  1. It IS a largely partisan issue. One party is actively trying to sabotage this situation by disseminating information like you were quoting early.

  3. My thoughts: 2020 is in severe jeopardy due to Covid 2021 is going to have similar issues as 2020, unless somehow the president and certain governors correct their rectal-cranial inversion and take Covid seriously. CBA is up in 2022 and there is going to be a war, which was going to happen regardless of Covid. If the CBA wasn't up I'd say there'd be baseball in 2022 but both MLB and the NHL are going to have issues with the next round of negotiations. The NFL is very lucky they extended their CBA before Covid. Otherwise, they'd be in some shit too. The NBA is far enough away that they can get away with it. My optimistic side says that we might get an 82 game season in 2021. With the way things are trending, It's incredibly optimistic to think they're going to finish this season and they're going to start 2021 on time.

  6. That's literally how Texas justified re-opening stuff including athletic facilities, and now they have an out of control outbreak. So what is your state going to do that Texas didn't do to make sure that continues happening? Everything we're seeing right now was baked into the cake in May, so you wait weeks before you see the damage you did.

  13. Excuse me I was out of work 4 months due to a herniated disc in my back that affected my legs so severely I couldn't perform regular duties . I also have COPD , RA and cataracts in my right eye which means my immune system and lungs are also affected. I am also 62 years old. All those things combined puts me at high risk. Then my parent company finally found me work at the start of the pandemic. With all that's wrong with me what job did I get offered ? Custodial work. That's right cleaning up after everyone and being among my coworkers and the public . When everyone was at home and even the Los Angeles freeways were pretty empty I was on the front lines from the beginning. My first day on the job I got conjunctivitis in the same eye as the cataracts. SO don't you dare say I am living in a different world. I cannot live off past earnings. Even with all those things wrong with me, my age and being a custodial worker my health plan said I wasn't eligible for a Covid test. I only got a test after the hospital called me to say they had an opening to do my cataract surgery in 2 days so I had to get a test right away meaning I missed more work doing that then more after the surgery than a normal person would miss because the doctor knew the nature of my job and gave me more time off. Yes I and many common folks certainly are guinea pigs more so than the players. But if I die i'll just be a statistic . If some famous or even not so famous players dies it's big headlines and everyone questions why they didn't cancel the season and their methods to protect players. If I was a player good enough to live off past earnings I would opt out. Guess we will see if there really is a season that can be started and sustained without many casualties . Everyone is a lab rat. But only high profile people and companies get put under the microscope. I am now out of work again after 5 months doing that job because they filled the position i had with healthy person and I am still waiting for Workers Comp. to pay me for the 4 months i was off before that job offer.

  20. Well now that they have finally set a date, I guess we are able to discuss baseball again. I know there are a lot of people that aren't about this type of season and will probably step back and keep this season on in the background, I'm interested in seeing what this season will entail. How pitchers are used, how players are called up, in game actions, everything is going to be pressed into a small time frame. I'm actually excited to see how this all unfolds. players I'm really looking at in this scenario are Vaughn, Kopech, Rodon, Madrigal, Crochet, Burdi, Mendick and Encarnacion. lets talk some baseball again

  21. We've had possibly the strictest and longest lockdown, plus a slow, phased re-opening here in Illinois. I'm guessing you don't live here but our curve looks like what you see in Europe, not like Texas or Florida. And public health officials have had basically complete control over the re-opening process here. Comparing Illinois to states like Texas and Florida that locked down for about 10 days is pretty misguided. And obviously that are certain markers with regards to testing/cases that have to be met before attendance at outdoor sporting events here is possible. So just because the Sox plan on it, it doesn't mean it will happen. Ultimately the Illinois and City public health depts have to give the go ahead

  26. I think I know where you are coming from. What exactly are the odds of even finishing a season and crowning a World Champ ? Is it 50/50 ? What does everyone think ? If there is no World Series it does make sense to rid yourself of guys you aren't going to have next year especially if you start the season poorly such as 7 or more games under .500 after 20-25 games. Too short of a season to expect to make up ground. Trouble is you have to play to win. We all wanted to see the off season acquisitions Grandal, Keuchel .Mazara, Cishek, Encarnacion and Gio Gonzalez, combine with our prospects like Kopech. Robert and Madrigal ,combine with guys on the rise (or not) like Anderson, Giolito, Lopez, Cease, Moncada and Eloy. This season was going to be wonderful to behold if it had been normal. Now will be still fun because guys like Dunning and Rodon might pitch from the start of the season. Play for the trophy if you are going to play.Besides there's no guarantee that 2021 is going to be any better .

  27. Someone will always be in a slump . You play the best you got and hope for the best. That's what I would do In a short season. What would constitute a slump anyway ? If someone goes 0 for 10 or 15 they get benched ? The Sox didnt get the services of Encarnacion or Mazara to sit them. Just play match ups as best you can and do more pinch hitting according to match ups especially in situations where pitchers are forced to face hitters. The majority of Sox starters will be playing no matter who they face. Just about every position has some decent to good power except 2nd base. Some bombs come in real handy in late innings when you might be behind. If someone in the 3 hole starts slow you could move him down in the lineup rather than bench him. I might never take Robert out of the lineup even if he is struggling. There's no way I rather see Engel in CF or in the lineup over Robert. Sign Yasiel Puig !

  28. Sorry for the pain you've gone through. As a fellow human being who doesn't know you, I do care about what you've gone through. Hang in there. Fight for that workers comp and fight to get unemployment. If they filled your position you ARE likely eligible for unemployment. Hope you feel better and can work again someplace where you can put food on table.

  32. Some people heading into the Trump-Phoenix rally said they were not concerned about catching the virus because they thought published statistics were bogus. Yet, many Trump fans watch Fox News. Recently Fox aired a report of a fast food place supposedly attempting to poison New York City policemen by tampering with their milk shakes. There was no truth to the story, but Fox, as always, didn't fact-check the story and ran with things anyway. And knowing Fox, it didn't care how wrong they were. They accomplished what they wanted with the false report. Many who cry "Fake News" don't know what fake news really is, especially when it come to the virus. This ignorance only makes things worse.

  38. And HRC in 2016, and a “non-conspiracy” led by the DNC and this time establishment politicians like Clyburn in SC to prevent the likes of a progressive Sanders or Warren from winning. To me, it all comes back to the Birther movement, then Tea Party “revolution” over ObamaCare, McConnell’s comments about openly trying to prevent Obama from accomplishing anything and finally denying Merrick Garland, which has led to an imbalance in the SC that seems like is self-correcting in opposition to it being as political as the other two branches of government. But everything to do with oversight or accountability, Inspector Generals, the Southern District of NY/NJ, violations of the emoluments clause, countless allegations coming out in the Bolton book on transactional/rudderless foreign policy, the complete politicization of military/police/Defense Department and National Intelligence, totally unprecedented. Nixon doesn’t come close. We have gotten nowhere or ceded leadership to China on global trade, transportation modernization, climate change/environment, Belt and Road, foreign aid/lending, AI, mobile and 5G technology, science in general, the WHO, the UN, etc. Oh, and our health care system is still the most expensive in the world but ranks 30-35th for effectiveness, just like our K-12 public education system. And the state of public infrastructure around the country is in shambles. Our main advantages remaining are the university system, military, creativity/risk-taking/entrepreneurship, rights and freedoms, natural resources, isolation from rest of the world, global finance/reserve currency (HK, Dubai and London taking hits) and Silicon Valley. But $7 trillion in new spending to fight coronavirus isn’t going to help matters, as income inequality/wealth disparity continues to widen.

  39. I'm sayin! really though, Covid has owned our lives for three months. It looks like we may get a reprieve and a bit of normalcy back in our lives. It's going to be weird, it's going to be unsure, people are going to be mad at many different things on and off the field. I'm just happy to be able to watch and talk some baseball again, however it should look and play out

  40. I dont want to make this political, but the current President has gotten away with more lunacy than arguably every other President. I spent countless hours prior to his election pleading with people that what we have seen in the last 3 years is exactly what we would get if he was elected. If anything he has not been attacked enough, because there is simply not enough time in the day to go over everything he has done to harm the institutions of our nation. He has harmed even non-political institutions. There is simply no way to quantify the damage that has been done over the last 3 years and those who have attacked him should be credited.

  42. I'd encourage you to read up on baseball history. Not changing the rules and adapting doesn't lead to nostalgia, it leads to no fans. If anything they should be doing more rule changes ... this is a practice year essentially. Try anything and everything. They should be implementing every single rule that was on the table as a trial period. Keep the ones that work. Not like it matters though - baseball is dying. And will continue to do so into a niche sport until they change the rules about stepping out of the box. Keep the batters in the box between each pitch, shorten the game 30-45 minutes and you save the game.

  43. With our pitching depth I feel good about our chances. At the very least we get a good look at our young guys progressing. Might even win depending on how divisions are set up.

  44. The pitching decisions for 60 games in 61 days will be fascinating to watch. I think the Sox benefit from basically having 7 starters on the roster: Giolito, Kopech, Keuchel, Rodon, Lopez, Cease, and Gonzalez. With what also looks to be a strong backend of the bullpen, and a dangerous offense, I think the Sox are set up for success in this truncated season
