we can collect divergent data sets to prove who is right and wrong here for opening up this early.2 points

Based on the reckless and selfish behavior of a significant part of the US population that May spread is gonna boomerang us right back into a lockdown.2 points

I have to re-convince myself every day that those who are unwilling to listen will one day, eventually, realize the truth of what is happening to their country. Yes, I realize the odds of Greg reading Noam Chomsky are probably 1 in 10,000. Perhaps less. And there’s not going to be any hardcore Trump supporters changing their minds, that much is certain. But it’s worth it to me if just a FEW become more open-minded. I have zero illusions about Joe Biden even being able to reset the world back to November of 2016. I was a high school senior in 1988 back when he first ran and I participated in the Iowa caucus. I didn’t like him then, not do I particularly like him now. But something has to change, eventually. The country can’t keep going on this way and continue to be a shining beacon for the rest of the world, the greatest remaining hope for the future. Maybe it doesn’t matter. That’s fine, too. Next Thursday I have to do the nose swab and nucleic acid test here in Wuhan despite not going outside once since January 20th. Every teacher and student needs to do that before we can all go back to school on May 11th. Then my life will finally return to the new normal and I won’t have nearly as much free time. I will spend an hour each way going back and forth to work. So you can relax and turn your focus to bigger problems in the world than me. Good luck.1 point

A reporter asked her about Trump singling out certain cities that have many immigrants and she responded with "we don't follow that racist and xenophobic ideology." Same reporter/different reporter went to ask about "Trump has said.." and Lightfoot interrupted by saying "he has said many questionable things in the last 3.5 years."1 point

And yet... Buehrle was better than McDowell (ERA, WHIP, Win % ( and wins still mattered as both guys averaged more than 7IP)) Fernandez and Garcia were like, the same. Creepily so. Garland and Alvarez were close, slight advantage to Alvarez in ERA, more substantial advantage to Garland in WHIP, very similar. Contreras was a bit better than Bere. That is no slight on Bere, who as a 23 year old went 12-2 and K'd 8 guys per 9, with a biiig fastball, and put up a good ERA though lots of BBs as well. But Contreras was a monster in the 2nd half ,and was better across the board. Bere gets the nod in win %, (.857!!!) but averaged about 5.2 IP, where Contreras averaged just over 6.1 (and still had a great win % of .682) Buehrle and Contreras make the difference. However you chose to match them up, I think those two end up as advantages for the 05. So I'd say, the 05 team beats them.1 point

Hermanson/Cotts/Politte, and then later on Jenks, are tough to pass up. Roberto Hernandez wasn’t exactly having a great season in 94.1 point

It’s always going to be an Asterisk season, no matter what they do. If they can play something that’s 3-4 months including the postseason-in major league parks, then I think it’s worth it.1 point

C'mon Jack... There is absolutely zero question that Shaq would have a place in today's NBA. He is arguably the most dominant player at his peak. I've never seen a player with his combination of tools. Imagine Shaq with a stretch 4 and a bunch of wings stretching the floor for him. Look what Dwight was able to do in the 2008-09 season when he was surrounded by players who spread the floor. That team made it to the finals. Dwight is like a lesser version of Shaq and he was able to dominate. Questioning whether Shaq would have a place in today's NBA is just crazy.1 point

Let's put it this way: It's questionable if Shaq or Ewing would have a place in today's NBA. Kukoc there isn't even a question about. If Shaq and Ewing would have a place in today's NBA, they probably wouldn't be getting huge minutes. And when I talk about Shaq, I mean LA Shaq not Orlando Shaq. Orlando Shaq would have a place, it's questionable about LA Shaq. This is coming from one of the biggest Shaq fans as a kid. I liked him as much as I liked Jordan.1 point

I want the opening theme song from "Jonny Quest". And when they play it as I walk up, I want the snarls from the panther and the Dragons of Ashida, all the gun fire, and most importantly, the screech from Turu the Terrible. Absolutely awesome.1 point

I just gave myself a trim on Sunday. Was nice. But I cut my hair on a pretty regular basis. Good ole #21 point

I feel like Kukoc would have been a star back then if he landed somewhere other than Chicago. He was a perfect role player for those Bulls teams, but he spent his prime as a 6th man behind Jordan and Pippen. In his age 30 season in '98-99, he averaged 18.8 points, 7 rebounds and 5.3 assists a game.1 point

There are a lot people living in fantasy land. Just open up and everything will be okay and the virus will go away. Some people think that the stimulus checks are coming directly from Trump not the government. What do we need testing for? What do we need social distancing for? And that older loved one you may have? That person is on his last legs anyway and so it doesn't matter if he drops dead. Meanwhile, the numbers keep adding up, and all Trump worries about is protecting the liability of corporations. Oh, I forgot. Trump is a populist who cares about the working class person. Now, there is a real fantasy.1 point

He’s not talking about consumer needs vs. wants, and My Pillow Guy vs. Nike. It’s how can the economic livelihood of one person be put ahead of the health care concerns of another...? Money can always be gained and regained. You can’t say the same thing about a human life. And there’s a multiplier effect here at play, too. For every suicide or family breakdown due to economic circumstances, there’s a highly trained doctor or nurse feeling even more intense pressure when we overload hospitals with our self-centered, me first decision-making. What will your attitude on this topic when you or your family can’t access a doctor because too many Americans are putting themselves individually ahead of the collective good? A cavalier dismissal...that’s just life? Some inevitably have to die to save the rest of us? Why are you the arbiter who gets to make these life and death determinations? An entrepreneur is always going to be a risk taker taker by nature. They will succeed no matter what obstacles you place in their path because it’s our way of life. Cycles of boom and bust repeat. We will eventually replace capital, printing more money and injecting additional stimulus/liquidity into the system. What we can’t easily or as quickly do is replace our best, most experienced doctors who have been burned out compensatating for poor judgment.1 point

The 3 ways I've got that the next 18 months can go are: 1. Cut transmission down to low levels followed by aggressive tracking, testing, and tracing (led by the federal government), wait for a vaccine. 2. At least 1.5 million people and more than likely 3 million people die nationwide and the economy is destroyed because it's impossible to open anything when that many people are sick for weeks to months and the Health Care system is paralyzed. Hope that transmission doesn't re-start if people begin losing immunity, because then the death toll is way more than 3 million. 3. Keep everything, schools, businesses, closed for the large majority of the next 18 months, wait for a vaccine. Literally everything we've seen for the last 7 weeks tells that exact same story. No magic bullet has appeared, no magic drug or treatment, there's a giant pile of bodies and every bit of evidence says that the 1-2% death rates seen in January will absolutely hold, including most notably the nightmare that New York City became. Spots like Singapore and Hokkaido show clearly that if there are any areas that open up even to a minimal degree without aggressive tracing, the Virus will begin spreading rapidly there again, forcing new shutdowns with much larger case totals. If you've got a better idea, please let me know.1 point

The funny thing about jerksticks is he acts like shutting down is something we "want" to do. I dont want to be shutdown. As many have I'm sure, I've lost a lot in the shutdown. It sucks. But why should my materialistic things be more important and valuable than an actual human life? What is wrong with the selfish nature of so many. My goodness. When you see things bad happen to people and say it's not me and turn a blind eye, you're merely kicking the can down the road. Do that enough times and you'll be the one getting hit by a car.1 point

It's arrogance because they think they're smarter than the game. They're eliminating minor league teams and cutting the draft because they think they're better and SMARTER at developing players. They have technology!!! No need for all those pesky players anymore. It's too bad. They're making the game worse but the nerds are holding the hammer because they can say the 5 magic words that every billionaire owner loves to hear. It will save you money.1 point

Added a few new podcasts: This Past Weekend with Theo Von - Comedy podcast. I've only listened to the ones with guests so far. He's from Real World or Road Rules. I saw him di standup a few years ago, and his show was one of the funniest I've seen live. Mobituaries wirh Mo Rocca - I listened to the first about a JFK impersonator. Well done. It's new, but if the rest are like this, I'll keep listening. McNeil and Parkins - The Bears success had me dip my toe back in the local Chicago radio scene. I've been downloading select portions of this show. I've always like Mac as a host (even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like him in person), and Parkins is a good cohost.1 point
