  1. Before anyone continues posting, I advise you to read the coronavirus rules thread regarding political discussion.

  2. Passing on Abel if he’s still on the board would be a gigantic mistake.

  3. Our political climate has always been on the toxic side, but we are now hitting new lows. If there was ever a time for bi-partisanship, it is now. But it isn't happening. The Democrats have their issues, but most of this starts with Trump and his constant abusing his executive powers. Key leaders of both parties should bi-pass Trump and Biden, and try to come up with ways to unite the country and cope with this crisis. We need some long-term thinking. The hell with November. I drove past a school in my town and saw a long line of cars heading into the parking lot. I wondered why since school has been out for so long. People were picking up food. I don't live in a high-income area, but the town is not considered poor by any means. But here were people looking for food. Nothing worth a crap is happening in Washington. To hell with Trump and to hell with Biden. It's time responsible leaders really do something.

  4. Yes. They have the option of dropping out if school if they truly think they are at too much risk and the medical staff doesn't agree. If they have identified risks, it would be the decision of the medical staff and coaching staff.

  5. So at least for the Angels, since 50% of the team is 1 player...

  6. I don't see how any of the guys you listed besides Trout and Cole would make any sense to sit out. I know your argument is going to be why risk injury for reduced pay if you're an impending FA like Betts or Springer. But sitting out isn't going to do them favors either. The other dudes make no sense.

  8. I don't think they would. I think the would respect the top players far too much to be that selfish. I know I would never vote yes to let Mike Trout take a 75% pay cut so I could make $250k.

  9. I think the players have their hands tied here to be honest. All these guys speaking up via social media their thoughts, no matter how right they might be, if they don't agree to something, they aren't getting paid at all this season. The way I'm seeing it unfold, unfortunately right now it's take what you can get to play, or get nothing at all.

  10. Alexei may not have been a "Very good" player, but he was absolutely a "Good" player for a number of years. Alexei also had the potential to be a very good to great player, so not reaching that potential was disappointing, but he was absolutely a fine player to have on our roster. If Tim Anderson had a career as productive as Alexei's we would be content. Not thrilled or delighted, but absolutely content.

  11. The owners versus the employee dynamic doesn't change from the lowest paid employee to the highest paid employee. I imagine kings and serfs had the same problems.

  12. If they cancel this season over money, they’re going to find out fans don’t care about them as much as they think. Baseball is a great diversion for a lot of people, but the entertainment options out there aren’t scarce. In the end, I think they come to an agreement with a lot of players opting out of this season for various reasons.

  14. 1. If it's not related to the coronavirus at all, it doesn't fly. Biden's VP candidates, investigations into Sec. Pompeo, Biden gaffes, Trump tweets not related to coronavirus, etc. are not coronavirus related. George Floyd is not fair game 2. Anything politicians do concerning coronavirus is fair game. The Biden / Trump mask on Memorial Day story is fair game, legislation discussed is fair game, racial disparities in the handling/impact of coronavirus are fair game. 3. You get one warning, after that a 10-day suspension, then 30-day suspension, then ban. 4. You may appeal to the moderators and admins to justify why something belongs, but following the appeal, the decision is final.

  15. I think Chicago has been a little misguided re: lakefront, but, Chicago's numbers are quite a bit higher than the state as a whole though declining significantly. It's a tough problem, but I think they've missed out in doing some things to allow people outdoor space such as closing down certain city streets to cars, which would alleviate the lakefront path anyway. Michigan ave could have been a good place for that which already would have had lower traffic with the closed down retail, and there are entry points to LSD through wacker as a midway point.

  17. Their lastest mock has the Sox selecting Bailey, but notates that they're looking at the top high school hitters/pitchers as well.

  18. Yes, but I don’t think you would have seen the hatred you’re seeing today in terms of the complete lack of empathy or at best indifference to one’s political enemies. Back then, there was still a common sense of what it meant to be an American, like with the first Gulf War and 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing, Columbine...people at least we were able to set aside their differences and come together when necessary. One thing’s 100% certain, those past decades would not have seen a government official openly talk about people like they were cattle or office equipment. "Our capital stock hasn't been destroyed — our human capital stock is ready to get back to work, and so there are lots of reasons to believe that we can get going way faster than we have in previous crises," WH advisor Kevin Hassett said Sunday on CNN

  19. Which almost makes me think Bailey is not the pick.

  20. I usually do. The owners take the risk of laying out the capital to start the business. The employees, typically, have little risk other than losing their jobs. It's not to say they don't have rights, they just don't have much risk. In this particular case though, they had an agreement to pro-rate the salaries and should stick to it.

  21. It's how business has always run. They are in the business to make money. They take the risk and they reap the rewards.

  22. Why? Never is a pretty strong word lol. Unions can be unreasonable with their demands in negotiations too. I understand an agreement was already in place for pro-rated salaries, but at the time teams were probably hoping to have fans in some capacity. With no gate revenue, players and owners will have to get creative to come together on a plan that makes sense for both sides. Pro-rated salaries with 40% of all revenue gone may not be realistic. Companies and industries of all kinds are experiencing layoffs/furloughs. The players may not like the structure but a compromise has to be made if baseball is going to happen this season and they want paychecks. Hoping both sides can be reasonable and come to an agreement. Still plenty of time to make this work.
