  1. With less information about this story, I wouldn’t have said that. Haeger killed an ex-girlfriend that was being harassed by him. There was a witness that knew he did it. Haeger took off after he murdered her. And as it turns out, he was dead before I posted that. So was it a little harsh of me? Yes. But under all of these circumstances, his days as a free man were over. And these assholes that kill women “because if I can’t have her, nobody will”, don’t deserve to live.

  2. I get the innocent before proven guilty angle, but c’mon man. She was trying to get a restraining order against him. She is dead in her bedroom. He was seem coming out of her bedroom with a gun. He went to the Grand Canyon and shot himself. We aren’t a jury. This is pretty obvious. Your sympathy is misguided. It should be toward the victim. if she were harassing him,why would he go over to her home. Why would he follow her to her bedroom? Charlie didn’t have the guts to face the consequences of his actions.

  3. The photos of Trump “working” in the hospital were definitely staged. For one thing he does wear reading glasses and there were non in sight. And the “document” he was signing was zoomed in on, and was a blank piece of paper. It is hard to imagine they wouldn’t think they would be so easily busted on this.

  4. One thing I think worth reiterating is our young core is going to continue getting more and more expensive in the coming years. So while we should have payroll flexibility in the near term, we do need to find some spots where we can go cheap to help offset future rising costs. I keep seeing people saying let’s trade for Conforto, Yelich, Harper, etc. and those deals are highly unlikely IMO. I truly believe the Sox will sign one of Oscar Colas or Yoelkis Cespedes to be the long-term answer to RF this winter. With a lineup a lineup that should be amongst the best in baseball come the 2022 season, we can afford to go with a young RF in the 8th spot and not impact our ability to compete. Getting a one year stop-gap like Joc or Brantley makes way more sense than taking on a massive contract that will prevent us from filling other holes. IMO, if we have the ability to add one impact free agent or take on a big contract this offseason, it should definitely be for a TOR starter. If this post season showed us anything it’s that we are at least one arm short in our rotation and can’t afford to rely on all three of Kopech, Cease, & Dunning at the same time. Go fairly cheap with RF, get creative with the bullpen, and spend your financial resources on the rotation.

  6. When the comment was made, Haeger was “wanted” on “suspicion” of committing a crime, and the appropriate response is to wish suicide for him? Come on. I’m an attorney in the military and did criminal defense for 5 years. I take our Constitutional protections seriously. Comments like the one at issue are narrow-minded, ignorant, and downright dangerous under the wrong circumstances.

  10. I am new to this site and am excited to join to talk to passionate sox fans. My offseason plan revolves around acquiring Lorenzo Cain. He has two years and 35 million left on his contract. After opting out for this season the Brewers may have soured on him. He would add competent offense and above average right field play. He would not block for too long any Cuban outfielder being signed which is a hope of mine in January. The package for him I think may be less than anticipated due to the salary attached. Thoughts?

  11. This is no surprise. How do you think this administration would respond? Perhaps all the lies and misinformation are finally catching up to them. But his response, and the fact that Trump exposed all those donors, some who paid $250k to this virus knowing Hope Hicks had it and he might, is all business as usual. Par for the course. The guy doesnt care about his biggest donors. Just their money.

  12. I actually don't believe that Keuchel will decline as many here assume. Remember, last season, he was signed late in FA, and only ended up with 112 or so IP. This year, due to COVID, he only had 60 or so IP. IOW, although he's a soon to be 33 year old SP, he's also only had the equivalent of 1 season's worth of wear & tear between 2019 & 2020. So, I'm more confident that he'll be able to sustain his performance for longer. He's 33, but his arm might only be 31.

  13. That will definitely be the case two years from now if governors order states open (see Florida)...but where restaurants and bars and airlines and theatres and baseball teams are still only at 15-35% of capacity and previous profit levels because we are still in Stage 2/3/4/5 since we’ve never even successfully conquered the first wave. It’s just going to be death by 1,000 cuts. Only the massive restaurant franchises will survive. It’s the exact same thing that will happen if the Supreme Court outlaws Obamacare and Covid-19 is not protected as a pre-existing condition any longer in the middle of the worst health care crisis in American history. We will suffer millions of medical bankruptcies. Taxes will continue to increase on the top 20% of Americans who can actually afford to pay them without going into debt themselves. Social Security and Medicare will be slashed. The top 1% will be fine, the 538 Senators and representatives will also be fine, and K Street lobbyists will never be in bigger demand. Eventually, massive tech oligarchs and Wal-Mart will own pretty much everything in America, just like Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” There will be no Jimmy Stewart to save the remaining 99%.

  15. There is zero chance the Giants would accept that deal for Yas. He may be 30 years old, but he’s coming off a monster season and is controllable for five more seasons. The Giants may move him, but they’ll be looking for top 100 talent and not C tier prospects.

I want the federal government to mount a strong and effective response to an epidemic so that we don't have hundreds of thousands dead, millions more sick, and trillions in economic damage with things looking like we're going into Round 3 rather than any recovery. 20. Hahn did not “inherit” one of the “worst farms in the system”. He was the #2 guy in charge within the organization for ten years prior to his promotion to GM and was primarily responsible, along with KW, for the state and condition of the farm system at that time. And to date, many years later, he still hasn’t built a scouting and player development program that can achieve a top ten farm system status on its own and not rely on trading off major league assets to acquire other team’s top prospects to do so.

  21. I'm sure Ozzie's name has come up in multiple "fire Ricky" posts, but I don't see a post dedicated to a debate about hiring Ozzie to replace him, so I'm starting one. My case for firing Renteria is as follows. 1. Renteria has to go because down the stretch in the series in Cleveland and in the playoff series against Oakland, he had no concept of how to manage in a tight game. As long as his guys were hitting homers and taking leads and he had good starting pitching and a deep bullpen, he could manage. But if things went off track and he needed to manufacture a run or two, or sort out his bullpen usage in a tight game, he failed miserably. If he can't win these kinds of games, he can't ever get the Sox to the World Series, because playoff series will inevitably be tight. My case for Ozzie is as follows. 1. Ozzie did exceedingly well managing the White Sox pitching during 2005. Granted, it was a staff with 4 stud starting pitchers who each threw more than 200 innings that year. In the ALCS, those 4 - Contreras, Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland threw 4 complete games in a row, which will never be done again, playoffs or regular season. But that doesn't mean Ozzie couldn't manage a bullpen. The Sox used 3 different primary closers in 2005, so Ozzie was able to adapt to what he had. 2. The 2005 Sox were tremendous in 1-run games. They also swept the Astros in the World Series, while only outscoring them by 6 total runs. They won three 1-0 games of note in that 2005 season - first game of year, first game after the All-Star break and last game of the World Series. This requires good managing. 3. The 2005 Sox knew how to bash home runs. But they also knew how to manufacture runs. Just think of a couple of runs that won postseason games. In the second game against the Angels in the ALCS, in the bottom of the 9th, after AJ Pierzynski reached first on a controversial dropped third strike, Ozzie pinch ran Pablo Ozuna for AJ, who stole second, and scored the walk-off win on a Joe Crede double to left field. In the WS clinching win against the Astros, Willie Harris hit a single, stole second, and scored on Jermaine Dye's single up the middle. It was the only run of the game. This also shows how Ozzie was able to use the "smurfs" - Harris, Ozuna, and Geoff Blum - in ways that helped the Sox to 3 postseason wins. In addition to Ozuna and Harris above, Geoff Blum hit the game winning HR in extra innings in game 3 of the World Series. Again, Ozzie knew what he was doing. 4. The 2005 White Sox were an excellent defensive team, so Ozzie knows the value of defense in winning games. That offseason, the Sox traded offense for defense, and it paid off. This White Sox team has been excellent defensively with Anderson making great strides at SS, and with Luis Robert in CF. 5. Ozzie is the only Sox manager alive today who has won a playoff series with the Sox. He was 11-1 in 2005, which is still the best postseason record in baseball. under that 3-round format. 6. Yes, Ozzie quit on the team at the end of his tenure and should have been fired. He was angling to manage Miami, which turned into a disaster. After 10 years, I don't hold this against Ozzie, and the Sox shouldn't either. Ozzie is back in the Sox fold as an announcer and would not mess up like this again. 7. If Renteria is replaced, the Sox need an Hispanic manager given how central the Cuban players are to the success of the team. 8. Ozzie is a loudmouth manager, who says a lot of crazy things. But there is a method to his madness. He always takes the pressure onto himself, and off of his players. He has their backs. I'm sure some will question whether Ozzie is fully up to speed on the new analytics which didn't exist when Ozzie was managing. But I think he would be based on the fact that he knew how to manage pitching, had a team that could bash HRs and play for a run, and excelled in 1-run games. Lastly, I will confess I don't live in Chicago, so I don't know much about what Ozzie has been doing lately outside of providing TV commentary. But whatever that may be, I think Ozzie would be laser focused should he get another shot at managing the Sox. It's not likely a marriage that will last 10 years. But there's no reason it can't last for the next 5, which is the Sox window to compete for World Series titles. My vote: Fire Ricky. Hire Ozzie.

  22. And this mixed messaging is only leading people to think the worst. It leaves me with the impression that no one is in charge. For better or worse, temporary presidential powers should be passed to Pence. Should Trump recover, he can assume his office again. The fact that this is not happening is very concerning.

  23. Jason Miller kept dodging Chuck Todd’s questions on “Meet the Press,” encouraged what they should have encouraged months ago with wearing masks, washing hands and avoiding crowds and declined to offer an update on the president’s condition, aside from saying he is in good spirits. The doctors from Walter Reed and the president’s staff declined to take an interview. Talk about an administration not being transparent with voters especially with the mixed messaging.

  24. I think this is right - but the added benefit is the outfield free agents next offseason are excellent. I am more in tune with some calls last year for some modest players. More than impact, balance. RF needs to be good v RHP, but also would help to be higher OBP or at least sub 20% k rate. A team worth watching is ATL, they made a surplus of OF this year and have two prospects worth moving in or trading. There will be odd men out. We also may see a better than typical number of players not see their options picked up.

  26. Yes, you are absolutely right. This isn't political. We have a right to know what's happening, and responsible people in the government ought to read the constitution and take a hard look at the 25th amendment. The problem is that the polarized atmosphere in Washington isn't helping matters any. Leaders in both parties should be meeting to see how to handle this crisis. We haven't had a candidate in this type of condition so close to a presidential election. So, how is it going to be handled? Staying in denial about things, like they have about the pandemic, won't help. Right now, I don't think Trump is physically able to handle his job. I don't listen to the glowing reports.

  28. Yelich is the interesting one. Awful season and due @$25M/yr. for a while. Brewers might want to offload that burden enough to consider packaging him with one of their stud pitchers so we can maybe solve for a couple areas of need in one transaction .

  41. Crochet is no where near ready for the innings load and stress of a big league starter. Kopech as well. If you got 200 innings between both of them that wouldn’t be a bad year. You need at least another arm in there, maybe two, just to have enough for innings.

  42. WTF? So if I don't go near anyone it means I don't give a shit about anyone else? If I wash my hands and use hand sanitizer before entering the grocery store I don't give a shit about anyone? If I wear a mask when I'm near anyone I don't give a shit? Being a responsible person you don't want to spread the virus. People acting irresponsible like getting on a crowded dance floor are the problem. I just posted pictures of adults socially distancing, using masks when getting anywhere near each other. Your telling me those people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves? Why not look up the definition of responsible and irresponsible.
