  1. When the time comes...I don't want a "group"...just one very rich guy who can't stand losing. A person who is willing to spend the money and hold the executives accountable for results.

  6. Let me stop you after the first line. Did you ever have kids? Do you remember your parents at all? When they/you were about to something that could endanger your life was their much of a dialogue? "Well son, I know smoking crack feels good in the moment, but remember..." Hell no. This isn't a two way discussion. There are about 140,000 people dead, and a segment of the population STILL doesn't believe this is real, yet you have hurt feelings about government officials being too tough? GTFOH. Then to try to falsely equate public health to public protests? Thanks for trolling.

  7. Jack - I’m honestly not trying to be a dick, but are you completely insane? Do you recall yourself panicking over a bunch of Moncada strikeouts to start spring training? If anyone is going to freak out over a slow start it’s going to be you.

  13. So when a crisis hit they decided to do their job and actually be leaders? And comparing this to them "allowing" the protests to happen. I don't think they had much of a choice there. They attempted to control and contain them as much as they could but there was no way they were going to stop them from happening. It'd be like stopping an ocean wave from hitting the shore.

  14. This to me is a forgotten team in White Sox history. And I'm wondering if everyone else thinks so, and if so, why? They are still the highest scoring team in the 2000's. They finished with the best record in the AL and had the best record pretty much all year from May on. In June, they steamrolled the Indians and Yankees, their main competition for the best team in the AL, in a couple of home and home series that cemented they were the best team in the AL that year. I think many people today remember this team as a team that could hit but didn't have any pitching. Untrue. At the halfway point, they were 2nd in the AL in ERA. Their top 4 starters ERA's read as follows. Sirotka 3.78, Parque 3.86, Baldwin 3.88, and Eldred 3.91. And the league AVG ERA for that season was 5.28. The only reason they were second at this point was Pedro Martinez's incredible performance had Boston atop in ERA. As far as wins go, Baldwin and Eldred had 10 wins. Parque and Sirotka were at 8 each. The teams record was 52-29. That means Baldwin and Eldred each were on pace to win 20 games, and Parque and Sirotka 16. And, of course as I mentioned, they had the best offense baseball has seen since the 21st century began. AND their main hitters, Frank Thomas, Magglio Ordonez, Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee, all of whom had better seasons in their careers then this one. So no one can use the "career year" label here. So what happened? What happened was their pitching staff blew apart with injuries. It began on July 14th when Eldred blew out his elbow and effectively ended his season. Then throughout the course of the season EVERY SINGLE ONE of these 4 guys went down with serious injury. And long term. Bad enough that Sirotka never pitched again and Baldwin and Parque were never the same again. And the bullpen wasn't spared either. Simas and Barcelo never pitched again because of injury and Wunsch and Howry were effected. Yet they still finished 4th in ERA. By the time the playoffs came around their entire staff was in shambles. They lost to Seattle partly because I think their young hitting felt a bit of pressure, but there was no way they could have gotten any further or won in the post season because of the shape their staff was in. Parque started Game 1 and it was said later he wouldn't have been able to start another game afterwards and Baldwin gallantly started Game 3 but he really probably shouldn't have. Am I the only one who remembers this? Why isn't this team more revered? The 1977 South Side Hit Men team is fondly remembered, and rightfully so and by myself mind you, but that team didn't win a title. They finished 12 games out. This team did. Is it because they fell apart in the playoffs and what happened between this year and 2005 when the Twins used their small ball approach to success? Maybe if this teams pitching didn't fall apart to injury so thoroughly, which contributed greatly to their failures between 2000 and 2005, things might have been different. I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.

  16. I'm sorry but you cannot ignore the extensions of Moncada and Robert when you figure out whether that was or was not an awful contract for Abreu. You cannot look at the contract in a vacuum without taking into account the entirety of the situation with the ball club and its future imho.

  22. Per Rich Miller (Capital Fax guy/Illinois politics reporter heavy hitter), Illinois has roughly 1/3 of the number of contact tracers we need currently. Gotta ask again, how on earth did we get to Phase 4 while clearly not meeting the requirements for contact tracing? JB was really strong out of the gate on this, but since about mid-June, he's caved to a lot of pressure to reopen. It's inexcusable to still have bars and indoor dining open. Opening the schools is going to be a huge disaster.

  33. I was really hoping for Kopech infusion, and maybe that still happens, as I believe players can opt back in as they want, but I am going to go with 33-27. The team does seem to be still enjoying each other and having some fun even with all of the craziness going on.

  34. Sox Record 35-25. I guess we missed the BOLD Predictions portion of our off season. Robert and Dunning neck and neck for ROY. Dunning moves into a starting roll before game 25 replacing someone who was injured or not effective. Sox lead the AL in HR's. Sox win the World Series. Crochet gets a save in the clinching World Series game. World Series MVP Luis Robert RR signed to lifetime extension.

  35. Lake Zurich HS is already fighting an outbreak. 36 students who participated in summer training camp activities have tested positive. They believe the exposures for many if not most occurred prior to the camps, but that these kids participated and may have spread it to other students. https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20200714/36-lake-zurich-high-students-test-positive-for-covid-19 This is 36 cases in one high school before classes even start and we cram hundreds into indoor spaces for hours on end. Hong Kong shut down again over 45 or so cases across the entire city of 7.4M. Now imagine these cases were discovered Day 1 of in-person classes at Lake Zurich HS. How many hundreds of staff and students would now need to go get tested and then isolate until they got their test results back? What's the plan to cover for all the quarantined staff? Now multiply that out to every school in the state and ask yourself "how are we going to substantially increase our testing capacity and shorten the lead time?" Quest and LabCorp, the two biggest testing labs in the country, are now saying results can take as long as 10 days. What do you think that lag will look like once we massively increase potential exposures all across the country as schools reopen?

  37. Not a bad post. I read it. I respect your takes. I know it's not your main point but as a side note here ... some of us Americans do feel like the barber is treated as the enemy. Why? Cause the protestors in our autonymous zone were allowed to break the law for a week (defacing some property; breaking a few windows; verbally assaulting people; physically assaulting a car; busting curfew by being in the zone 24/7; trashing up the zone; painting messages on the street without city hall approval). Meanwhile the barber can't open a shop with masks, pristine cleanlliness, him willing to discuss his plans for cleanliness and very few people in the shop with the government. Instead, he's warned go ahead and open up and you will be ticketed every day, maybe arrested. Yes some of us consider the barber the enemy of our governor and mayor when others can break the law in the name of protesting and it's ... oh well, people do things (Nancy's line). Please accept my comments in the nature they were intended. Honest.

  38. For some reason I expected a dialogue since I voted for them or against them at the polls at least. These government officials were holding daily news conferences for a while and in my opinion (that's all an opinion) they set the tone of defiance and them against us (not working with us) early. They still won't even address the subject of protests in the streets nightly versus having 20 people at a funeral. When a crisis hit like Covid, they decided to be bold and unrelenting. Their call; I think it was the wrong one when they've taken such a passive attitude toward violence of protestors. Americans aren't dumb; they get upset at bossy public officials and inconsistencies. Don't freak out if you disagree with me please; life is short and maybe my brain works differently than yours. At least I'm honest about my feelings.

  39. How old are you? Because there are probably zero professions right now where you can just "skip work" and be paid over coronavirus concerns. Everyone is concerned about the virus but unless you have a legit reason like being high-risk, good luck getting paid for just being worried about it. I mean, you'd have zero people working if you could get paid and skip work over this.

  41. Is anyone beginning to think the entire reaction to the wuhan flu is a big hoax? I don't get out much, as I work from home, but it seems like a lot of the reaction is just a desperate attempt to get rid of Trump, and maybe the supporters of quarantining are just happy that something bad has happened during the best presidency in the history of country.
