  1. Guys, bmags has made me more confident that an agreement is coming than I have ever been

  2. I've moved firmly to the camp that believes season will be canceled at this point. This is the most embarrassing negotiation process I can imagine, and manfred should resign and personally apologize for being a failure to every baseball fan on earth.

  4. They have to defund the police and redistribute that money into the most economically devastated communities. I'm glad to see all these organizations in Minnesota end their contracts with the police department.

  5. Yeah I'm actually writing something on this currently. I'm not interested in going with a college hitter this year. It usually makes sense and is fairly safe, but I don't like it for lots of reasons at #11 in this class. I love the prep hitters and without a minor league season and what next year looks like very uncertain, I hope they go younger.

  7. Both IMO. They were all over Jared Kelley this year and loved him over the summer. Jim Callis mentioned them with Bitsko and Abel as well. I just wouldn't bet on them taking the plunge. These opinions are changing and we're obviously a week away but I think Reid Detmers is the selection if available. If he's not, I think it's a prep hitter but nobody should be surprised by a college hitter with their history.

  8. I posted some signings on twitter for people to see. I wrote about these for patrons back in February but I corresponded with Ben Badler recently and the players will be in his International Previews on Baseball America. Norge Vera RHP Cuba $1.5 million bonus Victor Quezada 3B DR $525K Manuel Guarimon C Venezuela $475K Dario Barrero OF Venezuela $350K Adrian Gil RHP Venezuela $250K Gabriel Rodriguez IF Venezuela $100K Antonio Jimenez OF $90K Quezada is a big, strength/raw power guy. I tweeted a video. Sox had decent luck with pitchers similar to Gil the past few years with (Cristian Mena and Manuel Veloz). Badler said he expects another "big Cuban signing" due to their history and available pool space.

  9. Jared Kelley is one of the best prep pitchers in the 2020 draft class. The White Sox have done extensive work on Kelley during the pre-draft process. They haven't selected a prep pitcher since taking Kris Honel in 2001. I profiled the right hander here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/01/2020-draft-preview-jared-kelley-rhp/

  10. It was largely because liquor stores and abortion clinics were allowed to remain open...I mean, let’s be real, if you were paying attention yesterday, a certain someone was actually holding the (borrowed for the moment) book of Holy Scripture upside-down. Then the Catholic Church was dragged into it, too, through an unwanted visit to the Pope John Paul II shrine today. Simply because of slipping poll numbers across religious conservatives, which were caused by the Covid-19 reaction in the first place. Fed's massive 'Main Street' business rescue in danger of fizzling Lawmakers, business groups and analysts are warning that the lending program may fail to deliver the rescue to corporate America that it promised. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/02/fed-reserve-main-street-program-297149

  11. IMO, church and religion has nothing to do with the Corona virus thread. It seems like it is a sneaky way of inserting something even more divisive than politics into this discussion.

  12. I've never personally heard the connection. I knew they were all over Kelley. They could feel similarly or better about Abel I'm just not in tune to it. Callis linked them to all the preps and Shirley said they really like the HS pitching class on the call today.

  14. It really isn't all that hard. Wearing mask is not intrusive. Some people came to my house to do some repair work. They wore a mask. Not a big deal. And I would not have let them in without a mask. I can't control what goes on in public; I will control what goes on in my own home.

  17. I'm not "worried" but wondering. We have two active cases for weeks now. Our hospital may have to close because it has had so little business amid waiting for COVID cases. We had 2000 people all bunched close together with no masks Sunday night during the protest. Of course I'm wondering if we'll go from two cases to a lot more. I'm not discounting COVID exists. I disagree with almost everything the governor has done here but I wear my mask in situations where I'm showing respect. And I'm ordered to at church. Why wouldn't I be curious if a gathering of 2000 would spike our case total?

  18. I do have some concerns about Bailey that pushes him down the board. I don't like his swing. He has a deep load which means he pushes his hands back and that creates an arm bar and he does this from both sides of the plate. Arm bars are subjective as some will tell you there are hall of famers who had an arm bar but I feel it makes it very difficult to consistently barrel up an inside fastball. I also question his durability. Durability is one of if not the biggest qualities for a catcher. Big league catchers take an absolute beating and Bailey's not the biggest guy in the word. I'm not sure he's a guy that can consistently catch you 120+ games a season. I feel there will be much better options available at 1-11.

  19. Thanks for the insight. While prep selections with the 1st round pick are seemingly more exciting to me because it would be "different", I think I would be okay with an approach similar to last season. Grab the college arm or hitter first and then grab some of the more projectable prep arms/bats with picks 2 and 3.

  20. I’m confused. Haven’t you been advocating for public places to be opened? Now you are worried about a potential spread (due to protests)?

  22. Feels weird to have many stores opening up in Lawrence, Ks. We've only got 2 active cases now and only had 60 or so total at its worse. Should be interesting to see how it spikes after the protests. Also teams start arriving June 15.

  23. I think Stacey King once said, "If you're scared, buy a dog." If they end up making a safe pick here instead of a high upside risk I'm just going to go ahead and call the guy Lance Broadway regardless of whatever his name is. Then I'll wake up from this trade players for prospects / draft high / sign INTL FAs dream I'm having and realize I'm still a White Sox fan and it's still 2007-2015 or whatever.

  25. DeGrom was a SS in college who couldn't hit a lick. He didn't start pitching until his junior year and wasn't very good. He was drafted on arm strength and developed into one of the best pitchers in the game. It's a great story.

  29. I haven't heard this specifically but I think the White Sox will try to prioritize Cespedes during this upcoming period. Then you worry about Colas later. Nobody else has money either and his Japanese club believes that they own his rights. If his situation isn't solved this summer, they could theoretically just sign Oscar Colas using 2021 signing money and push his signing to that period. There likely won't be any minor league baseball anyway so it's not a huge deal at this point.
