Re. mask use and the controversy ... I wear my mask everywhere and haven't done anything fun since March 12 when everything shut down. I abide by all rules. Thankfully I haven't got COVID yet. I'm one of those Americans who hate wearing my mask (masks, since I own about 20) but shut up and wear it anyway. I do, however, have a quick theory on the mask thing and why many of my fellow angry Kansans won't wear them. Remember how upset I was at the Kansas governor for being so bossy and not even listening to barbers, etc? Just a very defiant attitude in which she appeared high and mighty telling us minions what to do during the pandemic with NO discussion ever? Well ... I think there are a lot of people who do not get out of the house and take part in the massive protests attended by thousands nightly (and hundreds who leave their homes to live in autonymous zones), who pay their taxes a month ahead of time every year, do not ever rebel. These "model citizens" I feel just drew the line at the bossiness of government officials regarding masks. This is one thing they finally could stomach no more, and have freaked out. There are bossy government officials and celebs and peeps of all kinds on social media and TV yelling "wear the damn mask." Ever hear of the saying "kindness kills?" This was one issue there was anger and the mask-haters fought back and are still fighting back. I think my method would have worked ... a very kind campaign saying, "Out of respect for your neighbors and your fellow Americans, think about it long and hard and please wear a mask. We're all in this together. Let's beat COVID." I know a lot of you are just going to respond that I'm soft and a baby and I'm wrong because people need to be forcibly told things during a crisis ... I stand by my stance that kindness kills and in this one situation people have had enough (after locking themselves up 2-plus months, doing nothing fun, getting laid off work while at the same time watching THOUSANDS attend protests on TV in which "some people not most" wear masks. I think message boards are to examine all views and while what I've written may anger most of you, I think you might consider a good portion of Americans do indeed feel this way regarding masks and explains a bit their attitude of, "nobody tells me what to do in a free country!" Here's a feel good story during this time of so much anger and negativity in America. ... https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/us/assisted-living-pen-pals-north-carolina-trnd/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2020-07-04T06%3A16%3A06&utm_term=link&utm_medium=social4 points

Yeah, a lot of Americans are weak and trivial. You hear the childish and weak "You're not the boss of me" complaints over and over. Other, smarter nations listen to experts and put the masks on, and they've beaten back the virus. Their reward? They get their sports and their restaurants and other things people like back sooner. And then there's this whole politicization of science, where some mouthbreathing monkey morons from the right think that rhetoric can defeat a virus, or that global warming is a fukcing hoax. In sum? We have a nation with lot of mentally weak freedom freeloaders who never served their nation, being led by an imbecile who is weak and childish. As a veteran, I think we really need a fvkcing draft. This nation's response to COVID would be as if: 1. You took George Steinbrenner's budget for an MLB team, then 2.Hired Terry Bevington and Robin Ventura to manage and coach the team, then 3. Stupidly wonder why that team only wins 68 games.3 points

again this never happened, please stop spreading rumors that were started by twitter trolls.2 points

Admittedly, I was never into this game to begin with, but why have it this year? The extra travel, unfamiliar location, certainly a challenge for the estabished protocols, no fans. The state government of Iowa seems to be under the Trump administration’s spell that the pandemic ended because Trump needed to see people cheer him again at rallies. You are just asking for trouble. Just delay it until next year. Field of Pipe Dreams is what they should call it this season. Seems silly to risk 2 teams health for this.2 points

Just watched fireworks in a car with my kids because adults cant be responsible because of the "bossy govt." Maybe when they are older they'll purposefully fail a test because the teacher was bossy about studying and doing their homework. What a damn snowflake society weve become when we self sabotage because our poor feelings were hurt when someone was trying to save people from themselves. Happy 4th of July to every self entered bastard who couldn't make the smallest sacrifice asked of any generation in US history.1 point

I’d imagine part of it is we’re morbidly obese as a nation. I’d imagine that’s why a country like Japan is able to succeed with their Public healthcare system. They don’t need to perform gastric bypasses all day, everyday. Universal healthcare is easy when your people are generally healthy.1 point

The youngest brother is supposedly the best of the bunch. He’s rumored to the White Sox as well but an international draft could put a wrench in those plans.1 point

What kind of Twitter weirdo pretends to have info on a players personal life and replies to tons of people to relay that info. Trying to be the next Ken Rosenthal by pretending to know gossip lol1 point

This is where that guy got his information from too: lol and here he is this morning: Stop feeding twitter troll idiots.1 point

It didn't happen. The guy who was spreading that rumor and started it was literally on twitter this morning saying we'll never know the truth because the media won't cover it. He said "I hope we find out." He said he saw a tweet from a Riverdale coworker lol, and then talked to a "source close to the situation." He has 4 twitter followers, lives in a house with a television on the floor in his living room, and he has always lived in Illinois. The tweet never existed, and he never had a source.1 point

That tweet is almost certainly bullshit. This user claimed that Kopech had lost the will to play in a previous tweet and now is saying Kopech’s GF is pregnant and that’s why he’s going to sit out. It’s 99.9% likely this user is simply trolling.1 point

Maybe his wife or a close family member has COVID. I know Hahn said he’s health, but a covid relates cause seems more likely than this whole his heart isn’t in the game any longer business. In any event, I hope he’s alright and returns soon. But if he doesn’t, please option him and don’t IL if he doesn’t come back right away. He’ll eventually come back.1 point

Who's the Sox on the lower right with the sidearm delivery on long toss?1 point
-
I would assume it is because the Cardinals probably have the biggest fan base of any Central team not named the Cubs. And I doubt the MLB wanted to force the Sox & Cubs to travel when they can easily play their games in the same city.1 point

I don’t really buy the activism thing. He will have more of a voice and platform as an athlete. It’s honorable to want to be an activist for important topics but quitting MLB will weaken his influence in my opinion.1 point

Hard for me to put much stock in a supposed deleted tweet, especially without someone screen grabbing it somewhere. That aside, if Michael forgoes baseball to get into a full-time activism role somewhere, good on fucking him. What a noble and selfless pursuit. I would selfishly be sad that he's not pitching for my favorite baseball team for a bit, but I would also respect and be immensely proud of him.1 point

I went to starved rock last weekend. I am not huge on outdoor usage when you know you can make space, but there was maybe 2% mask usage including us. And it gets hard to avoid packs of people waiting to move. We just left and went back to camp. But the. Walking past the visitor center and other indoor areas they had signs with masks required and nobody had any. Where I live I don’t remember the last time I saw someone indoors without a mask.1 point

I’m as optimistic about Vaughn as the next guy, but come on. Abreu was a good hitting major league first baseman last year. Even draft year fatigue considered, Vaughn struggled in A-ball. If he can hit like Abreu as a finished product we should be happy.1 point

You definitely have the right attitude on this. In the end economic recovery is more important than peoples lives. What these governments fail to realize is that true economic recovery can't occur until people can move about again without fear. Short sightedness is the true enemy. Compare Covid to the story line in Jaws. The mayor and city council pressured the M.E. to change the cause of death of the 1st victim from shark attack to boating accident. Then they caught a shark and yay problem solved all for the sake of economics because it was tourist season. Very short sighted and foolish thinking and as we watch Jaws we all realized that. Covid is Jaws. It's Jurassic Park. It might not be as obvious or frightening to us as a Great White Shark or T-Rex but the devastation is just as tragic.1 point

The governments of Texas, Florida, and Arizona declares that things were safe in April. They got praise from the president repeatedly, and Texas’s governor said he got specific approval for his reopening timeline from Dr. Birx. How’d that work out?1 point

20% is the giveaway it isn’t very safe. There is no way to social distance going into the park, leaving the park, going to the bathroom, at concession stands...Once they give the all clear for normal activity, that is when I will return. Until then, I have a great TV. Mask wearing will also be an issue. I am sure they will require them, but people will take them off when they sit down.1 point
