  1. On the other hand, this thread does not make you look smart.

  2. The Big Hurt said warming a guy up the second Dunning gave up 1 hit did two very bad things. It ruined Dunning's confidence, and it hurt the rest of the team's confidence. If the plan is to use 8 or 9 guys, chances are there are going to be a couple, if not more, that don't have it that day. You can't be afraid of 1 run in the first inning. If the plan was to use Crochet for a few innings early, why didn't they start him?

  4. Or him facing better teams. If we sign a FA, our top 3 are set. The rest of the guys can fight for 4th and 5th spots. If no one claims it with authority by July, you trade for another starter and slot Kopech in.

  6. Garrett Crochet prays that he turns into Tommy John. Dude had 26 year career and a borderline HOF one at that. If we got that from Crochet, it would be a win of the highest magnitude.

  7. His handling of the bullpen (and lineups to a degree) over the last week of the regular season should be reason for firing alone. Yesterday's handling of the bullpen wasn't completely his fault, but in hindsight pulling Dunning after 15 pitches was a mistake that led to an avalanche of shit. I'm really concerned that the Sox will go out and pick up another SP or two and a real right fielder and be a very good team next year...with a subpar manager. Ricky seems like a nice guy, but nice doesn't win championships. He needs to go, but I don't see the Sox firing him unfortunately.

  8. These posts bashing Kopech are such bad takes. Life is more important than baseball and you can't take someone else's inventory. Period.

  9. Go back and watch the Lamb AB. He missed his spot badly the whole AB and wasn’t crisp at all. I’m sure if he didn’t struggle the last two games, they might have been more patient.

  10. I have seen pitchers have rough first innings and move on and get better. I understand all hands on deck but for crying out loud give the guy a chance. He did have 2 outs and he did not have any runs scored on him. Why start him? As for the rest of the game everyone on the sox mound was looking over their shoulder at the bull pen-you better believe that. I do not think I have ever seen a pitcher pulled that fast when he was not hurt and had two outs and there was no score. Were we that scared that if Oakland scored one run in that inning that the game would be over? That is what your telling your team.

  13. When the White manager makes Terry Bevington look smart it is game over man game over. I understand being worried about Dunning but on the other hand he did have two outs and zero runs scored. Was our manager so scared that if Oakland score one run the game would be out of reach? I understand the everyone on deck thing that does not mean you use your whole bull pen by the 4th inning-still a 9 inning game. If this game had gone extra innings who was going to pitch? Colume for 5 innings? I have seen pitchers have not easy first innings the other team fails to score and then they settle down. I just thought the panic button was hit way to soon. I had a bad vibe when then they had a 3 run lead I was waiting for a bad news. I have doubts about this manager for next year and that is not just based on this series. If they hung onto Bevingotn for 3 years what does that tell you.

  14. I'd trade Stiever and think real hard about Cease. Lynn makes them a pretty good staff. They'll spend their money on a couple bullpen arms and a DH while they play the service time game with Vaughn. Maybe a backup catcher if they have no faith in Collins.

  15. That bullpen performed pretty darn well this year given all the youth. By including 10 years you included Quintana.

  16. That's why you only have him bat against righties. Let Engel get the lefties. His numbers against righties are pretty good.

  19. So you would have preferred Dunning staying in the game in a do or die game because you were confident he gets that 3rd out and doesn't give up a run and put the Sox behind from the get go ? Maybe you didn't like that 72.4 % win win probability way after Dunning was removed and the Sox held a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th ? Ok maybe you prefer instead the Sox started Heuer or Foster. Tell me how that would ve gone. Once again you can't. Face facts it was a meltdown from much more reliable arms than Dunning that led to the Sox loss and most of all Crochets injury. You keep thinking you're some baseball expert and so will I but some of the smarter minds on this website happen to agree with me. There was a game plan and they stuck to it with good results until the Crochet injury threw everything out of whack. You then needed some of those good pitchers to perform and they did not. Players not performing up to standards they have established is not the fault of the manager. Hitters failed, pitchers failed and got injured. You don't win giving up as many walks as the Sox good pitchers did. This was not my game plan . It was the Sox and I said at the beginning of that post you could disagree with that thought process but it was working until Heuer gave up the 2 run HR and all the bad from Rodon , Foster and Marshall helped along by a catchers interference from a batter who seems to be good at getting them. It is not panicked or little league thinking. It's doing what you have to do in a situation that warrants it. Fine you disagree with the thought process. It does not make you right and everyone else an idiot.

  20. My prediction is we sign Bauer and Joc and bring back Colome. And crazy probably won’t/can’t happen prediction we sign both Colas and Cespedes.

  22. Even if they sign someone else, they should be. This is not the season to judge a guy to be a failure based on 10 starts, especially not the first 10-20 starts of their career. It should be: Person X Giolito Keuchel Dunning Cease Person Q/Lopez/Kopech/Steiver and others.

  23. Sweet coincidence of Port-Au-Prince, my guy. They had an offer for Machado that was bonkers. The Padres swooped in as a surprise bidder and topped it in guaranteed money. You can re-litigate the past if you want, but they were willing to pay, they just were offering a blank check. They also failed miserably because they should have been prepared for that scenario. They had the highest offer for Zach Wheeler. His girlfriend didn't want it. They're offering contracts now. Can you c h i l l.

  25. What a treat in a miserable year. Love this team, here’s to the next decade.

  26. I think Keuchel will likely see the biggest regression of everyone on the team. That said, I still see him as a solid 3. If we don’t resign McCann, it may have negatively affect Gio also. SP should definitely be at the top of our shopping list, and we need more than a Quintana unfortunately.

  28. I don't think yesterday's loss is on Ricky, but plenty of others were. We need a new manager. The Sox are gonna be a powerhouse for the next 5 years, and we can't have this guy kneecapping the team. When you have the MVP on your squad, you lock him into the 3 hole. There are 8 year olds on MLB The Show that can construct a better lineup than Ricky. This was a season long issue, and it seems like people have just accepted it. Imagine OAK getting through the 1st without facing Abreu. BP mismanagement was glaringly obvious that series vs CLE. This team began to gel because they were dominating. They were dominating because they're immensely talented players, not because Ricky is a "great clubhouse guy".

  31. This is very common thing for Jerry to do, so maybe get the fuck back in? Remember Thome? Contreras? They get these contracts at pennies on the dollar and sending back less value

  32. I really think they will be limited in budget and will make a starting pitcher priority A. i think they know they can live with a bad RF way more than they can live without another quality starting pitcher.

  33. I remember when the White Sox fired Tony LaRussa. JR made sure that LaRussa had another job lined up with Oakland. The Angels just fired there GM. Maybe the Angels might want to hire Hahn. If so, they can have him. Maybe just maybe JR will come to his senses and give me my long awaited interview for the White Sox GM job. I will give him the most memorable interview he ever had. I've written JR numerous letters requesting to be interviewed for the GM job. Maybe now my time is coming.

  34. If he used Foster after Heuer with the bases empty instead of trying Rodon there, we might be talking about taking on Houston next week. But it's possible Foster would have not been able to find the plate in either scenario. But of course hindsight is 20/20. Having so many rookies in your bullpen for a pressure packed game is tough. To be honest, I am still pretty upset that Keuchel did not get the job done in game 2 (the type of game we brought him in for as a free agent) to make game 3 unnecessary.

  39. Maybe herrassy but here goes....dangle Eloy to Brewers for Yelich and Corbin Burnes. I like Eloy but his lack of defense bottlenecks the lineup and we have depth at DH. Guessing Brewers would entertain dumping Yelich contract given his recent performance and I would bet on a big bounceback from him. Burnes goes right to TOR (I doubt Brewers would consider moving Woodruff due to his affordable contract). Who knows...maybe we can get them to toss in Hader if we throw in Cease, Lopez and Collins?

  40. I agree he won’t be fired, but it’s infuriating that the Sox only have “2 starting pitchers”. Too much potential for Cooper to continue to fail in terms of developing starters. Some change is desperately needed in the organization. This year was successful, but it was also set up perfectly for this team. They flat out weren’t a good team against actual contenders and were below .500 against RHP.

  41. Renteria did not take Eloy out after he initially injured his ankle stepping on first base. Eloy probably aggravated that injury when he ran the bases following that. Renteria made a farce out of the last game with his foolhardy decisions, like issuing an intentional walk in the midst of a 5 walk inning. I can't focus all of my ire toward Renteria though. Keuchel had a terrible game 2 which allowed Oakland back in the series. Michael Kopech also has to be mentioned. Game 3 could have been his game. He let the team and White Sox fans down because he could not get his own affairs in order.

  42. No way as I said in the other thread, he won games at a 94 win clip with 2 and a half starting pitchers and narrowly lost a best of 3 series against the 2 seed. People say "because of jerry" but there is simply no precedent in baseball history that a manager coming off a losing season has such a successful season and gets fired. That has simply never happened white sox or any other team. He is back 100%. Of course he did make a couple mistakes but bottom line his team still performed much better than even the most optimistic projection said.

  43. I don't really know if Dunning got lit up. He gave up a single on a low fastball to La Stella. He did hang the slider to Canha that got him pulled. But from the pitch charts, that was the only slider he hung. All the other ones were lower in the zone or out of the zone. Either way, Ricky has said the plan was to have Crochet face Olson. So the initial plan was for Dunning to only pitch to 5 hitters.

  45. This team was probably a year ahead of schedule. Rick Hahn tried to move this up to a contender in the off season by bringing in pieces where we were weak at DH, RF, and SP. Dallas worked, the rest didn't. I think now we have another years worth of data and information to go off of going into next year. Getting Kopech back will be a nice shot in the arm, and after the playoffs I have zero doubt they figure out a way to bring in another top half starting pitcher. it will be interesting to see how they budget for 2020, but overall I am pretty happy with this year, past the obvious sting of losing. If you had told me before this season that this team would have qualified for the playoffs even under pre 2020 standards I would have been thrilled.

  46. The season was in freaking jeopardy multiple times due to covid. Imagine trading some big minor league pieces and then the season gets cancelled. This wasn't the year the white sox were expected to make a world series run. Trading away valuable assets would have been too risky. Most of our valuable minor leaguers are very young pitchers who have ZERO track record, especially given the cancelled minor league season. A trade with those guys would have been unlikely. People need to settle down.
