  1. I am requesting that start times be included in game threads. It used to be standard.

  2. I ask again, why is there such a vocal segment of posters who think Collins is so bad at catching that he can't even get a game here and there? Aside from his form on that wild pitch in the first inning, he looked fine back there, called a clean game, and even stole a few key strikes. Not sure why he can't be penciled in as our backup catcher next year

  4. For a guy drafted where he was and all the hard work he has obviously put in, he should enjoy every second and how ever he wants.

  5. Someone here had to make this right? This pops into my brain every time there's a bullpen meltdown. Then I watch it and laugh. Still great after all these years. But I seriously want to thank whoever made this.

  9. Yea, La Pantera, awesome nickname. LuBob sounds like a fucking used tractor salesman in Arkansas.

  10. LuBob is almost as bad of a nickname as HoT FiRe or where ever the random caps were.

  11. Makes sense, I just couldn't tell if you were trying to imply that Eloy will remain like this forever. I'm still quite optimistic that he has a 6-7 year run of .300/.350/.580 kind of years. Hope your week gets better

  12. As I said in another post, I am very comfortable with him as a catcher. He makes a great option to have.

  13. He's going to be our backup catcher. I would love to keep McCann but he wants to be a teams primary catcher and someone will pay him to be so. If Dunning is staying in the rotation, make Collins his personal catcher for the rest of this season imho.

  24. The Happy Medium was to get this under control in the spring nationwide before the virus became endemic and out of control everywhere. Then, if a school district was in an area with a flare-up, that specific school district could shut down/go virtual for a limited time until the outbreak was under control. It would still have required herculean efforts to limit cases coming through the doors and limit spread when they do, but it could have been done. When you're driving towards a cliff, a happy medium is "turning off at any point before you go over the cliff". Once you have gone over the cliff, it's too late to ask for a happy medium.

  25. They certainly helped, but I always like to think the player is the one who put the work in. This team in general is a glowing endorsement for the new drafting and PD team, even though some Sox fans would never admit that: Mendick Anderson Engel Burdi Foster Heuer Marshall Robert Collins Cease Dunning now It's hard to argue with the PD being trash anymore.

  28. Alright boys, today is the third game of four against the Tigers and the Sox have a chance to take the series with a win today. The Sox have won three straight and have vaulted themselves to the 7th playoff spot, sitting 1.5 game behind the Indians for 2nd place in the Central. With a series against a tough Cubs team this weekend, we can’t afford to take our feet off the neck of a weak Tigers’ club yet. We need to keep beating up these bottom dwellers and building ourselves a little cushion. Today’s pitching matchup should be a fascinating one. Two well regarded pitching prospects are finally making their major league debuts. For the Sox that would be Dane Dunning, a former top 100 prospect (before TJS) who was outstanding in the minors. While he doesn’t have elite fastball velocity, his combination of pitchability, a diverse set of quality offerings, & a bulldog mentality creates a pitcher who is far greater than the sum of their individual parts. IMO, he has a real chance of becoming a legit #3 starter in the majors. As for the Tigers, they will be starting right-handed Casey Mize, the 1st overall pick of the 2018 draft and consensus top 20 overall prospect. Mize is a kid with real “ace” upside, throwing four above average pitches and actually being able to command all of them. His main weapon is a 70 grade splitter that Jim Callis once referred to as “one of the most devastating pitches in baseball”. Let’s hope the Sox have done their homework on him, as I can see both his splitter & slider poising real challenges for us. Again, today should be a fun one. With Robert likely out, we should see Luis Gonzalez’ first major league start. He had himself a memorable major league debut last night that included a missed catch, an outfield assist, a HBP, a mini base-running blunder, and a run scored. Can he top himself tonight? We shall see, but we could definitely use an unsung hero tonight against what could be a tough pitcher for our RH bats. Let’s fucking go boys!!!!

  29. I think the problem was no one was willing to consider worst cast scenerio. And we have worst case scenerio. First we were told this isn't going to bother us at all. Then it was going away quickly. Then it was going away when the weather warmed up. Then it would be fine by Easter, then Pence said by Memorial Day, the Coronavirus will be behind us. I have been working from home since the middle of March. At first I figured 2 or 3 weeks tops and we would be back. Then our CEO send an email saying it looked like June or July until we were all back in the office. Now they said October, staggered and optional. I think many of us anticipated a governmental failure, but not of this magnitude. Our response has been one of the worst in the world. And we still have enough people who think if we just deny it exists or isn't a danger, it will go away.

  30. To be honest - doesn't that sound like college? haha. Go to class for an hour - maybe skip it. Drink on Tuesday at noon at the bar. Go to class at 5pm. Surf the internet during class on my laptop. Go home, read the whole book and teach myself everything, ace the standardized test get a 4.0 and get a good job. Hell, kind of sounds like work nowadays. Wake up, workout, mow the lawn at 10am, maybe have an afternoon beer with my lunch, go to the grocery store. Work my 8 hours whenever I feel like it, ace my work, be responsive and responsible for myself, and keep climbing the corporate ladder. Problem isn't the kids, its the archaic way we teach children. And also the archaic way of thinking that we need to be in cubicles to perform our jobs.

  31. Yikes. If you want me to make it simpler I will: an eloy that slashes 250/310/550 is functionally equivalent to what Avi contributed. Man I swear some of you guys try and play "gotchas" when it's you getting got. My point of course of the Fangraphs "trade value" column, and I've made this for awhile is that projected WAR is not at all how MLB GMs evaluate trades. It's a component sure, but it's not even close to the main one, and it's almost ALL FGs uses in their rankings. Look at the fat, out of shape and sloppy and oh by the way isn't hitting Vlad Jr and tell me he's more valuable at this moment than TA around MLB. With a straight face? Come on fangraphs.

  34. Terrific analysis, Ray. Thanks. Adding those abilities and pure smarts in the box with his leadership makes him invaluable to the White Sox. Like either Steve or Jason said last night, it is no coincidence that the team starting winning again when TA was back in the lineup.

  36. I said last night two things really stuck out to me; 1. Anderson moved his feet in every single at bat; sometimes pitch to pitch based on the count. That is understanding how you're being attacked and pitched on another level. Most guys aren't moving around that much in the box. 2. The home run he hit; I went back and watched it frame to frame. Anderson didn't even move his hands towards the zone until the ball was 6-12 inches in front of the plate. That's hand speed you just don't see everyday; it's truly remarkable. It's hard to see, but look at the still below: He doesn't even bring his hands and bat forward until the pitch is basically over the plate. There are probably only 5 guys in the game who can react that late; which is exactly why he dominates now. He sits on off speed the entire game and reacts to fastballs because his hands are so quick. Almost no one else can do that; that's why he crushes off-speed stuff.

  40. I just want to say I absolutely love this Forum! I stay updated everyday, and only share my thoughts when I feel needed. For some reason the Dane Dunning start tomorrow seems extra exciting. Yes, the Sox are feeling it offensively. Yes, it will be a very rare "Debut v.s. Debut" start...But through such a weird, and (at times) frustrating season, it has been nice to see alot of young players get innings and at bats. The future of this team's offense seems undoubtedly exciting. The bullpen has shown alot of promise and us fans are excited! On the contrary the starting pitching has had questions. I am more optimistic than most. Cease starts off 4-1 and Keuchel is pitching like an Ace. Hopefully Michael Kopech will be ready to go next spring, and Garret Crochet seems like a pitcher that could surprise alot and make it to the big leagues very quickly. With that said, I am really rooting for a guy like Dane Dunning, because he might round out the very future of the WS rotation. The future is here. Go Sox! Lets get sweep the Tigers and move onto the Scrubs. 2021/2022 Rotation? 1.Dallas Keuchel 2.Dylan Cease 3.Lucas Giolito 4.Dane Dunning 5.Michael Kopech/Garett Crochet

  41. I'd give EE up until the next Twins series to get it going. If he can't hit the Tigers, Royals and Pirates he's done. At that point, DFA him and give McCann/Collins those ABs.

  43. The idea is that Eloy/Abreu are hitting the ball hard, but it doesn't yield as many results because lower launch angles mean more ground balls. Objectively, ground ball hitters have less success than line drive/fly ball hitters, for the most part. I'm not worried about it with Eloy, however, as even despite the low launch angle, all of his underlying stats are very encouraging. Even with his impressive numbers, he has been unlucky this year
