For the love of God people. STOP REPLYING TO GREG. Dude is getting you all twisted with his shtick, and it is working perfectly for him. Ignore him, and he will slowly fade away. Please, for all of us.4 points

I think everybody has sacrificed in the short term; it's just that people after two months are fed up with it. No job means no $$ means starvation and homelessness. Maybe government shoulda given everybody 5,000 bucks a month to shut em up.3 points

I related it to being punished by your parents and having to stand in the corner for 10 minutes. But instead of just doing that, you keep leaving and the time keeps starting over. Then you end up in the corner for hours instead of just the initial 10 minutes.3 points

Pritzker's news release yesterday was some really good news, for those who missed it. They are using six measures to decide readiness for moving to next phases of re-opening, and the state is split into five regions. All but one region are "in the green", meaning on track to go to Phase 3 (the next phase), by May 27th when the current order expires. The one region not there, Northeast, is "in the green" on five measures, and the sixth (positivity rate of tests) they are this/close to getting there and still can before we are at the date. So it looks like most or all regions will be seeing Phase 3 within a couple weeks. Strange thing though - when I went paging through my social media feeds this morning, I see all these complaints about JB moving the goalposts, keeping people prisoner, all that stuff. I couldn't figure out what they meant until I realized they are thinking of the news that the peak is moving out to June, and somehow in their minds that meant waiting longer to open up. Basically, people aren't understanding how all this works. The moving out of the peak is actually a very GOOD thing, and the continued flattening is why we are looking at getting open SOONER. But people are so reactionary now, we get yelling and screaming about some nonsense. I really just wish people would read things all the way through, take a deep breath, and think for a few minutes before spouting off.3 points

It shouldnt take 12 months. The reason why the US is having these problems is because we cant sacrifice in the short term for a better result in the long term. Imagine going to get a haircut. At the same time another customer wants their haircut. Which is faster: A) The barber cuts your hair and the second customer waits patiently. B) The second customer keeps stopping your barber by complaining about how long its taking.2 points

i want it locked down until it's safe. My wife has asthma. If she gets this, she could die. I don't need to risk going to a restauarant and trusting everyone is healthy and everything is clean. I am no germophobe, but this thing scares me. We need a lot more testing. Potentially putting your life in someone else's hands every time you go out is pretty scary. Would a parent send their child to school with what is now out there with kids? Chances are it won't happen to them, but what if it does? I just take all the people telling me to be a warrior and go out and risk my life, aren't willing to do the same.2 points

This is a great post. The rest of the world recognized that if they were going to lockdown people, they would have to provide for their people's needs. But in the US, we are going to make you choose between starving and exposing yourself to the most dangerous contagion in the past 100 years, all so they don't have to pay you for unemployment.2 points

Tell 775 that's what Tex means to tell y'all. Tex believes that folks that are planning on spending a month or more on that island paradise may opt to spend a couple weeks in self quarantine. Tex is also thinking that there are worse places to spend two weeks naked eating room service. All you need is to get yourself a little Texas tornado if y'all get my drift.2 points

The Players Union has no reason to believe that this would be true. Same goes for the claim that the owners would be "operating at a loss". Until they can back up their claims with evidence, it's all meaningless. And personally, I have a hard time believing that concessions + ticket sales account for half of teams' revenue in 20201 point

Imagine if there was ANY type of world geopolitical problem related to the Czech Republic and Slovenia... Would reporters (or the American president of the future) then get to ask Ivanka or Melania to respond for those respective countries? What were they doing in their twenties, let alone at the age of 2? Because the CBS reporter (Weijia Jiang) Trump went after has been (I’m going to repeat it) in the US since age 2 and is an American citizen. Her parents are retired and own a Chinese restaurant in West Virginia of all places. It doesn’t get any more American that that! Getting an education and improving one’s position through the financial sacrifice of parents...that’s the true American Dream, not coming over to the US on shady modeling/socialite work visas. She believed in the power of journalism so much she even became a reporter at the age of 13! Isn’t that the type of ambition we would hope our own kids would emulate, and possibly even praise? “Jiang graduated from The College of William and Mary in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a minor in Chemistry. She also graduated from Syracuse University in 2006 with a master’s degree in broadcast journalism. In 2012, she was inducted into the prestigious Professional Gallery at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. [13]1 point

Yep, had one scheduled then some dude went and stabbed one employee and shot and killed another as they were trying to reopen the shop. Now I'm waiting for Sports Clips to have less than a three hour wait. I'll probably check again with them in a few weeks. Thanks for asking! I enjoy G7's daily status report about his unsanitary hair, how he can't find a mask, then can't find a mask that fits his big head and glasses, then can't get it tied. I would love to work Improv with him, he is amazing at offering people stuff they can work with. This thread is filled with stressful news from around the world then boom, G7 jumps in with statements like we're going to be one of the poorest countries on the planet by the end of the year, or 60% unemployment and starvation, or he's going to catch the virus in a germy airport bathroom.1 point

Am I wrong, or are you the dude that had the hair cut appointment scheduled like 3 days ago? If so, you seem super hypocritical with this.1 point

Chances are that won't be until May 2021 at the earliest. I'm no dummy and this this is going to spike so badly this flu season. So what do we do for food and money to pay rent? If we go til May 2021 it could be 60-80 percent unemployment. What the hell are we gonna do when the food shortages cause utter havoc? If it's locked down until its safe, a.) governors need to send us 5,000 dollars per month and b.) somehow the government needs to keep the groceries stocked cause all restaurants will be shuttered down.1 point

The only reason the economy is a problem is because of politics. Back in February/March you could have shut down most non essential business and had the govt directly pay anyone who lost their job and it would have cost less than the PPP and other stimulus plans. The reason why the economy is as problem is because politics require that we protect the sacred cows of the US, the ultra wealthy. The reason why people need to take it serious now, is to prevent the destruction of the economy. If everyone can band together for a month, we can start to make progress.1 point

I'm just trying to figure your position on the economy. Some of my relatives in Illinois who want to stay locked down are of the position the economy means nothing: let's get through this corona thing by having everyone stay at home for as how long as it takes; 2 years is fine with them). My take is the economy is JUST AS BIG a concern as corona cause of starvation, shortages, riots, the end of the world, really when human nature takes over with food scarce. My main point is: this corona thing is not going to be solved until minimum May 2021 probably a lot longer than that. Meanwhile the economy is ready to make our lives even more miserable than corona. Once there are food lines in front of grocery stores and you have to wait 24 hours to get in and everything else is closed ... God help us all. My take is we must work together to be as safe as possible while not having 1/2 of America out of work. My relatives don't care about the economy at all. They are like, first things first. End this corona scare. The economy can wait.1 point

How long do you wanna be locked down? Do you agree with my scenario of riots? It's been 2 months; people are starving and mad as hell.1 point

Someone tell Rona that two months is enough, thank you also let's infect everyone because cool that's fine everyone has it1 point
-
Great points! I am assuming you are in the "Keep it locked down" crowd. We're up to 20 percent unemployment. How high can we go before the riots? The shortages? Dick ... are you confident in the scenarios I've mentioned regarding travel (even travel on the train from Naperville to downtown Chicago and back; and the uber and the bus) that the corona germ would EVER be absent in your daily life once it resumes to normal? They can clean all they want. We have two choices: Stay locked down til May of 2021 or 2022, completely locked down til we have vaccine or treatment, or open it up to an earth where slobs will make sure there are germs out there RAMPANT during flu season (September til March). You want it locked down for a long time, right? I say we can't lock it down any longer cause of life.1 point

Owning a house is as good an analogy to being a baseball owner as comparing it to businesses.1 point
-
I knew somebody would say that to my post. I want all reasonable precautions taken ... but we have to open. Like I said ... take 3-4 business trips any winter and oh yes there will be germs. Oh yes you are gonna get sick, maybe violently sick like my cough/cold last winter. BOOM. WOW. And yet I kept working through it. Why? In the old normal a cold didnt keep you from working. Now? Who knows. A cough/cold might shut you off a plane or train or bus immediately. I'm not talking of precautions. I'm talking life. We've been through this two months. Now summer is here; delightful summer and everything is canceled. How long do we have things shut down. Til we get a vaccine? Some people are anti vax anyway; they'll give us corona. Til we have a cure of symptoms? OK let's shut it down with the same lockdown regulations until lets say May of 2022. Good luck. Violence in the streets. No food. End of the world. Answer this badger: Is life meant to be about only trying to stay alive? Precautions? YES by all means. Will we still get corona? Yes and may die from it. Reasonable precautions, baby, that's what we must do.1 point
-
You know what Balta ... you make EXCELLENT points. Guess what. Like my post to badger, no matter the precautions, no matter the cleaning, people are going to get the virus just as kids in the past have gotten sick during the school year. They call them sick days for a reason. Think about before corona ... flu season. Ouch! Kids getting sick, bringing it home, getting their parents sick. Yet we move on and get well hopefully. I have a good friend whose wife died of the flu. Bonecrushingly sad. Brings me to tears a lot that the fricking flu killed her in her 30s. My point: Like I said: Life is not meant to be lived just to preserve our life. We take risks every day and unfortunately after 2 months of this we are going to have to take some risks. And I say this as somebody who yes, will get corona if my lifestyle remains the same and may die of corona if the symptoms remain this bad. I hate this for everybody but either we never open school again and deal with that or we open them NOW and take a few risks as we do every winter with germs/cold/flu season. And the fact a bus could hit our kids. Or a rabid dog could bite them, etc. Be cautious. YES. But reopen. We must or we all will die of starvation anyway. Stores will have no food. Violence will erupt with a crushed economy. Life will not be worth living. Comments?1 point

Disagree. I watched a neat video today that said the purpose of life is not merely to keep living. Two months of this is enough. The way my life works I'll tell you what's going to happen no MATTER the precautions. I am going to get coronavirus at some point. Why? Cause I never touch my face with my hands, I wash a lot, I pay attention to stuff germ wise YET because I travel, every winter I get 3, count em, 3 colds, vicious colds and coughs. This year one of em will be corona for sure. Why? Slobs at the airport and on planes and germy hotel rooms and rental cars and coffee shops and restaurants. You have to go to the bathroom at an airport? That's where I'll catch it. On a packed plane? That's where I'll get it. At a sporting event or movie? Yes at my church or an out of town church. That's where I'll get it. Look ... I'm not condoning we all get it. But I'm going to get it no matter what and most of us are, according to my nurse brother. It's not just about me needing a haircut (yes I'll probably get germs of corona or a cold at the barbershop or church; that's possible too) or wanting to go to a restaurant. Remember the purpose of life is not just to keep living. And that is natural and that will make sure we all get corona LIKELY no matter what precautions we take.1 point

I usually do. The owners take the risk of laying out the capital to start the business. The employees, typically, have little risk other than losing their jobs. It's not to say they don't have rights, they just don't have much risk. In this particular case though, they had an agreement to pro-rate the salaries and should stick to it.1 point
-
It's how business has always run. They are in the business to make money. They take the risk and they reap the rewards.1 point
-
Why? Never is a pretty strong word lol. Unions can be unreasonable with their demands in negotiations too. I understand an agreement was already in place for pro-rated salaries, but at the time teams were probably hoping to have fans in some capacity. With no gate revenue, players and owners will have to get creative to come together on a plan that makes sense for both sides. Pro-rated salaries with 40% of all revenue gone may not be realistic. Companies and industries of all kinds are experiencing layoffs/furloughs. The players may not like the structure but a compromise has to be made if baseball is going to happen this season and they want paychecks. Hoping both sides can be reasonable and come to an agreement. Still plenty of time to make this work.1 point
-
That's how every business is run these days. Privatize profits, socialize losses and rake in the dough. Fuck everyone but me.1 point

If we had a professional government this actually is something we could have dealt with over the last 2 months. Close everything down in mid-March, and then start having the CDC draw up plans for basically every industry and what type of protections they need. Can people use the restrooms? Can we assess air flow pathways? If a person gets sick, how does a full business access testing? You could have done things like "drop meat-packing plants to 50% capacity, then have the other workers designing the systems early". Maybe there's some places that just default to staying closed, or they identify their highest-risk groups and have them specifically work from home to cut the overall risk to the facility, but this could have been done. When our economy can't open, it's not because people like me are stubborn, it's because we haven't done the hard work to figure out how to actually deal with this situation.1 point
-
I totally agree and am surprised this board isn't more focused on this side of things. This seems like a best-case-scenario for a team that is inexperienced but (we hope) at the beginning of a marked upward trend, and has a number of potentially key pieces that were set to arrive "late" in a traditional season.1 point

This Illinois governor seems to be a dictator. I love Oak Brook fighting back. Anyhow, greg's question: Let's say MLB allows baseball starting July 1. The conservative Illinois governor won't allow activity in Comiskey or Wrigley. So think of the publicity he's going to get in shutting down MLB in Chicago. Those who laud him will push him for a presidential run someday. What a leader!! Those who hate him ... Sox and Cubs shut down cause of this dictatorish guy.1 point

That list looks crazy stupid to me. And after having actually seen Jimmy Lambert pitch I think he is waaaaaaaaaaay too low at 35. Ahead of him are tons of guys I'd trade straight-up for Lambert were he in another organization. Yermin at 8 and as a DH? The only way to justify ranking him so high is if you think he can catch. But that's not even as bad as Lambert at 35. Lmabert below the likes of Zach Thompson and Bryce Bush after the year he just had? Really? In the write up it says that if Lambert hadn't had TJ he'd be Pilkington level. Really? That is a horrible mis-evaluation. There's a bunch of that in here. Basabe at 22, and 6 spots below Luis Gonzalez even after the year Gonzalez had? And how is it that a RP like Heuer can be so valuable such as to rank as high as 9, but James Beard makes this list at all? There are a shitload of other RPs in this system that should rank above him in that case.1 point

Kiley McDaniel's first mock at ESPN came out today: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/29154256/kiley-mcdaniel-2020-mlb-mock-draft-10 11. Chicago White Sox: Reid Detmers, LHP, Louisville The White Sox are another team leaning heavily toward college options at this pick, though they've leaned that way in recent years for higher picks as well. Kjerstad fits here if he makes it down to this pick. It makes a lot of sense for the White Sox to add the Illinois prep product who could be big league ready right as the team gets to playoff contention.1 point
