  2. Hell no. Ozzie quit on this franchise. He is the absolute last person who should be around these kids.

  3. There is none. We made our decision on McCann the day we signed Grandal. We placed a bet that McCann could not repeat his 2019 numbers/that he would be exposed if he continued to be played as a starter. James McCann will go somewhere else as their #1 catcher next year, and we just have to accept that, and maybe he'll be more exposed, maybe he won't, but he deserves the shot somewhere. There is absolutely no way that spending premium money on a catcher makes sense when we already spent premium money on a catcher - go spend the extra money, whatever it is, on your pitching staff or RF. If Grandal winds up costing us a pennant somehow, we can flash back to that decision at that time.

  4. Mazara and Collins for Benintendi. Resign McCann. Sign Bauer Bring up Vaughn as DH and let let's see what he can do. Leury and Engel stay. Maybe Dyson as well. Renteria gets replaced.

  7. I'm sure Ozzie's name has come up in multiple "fire Ricky" posts, but I don't see a post dedicated to a debate about hiring Ozzie to replace him, so I'm starting one. My case for firing Renteria is as follows. 1. Renteria has to go because down the stretch in the series in Cleveland and in the playoff series against Oakland, he had no concept of how to manage in a tight game. As long as his guys were hitting homers and taking leads and he had good starting pitching and a deep bullpen, he could manage. But if things went off track and he needed to manufacture a run or two, or sort out his bullpen usage in a tight game, he failed miserably. If he can't win these kinds of games, he can't ever get the Sox to the World Series, because playoff series will inevitably be tight. My case for Ozzie is as follows. 1. Ozzie did exceedingly well managing the White Sox pitching during 2005. Granted, it was a staff with 4 stud starting pitchers who each threw more than 200 innings that year. In the ALCS, those 4 - Contreras, Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland threw 4 complete games in a row, which will never be done again, playoffs or regular season. But that doesn't mean Ozzie couldn't manage a bullpen. The Sox used 3 different primary closers in 2005, so Ozzie was able to adapt to what he had. 2. The 2005 Sox were tremendous in 1-run games. They also swept the Astros in the World Series, while only outscoring them by 6 total runs. They won three 1-0 games of note in that 2005 season - first game of year, first game after the All-Star break and last game of the World Series. This requires good managing. 3. The 2005 Sox knew how to bash home runs. But they also knew how to manufacture runs. Just think of a couple of runs that won postseason games. In the second game against the Angels in the ALCS, in the bottom of the 9th, after AJ Pierzynski reached first on a controversial dropped third strike, Ozzie pinch ran Pablo Ozuna for AJ, who stole second, and scored the walk-off win on a Joe Crede double to left field. In the WS clinching win against the Astros, Willie Harris hit a single, stole second, and scored on Jermaine Dye's single up the middle. It was the only run of the game. This also shows how Ozzie was able to use the "smurfs" - Harris, Ozuna, and Geoff Blum - in ways that helped the Sox to 3 postseason wins. In addition to Ozuna and Harris above, Geoff Blum hit the game winning HR in extra innings in game 3 of the World Series. Again, Ozzie knew what he was doing. 4. The 2005 White Sox were an excellent defensive team, so Ozzie knows the value of defense in winning games. That offseason, the Sox traded offense for defense, and it paid off. This White Sox team has been excellent defensively with Anderson making great strides at SS, and with Luis Robert in CF. 5. Ozzie is the only Sox manager alive today who has won a playoff series with the Sox. He was 11-1 in 2005, which is still the best postseason record in baseball. under that 3-round format. 6. Yes, Ozzie quit on the team at the end of his tenure and should have been fired. He was angling to manage Miami, which turned into a disaster. After 10 years, I don't hold this against Ozzie, and the Sox shouldn't either. Ozzie is back in the Sox fold as an announcer and would not mess up like this again. 7. If Renteria is replaced, the Sox need an Hispanic manager given how central the Cuban players are to the success of the team. 8. Ozzie is a loudmouth manager, who says a lot of crazy things. But there is a method to his madness. He always takes the pressure onto himself, and off of his players. He has their backs. I'm sure some will question whether Ozzie is fully up to speed on the new analytics which didn't exist when Ozzie was managing. But I think he would be based on the fact that he knew how to manage pitching, had a team that could bash HRs and play for a run, and excelled in 1-run games. Lastly, I will confess I don't live in Chicago, so I don't know much about what Ozzie has been doing lately outside of providing TV commentary. But whatever that may be, I think Ozzie would be laser focused should he get another shot at managing the Sox. It's not likely a marriage that will last 10 years. But there's no reason it can't last for the next 5, which is the Sox window to compete for World Series titles. My vote: Fire Ricky. Hire Ozzie.

  11. Greg, I get that your preferred "news network" routinely transmits this form of racism in the bolded above. But it is impossibly fvkcing racist to blame a people for a virus; continuing this sort of shit-talk is as ignorant as some Muslims in the ME blaming others who eat pork for the swine flu. So two reccos for you: 1. Turn off the fvkcing "news network" you take in all fvkcing day long, & pick up a book. 2. Stop transmitting racism, because no race of people "created this virus." NATURE created this virus, and NATURE gives ZERO FVKCS about anyone's race/national origin. Insofar as people "wanting Trump to die," I haven't seen that. (Apart from your preferred "news network" transmitting propaganda.) I've only seen people calling this wonderful Kharma/comeuppance for his ignorant response to this pandemic. Lastly, now might be a good time for you to go get a haircut before a re-lockdown, so we don't have to read your whining and b****ing all winter long.

  12. Cease is also a guy who hasn't lost stuff. Much like Giolito he could be one side session away from figuring out how to lock in a repeat his throwing. Or he could be years away. That arm will give him additional chances. Personally I think they bring in another starter, with Dunning and Cease slotting in at the 4th and 5th starters next year, with Lopez fighting for a spot as well. Kopech will start off on a throwing program and be back in May or June if one of them fails or there is an injury.

  16. Ozzie Guillen hasn't managed in the bigs in 8 years. If he were a commodity at all he wouldn't be doing post-game shows. Ozzie Guillen was a terrible manager from about 2009 on. Whatever magical touch he had with this team was long gone before he left. Ozzie Guillen QUIT on the Chicago White Sox. He negotiated a deal with Miami while still employed. That bridge is burned. Rick Renteria being terrible is no justification to bring back a bad manager who hasn't worked in nearly a decade. Thanks for 2005 and a fun run, but replacing one catastrophe with another is not the change this young squad needs. Ozzie Guillen will never manage the White Sox ever again. Fin.

  22. Hahn did not “inherit” one of the “worst farms in the system”. He was the #2 guy in charge within the organization for ten years prior to his promotion to GM and was primarily responsible, along with KW, for the state and condition of the farm system at that time. And to date, many years later, he still hasn’t built a scouting and player development program that can achieve a top ten farm system status on its own and not rely on trading off major league assets to acquire other team’s top prospects to do so.

  23. I would be fine with it and actually think these players may respond to Ozzie. 2011 was a crazy year and while Ozzie did quit with two games remaining, I think it is unfair to blame him solely for the whole fiasco. Time for everyone to move on and win another championship, I say, but I am also open to other ideas.

  26. It's what you do at the bar. Be responsible and don't congregate. Be responsible and social distance. I posted several pictures yesterday of adults being safe at a bar. Strangers were never closer than 15 feet without masks. If you can't handle being a responsible adult and following safety protocols stay the hell home or get arrested. But don't shut down a business because irresponsible people may show up. Quit making excuses for irresponsible people. What a whiney argument that people shouldn't be responsible for their own actions, that is should be the government that is responsible. I believe if someone doesn't wear a mask at the grocery store they are being irresponsible and THEY should be punished. If a business is being responsible and requiring masks, socially distancing, taking steps to disinfect after every customer, kicking out irresponsible customers who will not follow the rules, they should be allowed to continue to operate. In fact as a responsible adult I refuse to enter a business that isn't following those rules. As a society I'm so tired of people claiming nothing is the person's fault. That people can't be personally responsible for their own damn actions. If the bar is open you can't ask people to stay 6 feet apart from strangers. You can't expect them not to dance. You can't expect people to actually follow rules. Bull shit. People have to be held personally accountable for their actions. People have to be responsible and do the right thing for themselves and everyone around them. If you can't follow rules you get punished not the people who are following the rules. If someone refuses to wear a mask in a grocery store they should be removed, we shouldn't shut down grocery stores. If someone refuses to stay six feet away from strangers in a bar they should be removed, the bar shouldn't be shut down. But we just keep adapting for the people who don't give a shit about anyone else and shutting everything down. The hardworking responsible people have their lives ruined because nothing is anyone's fault anymore. We can't ask that anyone be personally responsible for their own actions and punish them. No, we have to punish the business owners and responsible people who will wear masks, socially distance, and take steps to not infect anyone else. People need to grow the hell up and be responsible instead of creating a society based around irresponsible people. And look at the pictures I posted yesterday. As soon as someone left the area it was sprayed with disinfectant and shut down while it dried. The owners of that place have their entire life savings invested. They are trying hard to stay afloat AND keep their customers safe. I'll take fighting for them over fighting for irresponsible people who can't be held responsible for their own actions.

  27. Really well thought out. Would love to add Bauer but am not optimistic. I'm skeptical of Pedersons interest in leaving the west coast and would rather we target Benintendi or Tauchman in trade, either of whom would be far less expensive and play better defense. Guessing we could put together a trade package for either that preserves our best young pitchers (something like Lopez plus Rutherford). Of course our pitching needs will be somewhat influenced by the health of Crochet. I've seen enough of his stuff to be convinced he can be a big help in 2021 in a variety of roles. I also wouldn't throw up if we somehow came away with Lance Lynn.

  28. I agree w your assessment of the situation. As Sox fans let’s play would you rather... A. would you rather have Bauer, resign Colome (or someone less expensive), live with Collins as backup C, bring back Mazara or grab another left handed hitter from the expected DFA scrap heap OR B. would you rather have Stroman, Colome (or someone Hahn deems better) Joc P and a better backup catcher? i’d rather have Option A w Bauer. I’m sick of the second tier signings consistently disappointing.

  36. He's not getting fired because of the big picture. He got the team in the playoffs and the players seem to like him. Despite the horrible fade at the end, big picture says he stays. It'd look bad to fire a guy in the running for manager of the year. Frankly despite his awful moves during games he did lead a team with many holes into the playoffs. The Sox rotation was disgracefully bad. It has to improve or this team is winning nothing of real note.

  37. Hahn's future in this game depends on how this rebuild works out. I find it hard to believe he'd put his own future in the hands of Ricky Renteria after some of the bewildering decisions we all saw this season. Hahn has JR's ear. I believe we'll start the '21 season with a new manager and coaching staff.

  38. What's with the sports savant shit? My opinion is based on common sense and my own experience with sports injuries. Several games back, Eloy hit first base awkwardly and hopped around to take weight off it after he passed the bag.. He was trying to walk the pain off and wincing. Renteria then came out to talk to him. After a brief discussion Renteria decided to leave him in rather than opting for a pinch runner. . Eloy then had to run the bases hard. He came up lame and had to leave the game. Eloy re-injured the same ankle a few games later. The re-injured ankle caused him to miss most of the play-off series. Fuk Renteria. He makes bad decisions left and right. I hope they can him.

  41. I'd trade Stiever and think real hard about Cease. Lynn makes them a pretty good staff. They'll spend their money on a couple bullpen arms and a DH while they play the service time game with Vaughn. Maybe a backup catcher if they have no faith in Collins.

  42. Welcome to my club! Been pining for him for years (and yes I know he's regressed the last year+). Boston getting him at #7 and we follow that pick with Fulmer has always stood out as "what could have been vs. what we actually got" scenario for me. Would love to see him on this team next year, think he fits our need.

  43. Because Sox: -We sign Joc to a small 1 year deal with a 2nd year option; Joc/Engel is the platoon -James Paxton is the big signing on a 1 year reclamation deal -McCann is gone; Colome is gone, though Sox pay lip service but he's out of their price range -Nomore Nontenderazarra -Yolmer comes back on a new deal -Leury is bought out and I'm pissed about it because he's well worth the money and is an ideal bench option, but gotta save the $$$ -Someone's formerly good reliever (i.e. McGee, Wade Davis, etc.) is in camp trying to win a job, and maybe 2 of these guys -Sox make a smaller deal that also pisses me off, e.g. they trade someone like Zack Collins and give up on him for a shitty veteran back-end starter who is only slightly more enticing than the Gio Gonzalez signing was -Sox sign 1 vet reliever for $6M or less

  44. Nope. I don't want anything to do with him. And actually think the money can be better spent than in RF. I think Engel/Leury will be fine in RF, especially with Vaughn in the lineup. Spend the money on pitching.
