They decided the best way to punish the Sox was him staying in the dugout?5 points

Too bad. If we had a slim lead in the late innings tonight he might have had a shot.5 points

The White Sox did not fire Ozzie Guillen. He quit. He literally quit. Mid-season while under contract he refused to continue coaching the White Sox. Seriously if you want to understand this, refuse to go into your job the next time you work unless you get a new contract from them.5 points

Anyways I’m out guys. I haven’t watched since Tuesday and my life has been better. Tuned in today and I’m already drunk. Getting too old for it. Best of luck for a win. Looking forward to the celebration if we win and Ray Ray trying to pretend he’s smart if we lose. Goodnight all.4 points

Back on topic, yes Ricky needs to be fired after this season. The only thing that can save them is a torrid run in the playoffs. He destroyed the moral of the team though with his decisions. I hope for the best on the playoffs, but I don’t have confidence that they will do great. The look on the players faces doesn’t look like they have confidence right now. I bet there was some raised eyebrows in the clubhouse. Can they trust Ricky to put players in the best position to succeed? I think many of the players love rocky as a person, but I have to believe they are questioning his judgement right now. Probably some texts debating the bullpen moved between players last night. This is no way to be marching into the playoffs, looking feeble and limping. Ruiz and Gonzales should not even be on the roster over Detwiler. I don’t know if Hahn and Kenny are just bending over to Ricky’s roster desires about his favorites or what. I could see giving Rodon a chance to see what he can do out of the bullpen, but he was set up to fail, plain and simple. And yes Ozzie would be better than Ricky, but just about anyone else would. Ozzie not only quit but he sabotaged the team his last year. That drama was Day Of Our Lives / The Young and the Useless all wrapped up in one. Ozzie is better and would choose him easily over the Rickster, but we could do better, the Sox are a desired destination now.4 points

You have literally all of baseball who would be interested in coaching this team. Tons of young talent. Under contract for years. Veteran leadership. Ownership who doesn't care if you curse at your own fanbase for no reason and won't fire you unless you shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York. I don't even know who the hot coaching candidates would be in baseball but my god this would be the prime job.4 points

I think y'all are missing maybe the most important part: "Renteria had a short outing in mind for Rodon, being this is the sort of situation he will face in the playoffs." Why? Why would this be a situation he would face in the playoffs? You have a ton of bullpen arms, unless shit goes sideways you are never going to be in a situation where there are men on base and Rodon is your only option. It is completely in your control to make sure he only comes in for clean innings. In fact, you could guarantee it by making him an opener! Why in the world would you take a SP who is notoriously slow to discover his fastball control and decide he is suddenly there for high-leverage and stopper situations when he is just now being converted to a RP???4 points

In all fairness, that bat spike is the hardest contact he's made in the Majors.3 points

I haven't read the entire thread, but here are my thoughts: Ricky should be fired. I don't say that with anger or emotion. Just a matter-of-fact statement. He's an objectively poor manager who consistently makes objectively poor decisions. His best attribute (unironically) has always been "he speaks Spanish." Well, can anyone really say that's benefitted Robert or Moncada or Lopez this year?? Would they have performed worse with a non-Spanish speaking manager? Unlikely. With all of that said, the Sox front office still needs to do this the right way. They need to wait until after the season to let Ricky go, and say all the right things when they do. As satisfying as it would be to see him fired today, that sends a terrible signal to future would-be managers. No manager wants to take a job where they know a previous manager has been fired mid-season for a bad decision the prior game.3 points

For as gut-wrenching as this week's multiple manager-assisted game-forfeits have been, this team has battled and been in position to win every night on the road against the league's best pitching. I'll say it again, they have flaws but they do not look like a "dead team" to me by any stretch. If we were coming off, say, a 7-0 loss to cap off getting swept by the worst team in baseball I'd feel worse. I think the guys come in fired up to beat the tiny baby animals. This series usually serves as a springboard for one of the teams - let's make that team the Chicago White Sox.3 points

Look, again, we know you don't watch baseball, but the offense is in a slump. It's a 60 game season. Menechino has done fine with the offense this year. The most positive thing you've said this year is "If Crochet is a reliever, then my assessment of him as a bad draft pick will be correct."3 points

WAS IT OVER WHEN THEY BOMBED PEARL HARBOR? NO WAS IT OVER WHEN THE BRITISH WERE COMING? NO WAS IT OVER WHEN DARTH VADER CHOPPED OFF LUKES HAND AND REVEALED HE IS HIS FATHER? NO WAS IT OVER ON THE 5TH DAY OF THE BATTLE OF HELMS DEEP AND THEY LOOKED TO THE EAST? NO WAS IT OVER DURING THE SPACE RACE AND RUSSIA PUT THE FIRST HUMAN INTO SPACE? NO LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO.3 points

RR has lost the fan base, but I have to believe that he’s losing the clubhouse as well. They might like him, but they’re competitors first and foremost.3 points

Ozzie Guillen would make this clubhouse electric again and at the same time be a manager that the players like playing for and he speaks Spanish so we wouldn’t lose that connection with the players. He’s a good fit for this team.3 points

Imagine coming back from being hurt again and trying to be at peace being a bullpen arm. And then imagine your first game being thrown into that situation in your first ever penant race. Why not give the guy a fresh inning to get his feet wet?3 points

It’s clear that Renteria thinks through things and gets very stuck in his ways. Why would you plan on Rodon and Bummer pitching one inning each tonight? Who cares? You need to be flexible and adapt to the situation at hand. Same thing with Edwin and Mazara. Mazara wouldn’t see the light of day if he was right handed, but since he loves match ups (don’t care if he’s batting .200, he’s a lefty!) and defined roles (Edwin is a DH, who cares what his results are?) he actively harms the team.3 points

I wish this was a day game - I'm in a hurry to wash the taste of the Indians series out of my mouth. Turn the tide, right the ship, whatever metaphor is needed - let's get a damn win. ?2 points

Cordero shouldn't have been in to begin with either. People are over looking that because the Rodon decision was such a bonkers terrible one.2 points
-
Rick Renteria absolutely must be fired But Ozzie Guillen isnt the answer, can we aim a bit higher please2 points
-
I like Ozzie and will always enjoy his tenure, but are people forgetting he walked out on the team at the end? And in this cancel culture he wouldn’t even last a full season.2 points
-
Then just call them by their own names. Saying that the White Sox need to fire GarPax is just annoying. At the worst you could say "Fire KenHahn just like the Bulls fired Garpax" and I could live with that.2 points
-
I actually think Rodon could be a good reliever down the line. He got up to 97 MPH tonight. With his slider, that might work for an inning at a time. The problem is throwing him into the fire the way they did. Anyone that knows anything about baseball knew that was going to end terribly.2 points

3 of these 4 games against Cleveland were winnable. Ricky blew all of them. Fire his incompetent ass.2 points
-
No room for error for a pitcher who was struggling before injury. He didn’t even have time to get a feel for the strike zone in live game action. Huge difference and if Ricky has decided he’s going to use Rodon in those situations in the playoffs with the way the rest of the bullpen that we have had been pitching this year, he deserves to be fired tonight.2 points
-
Nah man, Carlos used to make bases loaded, late inning relief appearances all the time back in the day.2 points
-
Ricky saying Rodon has been in situations like this before is just such crap. It’s insulting to read something like that. Gigantic difference between loading the bases on your own to the situation tonight.2 points
-
Agree 100 percent. This was the perfect series to ride into the playoffs. We should have taken 3 out of the 4 games versus Cleveland. In my opinion our rotation showed me we can hang in low scoring affairs. The management of the bullpen is what lost us every single one of those games.2 points
-
Agreed, it would have been better this week if they just lost 9-3 every game. The sad thing is this team has the bullpen weapons right now to really shorten a playoff game, but I don’t trust this coaching staff to figure it out.2 points

Yep and so freaking sick of hearing “he’s a nice guy”. Who cares, Ventura and Manuel are two of the nicest guys ever and they couldn’t win shit.2 points

Honestly thought he had done a pretty good job this season and then this series happened. That’s one of the worst handling’s of a bullpen I’ve ever seen in a series. Absolutely horrific.2 points

I’m glad Rodongate happened because it’s such a huge managerial error that he will be a nationally known baseball laughingstock by the end of the week2 points
-
When we sucked early in the season, I thought that underachieving this year would at least get rid of Ricky. Then we got hot, clinched a playoff spot, Ricky was possibly going to win manager of the year, and now a week later he has somehow managed the team so poorly that we might be able to get rid of him while still making the playoffs. That's my glass half full view of all of this. Here's to hoping JR actually gets rid of Ricky this off-season.2 points

I wonder when Ray Ray is gonna leave a long post on Steve's Twitter chastising him for the Ricky hate.2 points

Wrong again, Rodon is healthy, he's not a relief pitcher, he's never been a relief pitcher, the only strikes he can throw are meat, and he sucks ass. Detwiler was the better option now, period.2 points
