An article in The Athletic put it a lot better than Me, although it was the mist of what I have been trying to say. The owners are capitalists when things are going well and socialists when times are a bit tougher.3 points

It's not frustrating at all. This was never going to be some free agent signing frenzy that for some reason people thought it would be. They have until Aug 1 to sign players. There is no rush. The only players signed are sr signs and a couple dumbass high schoolers. Fear not. They will sign guys you've never heard of and will never hear from again.3 points

Some of you must have sore backs carrying water for the owners. There is so much supposition on this thread, without having any facts in evidence. We all want to have MLB on TV this year. But I can't feature the socialization of losses for a group of @ssh0les that have all the advantages that MLB owners have. Carry on, then...3 points

You have never engaged in an honest and open discussion. You have never acknowledged anything despite all of your pretending to not understand things that just happened to all fall along a single partisan line. If you ever want to drop the dumb greg act there are plenty of people who will engage you in an open and honest exchange. Until then don't come in here and demand satisfaction on some point while pretending to have been a full intellectual participant in this discussion. The day you drop the greg act, and actually act like the real person you actually are people will treat you with a real level of respect again. Until then, take your demands and stick them with the rest of the trash.3 points

The owners want to implement a 48-54 game season. They can't do that right now though because there's time on the calendar for way more games than that. In fear that they'd lose the grievance, they are looking to prolong this even further. I'm sure they'll mandate a 54 game season in a couple weeks when that is theoretically the maximum number they could do based on the calendar.2 points

Time for everyone to call their reps and tell them to remove MLB's antitrust exemption2 points

I recapped the 2020 draft for the White Sox here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/13/premium-talent-the-focus-for-white-sox-in-2020-draft/ Premium talent was the focus but some trends seem to be forming for future years.2 points

3-5 years is way too big of sample size, IMO. Teams have changed a lot in 5 years. But maybe doing something like the combined records of 2019 + 2020 would be fair. Basically a 220ish game sample size.2 points

Steroids would have to save the game again.1 point

In case no one posted. Players: Fuck it. Just tell us when to play. Owners: No. You might tattle on us.1 point

Well said Quin. MLB needs to wake up and stop delaying things like this. This sport desperately needs to find ink time in the papers!! Keep the July signing periods and go Gods sake, gets this season started.1 point

I don't understand the mentality of trying to prove who is at fault. If mom and dad are not getting along I just want it to stop. Ask any kid whose parents split up. My peak moment was when I realized I have no need to prove whether I was right or wrong. The guy lying there with two bullets in his back must have felt the same way.1 point

Trevor Bauer is awesome and I want him in a Sox uni whenever baseball is to be played again. I'm not expecting baseball until 2023 at this point. 2020-2022 are fucked.1 point

https://t.co/g1O5vNRvGT Dan Hayes started a petition to remove Manfred. It’s gone from 20 signatures to 700+ in minutes and should reach its targeted million over night. ?1 point

I'm trying to find out what it means for the next period. It's stupid though because dates are arbitrary. All of these clubs have agreements in place for July 2 already. They won't become official until January now. All of these clubs also have agreements in place for July 2021. I would think that period stays the same because of the expiration of the CBA next December but we'll see. This could theoretically help the White Sox quite a bit though in their pursuit of Cespedes and Colas though.1 point

Wow. What a ******* shame. The players literally said "tell us when and where." They gave full unilateral power to their bosses to tell them what to do. And now Manfred is saying they might not play?? After just a few days ago saying 100% they will play? Wtf? How idiotic. What a sham this has turned out to be.1 point

That would be the only way to make sure they dont lose the grievance. The bastards.1 point

Thanks for the link. Our church has so few people the last five weeks at my Mass of choice it's really dumb to have Mass at all. We can't sing. It can't go more than 45 mins. Our go about 25 to 30 minutes with no music. The 25 peeps who have been going to my mass are all seated away from each other except there's a family of five up front in one row and a couple husband and wives together. I find myself not even concentrating on the Mass as it reminds me of when I was an altar boy as a kid working the 7 a.m. Mass with no music and no peeps in the crowd. I just concentrate on my relatives who have died and any friends who have died and pray for them. I don't see why we cant have music and a real Mass. Nobody's going amyway. Twenty two peeps in a huge old church are not many.1 point

I think the most fair thing would be combined 2019 and 2020 record. That way you do consider 2020 results but you are getting a decent sample size and the worst teams draft highest. For the sox that would of course be great as they were bad last year but projected to be better so with a combined record they could get like the 16th picks despite let's say their 2020 record giving them the 22nd pick (if they are that good hopefully).1 point

Del Castillo is a guy the Sox drafted in the 36th RD in 2018 out of HS. Pretty crazy that he's now being mocked to be a top 5 pick, even a year early.1 point

He was the first guy I thought of when this period began. Would be nice to have Nick's brother in the system. Sox are usually very good with reuniting blood lines.1 point

Owners. They signed a contract with the players and are now renegging on it after the players already agreed to concession. They want to spread their losses with the players but wont spread their gains. They come out with these completely unbelievable/incomplete financial figures to try and garner public support and shift blame onto the players.1 point

- Owners don't have to pay minor leaguers, which they long acted is a major expense. Hell, they've cut entire teams. - Owners don't need to do stadium operation costs. - Owners won't open the books - Owners keep proposing the same offer time and time again. They're bad faith negotiators who previously agreed to a deal. They could have possibly made profit if they started sooner, they didn't. This all lies at the feet at the owners.1 point
-
Maybe if owners hadn't insisted on paying minor leaguers poverty wages all these years, it'd be easier to listen them to cry poor.1 point

You are all for owners not having to lose any money, but seem to have no problem with the player supposedly guaranteed $20 million this season getting paid $6 million. Ken Rosenthal had a proposal which, if the owners are being straight, something most people find laughable, would cost them each $20 million this year. Or one year of James Shields. 72 games full pro rated salaries. Seems reasonable. If that is too much water for an ownership to take on, they need to get out of the business. https://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/#tab:overall1 point

Colas is almost exactly 3 years older than Bailey and has played at significantly higher levels of baseball than Bailey has. He is almost certaintly a better hitter, but that's not a fair question. Bailey might already have a better approach at the plate, but that's tough to say from one year playing in the DSL.1 point
