  2. I am someone who welcomes hot takes, and I think the whole purpose of the game thread is venting and hot takes. But the best part of hot takes is pointing out how stupid they were and ho boy did it take all of 10 min for some hot ass takes to look so, soooo stupid

  6. People always say that you can't DH the other catcher. The chances of McCann getting injured are pretty slim. Roll the damn dice and play them both.

  10. What a stupid ass lineup but that's what we've come to expect. Grandal's bat is white hot and there is a tough righty on the mound so of course Rick puts Edwin 4th. Edwin coming in with a robust 83 wRC+ against RHP.

  11. McCann is a great success story for the White Sox. Grandal is a great indication that the White Sox believe in this rebuild and that they are close enough to start loading up on pieces that fill holes long term. It is really too bad that for some reason McCann has turned into having a cult-like following, that spoils these two succcesses.

  13. It is pretty simple. If he gets hot during October, the White Sox can surprise and he becomes a legend. If he stays inconsistent and strikes out in key moments, it was a good FA idea that didn't pan out and he is no longer a White Sox player. The terms of his contract were perfectly orchestrated with Vaughn's timing and potential to free up some $$$ off the books for 2021. It is going to be an interesting next 3-4 weeks. I really wish he would be batting 6th though.

  14. We’re 70% of the way through the season and hes been a replacement level player. People on here complaining about mazara, yet atleast he has a positive WAR. Encarnacion is the one guy we should not be “relaxed” about given where hes hitting in the lineup

  15. I'm not sure how these people catch this (when it isn't even true) and somehow miss McCann's 3 catchers' interferences in just 20 games caught (Grandal has 0), or McCann having twice as many errors as Grandal despite playing 63 fewer innings. I hate that this fanbase is making me want James McCann, a pretty solid player, to leave the team in FA so that these debates can end

  17. NY at Oak; Tor at Min Cle at TB; Hou at Sox Sox magic number is 8 over Orioles and Tigers. (Technically it’s 9 over Baltimore, but they’ll never catch the Sox division record)

  24. I don't talk about other people I post what I feel in the moment. Somehow my "MT ELOY" post, as I had obviously turned the game back on was lost in the dunking. Anyways, back to shit I care about like Sox baseball not Internet dopamine hits or apologizing for saying dumb shit on a fucking game thread on a fucking sports forum in fucking 2020.

  30. I've been as harsh on him as anybody and his mental state is obviously not great but if I was going up there with his stuff I'd look scared too. It's not simply that he's a headcase with talent -- there's no talent. Pitcher true talent level changes rapidly in today's training environments. If you don't put in the work in the pitching labs in the offseason, or even if you do but aren't able to harness the instruction and take it to gameday, you're not gonna survive. His true talent right now is AAAA guy. He should probably just have been waived and traded for a PTBNL or cash before he gets non tendered and is lost for nothing this offseason. He's not even going to be worth the 1.5-2 million he'll get in arb.

  34. I keep hearing about the relative strength of schedules between the Sox, Indians, and Twins, so I decided to crunch some numbers using their weighted strength of schedules. A weighted strength of schedule accounts not just for who each team plays, but how often. So two games against the Pirates is good for a team, but it may not outweigh four games against a division rival. The teams’ weighted strength of schedules are: Sox: .541 Indians: .524 Twins: .549 So, the Indians have the easiest remaining schedule, the Sox have the next easiest, and the Twins have the toughest. But over the course of 17 games, we're talking about some pretty thin margins. Now, let’s assume each team wins at a clip the average of their own winning percentage and the winning percentage of their weighted strength of schedule. At .628 facing .541, we can expect the Sox to win at a .585 clip, or 10-7 in their remaining 17 games. At .591 facing .524, we can expect the Indians to win at a .558 clip, or 9-7 in their remaining 16 games. At .600 facing .549, we can expect the Twins to win a ta .575 clip, or 9-6 in their remaining 15 games. Using those numbers, Sox beat the Twins by one game and the Indians by two to win the division! But now, let’s factor in the pitching depth issues the Sox currently have and the fact that they play 17 games while their division rivals play 16 and 15 over the remaining 17 days of the season. Let’s adjust the Sox win total down by one to factor that in, and they tie the Twins and come out a game ahead of the Indians, and surely all three are making the postseason. This is officially my prediction for how the three teams will end the season. Assuming for the sake of argument that it plays out this way, is there a tiebreaker game between the Sox and Twins for the division title and seeding? I can’t recall a scenario in the past where two teams played a tiebreaker, both of whom were guaranteed a playoff spot, so I’m thinking not. But the Internet did not yield an obvious answer for me.

  35. "70% OF THE SEASON"... as if we haven't played just 40 games due to a pandemic and no spring training. But keep selling it.

  36. Actual salary is $50M this season, and the White Sox are committed to nearly double ($89M) after the other FA money drops, assuming a full season and no negotiated salary reductions, or owner lockouts / player walk-offs heading into the off-season CBA. I don't believe there will be COVID clarity until scheduled Spring Training, at the absolute earliest, and possibly not until the CBA is over.

  37. Talent evaluation is key. I wonder if some other teams scouts asked to see Vaughn in the outfield. Vaughn appeared to me to lack speed and athleticism in the Spring. I keep thinking of that play where he was running from first to home while his teammates were laughing as he was gasping for breath after chugging the last 90 feet. Vaughn could become a shorter version of Paul Konerko but he did not look that great at 1B, a position that requires reach and flexibility - not a short, tank like physique. Despite botching a few plays, Eloy takes long strides and covers a lot of ground. He is improving and will not be displaced by Vaughn who, unfortunately, is way too slow to play outfield. My hope is that Vaughn proves that he can absolutely rake in the Minors next year and then come up as a RH DH/pinch hitter. The other possibility is that he has enough trade value to get some decent pitching back in return. The Sox are not going to get rid of EE during the last few weeks of this season so let's see what Vaughn ad Burgur will do in the minors next year. McCann in LF ? OK, proceed.

  38. I hate that framing is even considered a “skill.” It’s dumb tbh. This is 2020 for cripes sake. Well, anyway, both McCann and Omar Narvaez (what?!) have a higher “strike rate” than Grandal this season. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/catcher_framing?year=2020&team=&min=q&sort=5,1

  40. I'm confused. Why is a guy who is inconsistent, limited by injuries, coming off a scandal, and the most expensive RF free agent option your #1 of all the people you want to sign this off season? You make a much better case above about exactly why we shouldn't sign him.

  41. I agree. It just seems like both of them have been with the organization for a while and have been given more than enough chances to succeed.

  42. No, I haven't watched a single game. How did you know? I'll gladly die on the hill that Grandal is a better catcher. I like both of them, but gun to my head, I'm taking Grandal 10/10 times over McCann. Track record speaks for itself. If you don't want to agree or see that logic, that's your prerogative.
