Most encouraging things... 1.) We haven't lost to LHP all year 2.) Robert is waking up 3.) YoYo is waking up 4.) We won't be in no starter mode for the first two games of a three game set 5.) Madrigal is magical 6.) Pray that RR puts the best players on the field ( not holding my breath ) 7.) Hopefully we have Eloy back 8.) Jose is Jose 9.) Our bullpen should be nails with the top dogs going strong 10.) It's baseball, so why not9 points

EE single handedly handcuffed Abreu in the Cubs series by batting right behind him. I don't want to see Edwin in the postseason unless he's pinch hitting against someone throwing below 90.5 points

Nice thread RR but you are not the MOY. The Sox won despite you and that worthless pitching coach.5 points

Kid has a 115 wRC+ as a rookie and prospect junkie @Harold's Leg Lift is so bitter they didn’t take a high ceiling guy at #4 that he’s going to spend the rest of his life making stupid and/or false comments about him. Fucking weird as fuck.5 points

Eloy HAS to DH this series. No excuses. If RR trots out EE out there at DH im going to fucking vomit4 points

From best record in AL to #7 seed in a little over a week. Still and it could be the alcohol talking, but the Athletics seem to be a good draw for us.4 points

I LOVE this matchup, & going forward to the next series. Houston nor Minnesota scares me. I wanted ZERO parts of the Indians. We can let that potent Yankees lineup go up against that pitching. I think even though “the sky is falling” this was the best case scenario.4 points

can we all agree that regardless of whether the sox win any games in the playoffs or not, if EE is in the lineup over McCann then that means Renteria really doesn't give a shit about putting his team in the best possible position to win games?4 points

Too many negative comments to rebut here. To me the bottom line is most people didn’t even think we would be Looking at the Playoffs this year. Be happy with that and knowing things aren’t over till they are. We will be right in this and next year will be even better4 points

dude it makes no damn difference what team they play in the first rd, they're getting bounced this is the downside of a 60 game season, what you see after 60 might not be who they really are. very mediocre SP, a very 1 dimensional offense outside of 2 guys, and a manager who has zero control of his clubhouse and doesn't know how to even write a fucking lineup card or use a bullpen This is an 82 or 83 win team at best4 points

The last week was terrible and Ricky made some bad decisions but you are fooling yourself if you think he will get fired. The sox team overall did outperform their talent despite the last 6 or 7 games. Not saying the sox don't have talent but they were projected for about mid 80s wins and they won 35 games which is the equivalent of 94 games. That means the team did perform at least 8 or 9 games better over a full season or about 4 games better over the shortened season (zips had them win 31 games). Now of course ricky did make bad decisions and people will say you have to look at circumstance but there really is no precedent in baseball history were a manager of a projected mid 80s win team won mid 90s games gets fired. I don't think ricky is a great manager but get used to the fact that he is coming back 99% next year. Next year he will be under the microscope though, expectations are higher and if he is let's say 5 games under .500 at all star break he could get axed. But for this year get over the fact that Ricky is not only keeping his job but also win manager or the year because no AL team improved as much as the sox and no AL team beat the projections by as much as the sox.3 points

It was to test him in a high leverage situation. Ricky explained this. You can disagree (and I did), but he wouldn't have done it in a playoff game.3 points

It’s the playoffs for the first time in Renteria’s career. He’s rested guys for injury and tried to preserve others late in the season. Bullpen use during the season is not all about putting the best pitcher out there everyday because you have to think about the next day or the playoffs. I’d say nows the time when we really get to judge Renteria’s game decisions.3 points

In this particular case, yes I would strongly consider it. I don't care about stats because I've watched Robert looking uncomfortable this past week or so. Oakland is not easy for a CF and certainly not for a rookie who has been struggling on deeper drives towards the wall. And let's not forget Engel has experience in Oakland and is a gold glove caliber player himself.3 points
-
Have you just lost your mind? Yes, Robert is going to be moved off a position that he graded in the top 4 in every defensive metric because you feel more comfortable with Engel in the "shadows." Robert is #2 in Statcast Outs above average - tied with Keimier. #4 in FG defensive metrics and #3 in DRS via BRef. In all of baseball. It's great who you trust but I'll go ahead and play the guy who is elite based on every single look.3 points

It's obvious at this point that Cishek is a reader of this board and doesn't have any real sources. He just reads what people are speculating about on here and pretends he has sources.3 points

I think Grandal will be at DH. McCann is catching Giolito game 1 for sure.3 points

Not after going from the 1 seed to 7 and losing the division. There is no way he should win the award.3 points

Not a fan of the man on 2nd in extras, but if it continues next year, please start that in the 12th inning. Play two innings of real baseball where it will usually end anyway.3 points

We were 6 games up on Cleveland with 8 games to play. Absolutely ridiculous to give that lead up.3 points

Ricky should really be fired if they get swept this coming week. He pushed all the wrong buttons this week on and off the field.3 points

With the expanded playoffs, yeah most people did. It would have been an epic failure to not make it this year.3 points

Something about Grandal...from the start, he looks wrong in a Sox uniform.3 points

Why has Ricky decided to concede the most important game of the season in the second inning?3 points

As far as preferred 1st opponents—- 1) Houston: I think some of them have already mentally checked out. 2) Toronto: Young and inexperienced, like we are. 3) Oakland: Yeah, we struggle against them, but their lineup does not scare me. Plus, LH starters. 4) Minny: For some reason, I think we match up well against them. 5) NYY: Still rather face them than... 6) Cleveland: As we know, their pitching gives us fits.3 points

As I said the other night after the 10-0 loss, this team is still capable of a deep playoff run. But I also sympathize with those that are concerned. Hahn has to improve in free agency moving forward. Signing Bauer would a great compliment to last winter’s Keuchel signing but please no more washed up DHs, RF or RP.2 points

Of note on the Sox 2020 season. They would have made the playoffs this season, even with the 5 team recent historic playoff set up.2 points

I’m keeping track of this almost more than anyone because it’s just dealing with possible outcomes. But I hate the expanded postseason. The Astros should be headed home, and the AL Central truly would have been tense and exciting coming down the stretch, but it’s just dealing with seeds. That’s boring.2 points

100% agree. I truly believe that Joc will be the addition in RF. Some people will hate such a move, but he’s the perfect stop-gap if we can add one of the big Cuban free agent outfielders.2 points

I find it crazy that some are sitting here watching Crochet in the majors dominating batters during a division race after missing his junior year and no minor leagues... and you are putting a ceiling on what he can do? Based on a college season none of us watched?2 points

I think it’s safe to say EE’s option will he declined. That’s an easy fix- Vaughn and Abreu will fill the DH/1B role in 2021. i personally think the starting pitching addition is an easy fix too. Sign Trevor Bauer. However, this right field dilemma is really standing out for most of us. I think it’s safe to say we are tired of platoons and stop gaps etc... Many of us were hoping Mookie hit free agency with the Sox having a seat at the table. And last year we were hoping for a Bryce Harper signing. But this off-season will be unique as it appears as if RF is the final position player puzzle piece. I don’t want Springer... he was heavily involved in the cheating scandal. And I really want Bauer and we know how he feels about the Astros. lol. Ozuna’s defense scares me, but that dude can still mash. But do they want more one sided players? is there a team on the midst of a rebuild that has a complete CF/RF that may be available via trade? I’m still at a loss here. I do think the Sox will end up re-signing McCann. He holds tremendous value for this lineup and hopefully he is open to take less playing time to stay here. This will be a very important and interesting offseason for Hahn and his staff. He has a lot of trade pieces and not too many holes to fill. A position I haven’t seen this organization be in since the early 2000’s.2 points

A guy sat behind me at a Sox spring training game and shouted out encouragement to AJ for the six innings he was in the game. Nonstop “C’mon Anthony John” “Nice play Anthony John” “Little hit Anthony John”. Most annoying fan I’ve ever sat near.2 points

We’re not blocking Vaughn for another year and should be using our resources for RF & pitching upgrades2 points
