Am I the only one that feels like at most $999,999,999 lost across two pro franchises isn't that much considering their traditional (expected) annual profit? If the owners hadn't been so adamant on the players waiving the right to argue that the owners negotiated in bad faith, they could have gotten extra playoff money.2 points

Why would you have such a pessimistic view on Zack Collins hitting? Granted his first sixty at bats in the majors were putrid with a .420 OPS...but his last forty at bats he had an .950 OPS...in Spring training this year he had a 1.200 OPS, at AAA last year he had a .950 OPS, in three years in College at Miami he had a 1.000+ OPS. You know who else missed fastballs? Babe Ruth. Come on...he's only 24 and there are LOTS of data points suggesting he could be an elite hitter.2 points

It's almost like having heath insurance tied to having and keeping a FT job is a bad idea and we should come up with a different system...2 points

So first of all, what data are you using to support the claim her businesses and philanthropy has done more than anyone in government? That is a wild claim. Second, you wouldn't call this a pandemic? What in the world? What is your definition of a pandemic and how does this not fit it?2 points

Yeah - Rodon is probably the rustiest of the entire bunch, so you have to figure he'll be behind everyone else. The fact that he's out there getting work in - that is most important.2 points

Gio Gonzo pitched 3 2/3 gave up a run on oppo HR by Vaughn. Dunning went 2 2/3 gave up a run on a single by Leury, a swinging bunt hit by Timmy, walk and a wild pitch, they ended the inning on the wild pitch despite there being only 2 outs. Figured he threw enough pitches i suppose since he gave up 3 walks 4 hits and K'd 2. Colome, Marshall, Cordero, Fry ,Bummer and Heuer all pitched Game was over after 6 innings. Ended in a 1-1 tie.1 point

I'm right with you on the optimistic route. When I feel like arguing I know I've stuck up for Collins and Mazara very strongly. I've seen some smart hitting from Madrigal and Mazara in the scrimmages, I know spring training performance should be taken with a grain of salt but Collins has quietly shown tremendous power and a good eye for the strike zone. It's never a bad thing when a guy can be .100 higher in his OBP than his BA. We are all guilty of seeing good and bad spring performances and letting them reinforce how we feel about certain players despite what we know about SSS. Like I keep waiting for Eloy to show me a little more in summer camp while singing the praises of Lambert and Dunning. But yet when I post i only show my optimism and quietly wait for Mt. Eloy (that awful name given by Benetti ) to erupt .1 point

Kansas City and Douglas County/Lawrence Kansas are surging with new cases and deaths. Seriously, folks, what is going on and can we curb this? Please just don't crack a one liner and say wear a mask. I mean is this the end of the world? We are being swamped with new cases and the students aren't even back yet. I'm thinking we're doomed since it's not even virus season. I'm also started to get bored and restless again. Day after day month after month only drudgery. Folks, WTF is going on with Covid?1 point

I'm pretty sure about 14 months ago you would have had Giolito and Moncada on the top of the list of people saying they suck and will never amount to anything. I suppose its part of sports to jump into the debate and feel smart if the guy doesn't pan out. I just prefer the optimist route...and I feel like if Collins was a prospect for the White Sox...all else equal...in say 2004...we would have been SOOO excited about him. But because we have so much to be excited about Zack has become the poster boy for "can't hit, can't field, he'll never make it".1 point

We all know there are factions here who like or dislike Collins, Madrigal, Lopez and Mazara . Those are probably the top 4 as far as many not thinking they will ever be any good. I believe in all 4. I don't like playing scout and judging on past performance as an indicator of future success for young players. Of course not all will ever reach their potential but at least I feel good about being in their corner.1 point

Again, that's not what Jerry Reinsdorf said. He said nothing about the other teams. He specifically said that his franchise was going to take "losses" that were in the "9 figures". I currently find those numbers to be false and unsupportable.1 point

Im not a scientist but id think being exposed to hundreds of people a day is more risky than 15. If they want protecive gear, thats fine. And teachers last year didnt show up for 2 weeks while they struck, for the last 2 months I taught my child exclusively besides for less than 10 20 minute google meets. All of the course work was print outs from the internet and links to websites. If all they are doing is espark and ixl every day with me doing all of the instruction do you think teachers should take a pay cut? Edit And how quickly someone can be replaced has nothing to do with safety. Its taking an elitist position based on leverage of skill. Even if a grocery bagger can be replaced eaiser, it doesnt mean they deserve less protection.1 point

This is easier done with the Forbes numbers. Last year's revenue at the gate estimated by Forbes was $46 million. That all goes away clearly. Last year's player salaries $120 million. Cut that by 60% since they get 2/3 of a season and that's $70 million in savings. Obviously revenue down substantially from advertising and from people buying stuff at the ballpark, but costs down by a nearly comparable amount since they never hired the seasonal staff at the ballpark. The expenses on "everything other than the players" estimated by Forbes for this franchise were $99 million. Without having to open the ballpark to the public, let's just conservatively estimate that costs are down 50% - still leaves $49 million to pay all the rest of the staff. TV Revenues down, but playoff revenue still expected. So if the owner is claiming $100 million in losses, and payroll is down by $70 million, and opening the ballpark costs are down by $50 million, and last year their total costs were $220 million, the only way to square that equation is to have total revenue this season be $0. https://www.forbes.com/teams/chicago-white-sox/#67492a476e871 point

I think Madrigal is the starting 2nd baseman on opening day. He is this teams best at the position and that is what will count in the end. Others said Robert and or Moncada wouldn't sign an extension because they already had enough money to gamble on themselves. Those people taking that view were wrong. TA signed one after being brought up and playing for a while. RH will get it done IMO.1 point

https://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/betsy-devos-michigan-school-experiment-232399 He’s wrong on everything. Look at the record in Michigan. Or look at her record protecting the interests of financial institutions over borrowers. Look at how much harder it is to qualify for forbearance. Look at how many profit machine online schools with little job placement success are being gifted hundreds of millions of dollars in PPP money. Look at the disproportionate number of ex military as well as black and Hispanic students being taken advantage of by false advertising claims by those online schools. Some charter schools with billionaires funding them do perform better, but that’s not scalable...the majority struggle financially, have significant corruption issues and siphon off money from public schools. How would they be open to the entire public? That’s laughable. Sure, a voucher for $5000 will magically allow everyone to pay $12500-17500 in tuition. Brilliant. It will help maybe 25-30% of middle school parents, perhaps, but the other 70-75% will be MUCH worse off than previously.1 point

This is the problem with talking to reporters. Would it be better if he just answered no comment. People would rip him for not talking to the public then.1 point

I didn't say democratic, I said democrat. All you have to do is read definition of communism now and it will make sense. She's done more for teaching underpriveleged children than anyone in government. Just look at her businesseses, look at the philanthropy, and she's been a pioneer in successful private schools that would be open to the entire public under her school voucher plan. School choice would be an awesome solution to our current issue, I won't go so far as to call it a pandemic like you have.1 point

I can appreciate that JR is concerned about the 2021 season. I am concerned too. Loss of revenue is real and it's a real challenge for the business bottom line. I'm also concerned about paying my bills, and keeping my apartment, and my bank account, and my long term employment prospects after the decimation of my entire industry. But only one of us will be gainfully employed today, tomorrow, and in the coming year before a vaccine is readily available. So forgive me if I find the timing of these articles/interviews rather distasteful and unsavory while so many of us are trying to figure out our livelihoods in the now and the immediate future...1 point

I disagree. Everything he said is a fact. They are no different than any other business owner. They have drastically reduced revenues for this year. This will alter the operating budget for next year. I don't see what the issue is for some people. He didn't complain that he can't go to Europe or buy a new mansion. A reporter asked in this pandemic will effect next year and he replied that he is worried that it will.1 point
