Oh well, can’t win em all. Keuchel was awesome and the Sox caught a couple of bad breaks.4 points

Unfortunately the weather goes both ways. Healy probably has a 3 run homer in the 3rd if the ball carried better.4 points

Random observation but it's awesome how lively Soxtalk has been this season. I went 4-5 hours between visiting the site and nearly the entire Pale Hose Talk section featured threads with unread posts/pages. Not to mention, game threads get more than 5-6 replies before first pitch. I don't recall it being this energetic since 2016 (aside from the first few days of every season)3 points

Did you watch the game? Madrigal slid ass first and jammed his arm.3 points

That is a pretty funny thing to say about a guy with a 10.2% BB rate, I mean he's striking out a lot but it's hard to blame him when he's a 23 year old rookie seeing sliders low and away 34.2% of the time and the team wants him to have an aggressive approach since that's when he's most dangerous.3 points

Watching MLB, and I see that John Jay is with Arizona and just hit the ten year mark for service time.2 points

Houser is how Dylan Covey was SUPPOSED to be. Lots of Roy Halladay similarities, not quite the same stuff, but power guy.2 points

Why does someone about Robert have to turn into something about Tatis and others? Try enjoying what is right in front of you.2 points

A little story about what happened with AJ in a similar situation when he was with the Giants.2 points

I liked the Keuchel signing when they did it, but he has been much better than I thought.2 points

Wasn't there a certain poster here who was saying Abreu only hit meaningless RBI's?2 points

Probably closer to 3-4. The surgery would be a cleanup.2 points

The drop-off in talent could be worse in the middle infield, but I hope they bring in a defense-first bench piece for the infield. Everyone on the infield (maybe even Madrigal) can hit above league average, so I'd like to see a guy that can make every defensive play fill in when needed. Maybe Yolbert Sanchez can become the new Yolmer next year2 points

Robert's MLB/AL ranks among rookies: WAR: 1.0 (1st/1st) OWAR: 6.0 (1st/1st) (just ahead of Kyle Lewis) DWAR: 2.1 (1st/1st) (by almost double) AVG: .364 (4th/2nd) (Kyle Lewis ahead in AL) OBP: .429 (3rd/1st) SLG: .568 (5th/2nd) (Kyle Lewis again) wOBA: .431 (5th/2nd) (Kyle Lewis) wRC+: 188 (4th/2nd) (Kyle Lewis) SB: 4 (1st/1st) HR: 2 (2nd/2nd) (Kyle Lewis has 3) Robert's .500 BABIP is obviously unsustainable (though he'll likely always have a high BABIP) but Kyle Lewis is at .577 and doesn't have nearly the speed. NOTE: some of the NL rookies ahead of Robert and Lewis have only played 6 or 7 games while they've played 11 and 12 respectively, qualification is all fucked up this year.2 points

You're complaining about arbitrary numbers in a sport divided into nine innings of 3 outs each where 3 strikes is an out but 4 balls is a walk?2 points

Indian's starting pitching is very good but will they score enough runs? It would be nice if the Sox can hold them off and grab one of the 2 division spots instead of fighting for the Wild Card.1 point

Well, the other way to look at this is we basically have to go 23-26 the next 49 games. Whether we have the type of staff to win a sudden death or playoff series, let's not get too ahead of ourselves just yet. I picked TEN below to trade for this season or look to sign during the offseason. Starting Pitchers Brett Anderson (33) Chase Anderson (33) – $9.5MM club option with a $500K buyout Chris Archer (32) – $11MM club option with a $250K buyout Jake Arrieta (35) Homer Bailey (35) ***Trevor Bauer (30) Tyler Chatwood (31) Anthony DeSclafani (31) Mike Fiers (36) ***Kevin Gausman (30) Gio Gonzalez (35) — $7MM club option with a $500K buyout Cole Hamels (37) J.A. Happ (38) — $17MM vesting option Rich Hill (41) ***Merrill Kelly (32) — $4.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Corey Kluber (35) — $17.5MM club option with a $1MM buyout Mike Leake (33) — $18MM mutual option with a $5MM buyout Jon Lester (37) — $25MM mutual/vesting option with a $10MM buyout ***Mike Minor (33) Matt Moore (32) Charlie Morton (37) — $15MM vesting option Jimmy Nelson (32) — $2MM club option (can become $9MM mutual option based on innings total) Ivan Nova (34) ***Jake Odorizzi (31) ***James Paxton (32) Martin Perez (30) — $6.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Rick Porcello (32) ***Jose Quintana (32) ***Robbie Ray (29) ***Garrett Richards (33) Tyson Ross (34) Jeff Samardzija (36) Anibal Sanchez (37) — $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout Drew Smyly (32) ***Marcus Stroman (30) Masahiro Tanaka (32) Michael Wacha (29) Taijuan Walker (28) Alex Wood (30) Jordan Zimmermann (35)1 point

That said, with this offense, he's the perfect pitcher to keep them in games....giving up 2-3-4 runs per start, but usually not getting blown out of the water. It's not like there are many "magic bullet" solutions out there that don't have a bundle of flaws or aspects of their game we can't pick apart. What we can't afford is a repeat of the 2000-2004 revolving door of garbage 5th/6th/7th starters.1 point

Are you purposely trying to offend us Yermin fanboys because ignoring him as the obvious replacement. I think those who deny Yermin's potential are afraid to see him get his shot because they will look stupid when he rakes.1 point

Bullpen has been outstanding. Colome has been tough on the nerves but ultimately effective. The only guy with issues seems to be Cishek.1 point

Giolito becoming the stopper (or extender) is honestly something I never saw happening. Whatever he's found mentally it's pretty impressive. Gutsy outing from him tonight he didn't necessarily have his best stuff but he dialed it up when he needed it.1 point

Awesome win - hope the injuries that have piled up in Mil over past 2 days turn out to be minor in nature. Real good pitching, some timely hitting (and reality is they could have had some more runs - but fact is they are consistently getting guys on base - even against some real good pitching tonight) and the pen, man, nails again. This team is fun! Baseball is fun again!1 point

81/85 fastballs/change-ups last start. Robert is a WALKING machine. He passed Tim Anderson's rookie season total already.1 point

Good news. People may think he sucks, but he’s better than the other alternatives we currently have.1 point

His home run calls are the absolute worst. However, just not having Hawk call them, is going to be a huge downgrade, no matter who is calling them. But, aside from that, he's good. I'd rather have some false WAY BACKS, because when one goes over and the YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YES happens, it's even more awesome.1 point
