I am as big of Rodon fan as there is on this board, but unless he will sign for next to nothing, it’s time to move on. I’ve tried looking the other way too long. It is crazy to think he suddenly is going to be healthy and throwing strikes for a full outing, let alone a season.2 points

I agree with Two-Gun Pete on so-called Fox News. That network does not report news in any way. However, as a liberal, I sometimes find my stomach turning when I watch MS-NBC. That network's bias shows too, and it did what it could to sabotage the Bernie Sanders candidacy. Regardless, I find myself trying to sift through the bias and figure out what is honest reporting. I think that one truly important thing regarding the virus is information. We, as a country, desperately need it. We need to know how to protect ourselves and just how hopeful the future is when it comes to treatments and vaccines. We don't need scams that mislead us and even con us out of our money. Or worse yet, people killing themselves because they are fooled by wild claims. Right now journalists don't only need to be journalists. They need to be patriots. Our future depends on it.2 points

Greg, as others have said, you've reported your voting history otherwise in other places. But that isn't really pertinent here. If you squander your finite time on earth watching a propaganda network that has gotten people killed, Trump is your hero. You have already re-broadcast that man's racism here, and GOD KNOWS what you've said to others in your off-ST life. At the same time, your on air hero, Tucker Carlson is also a rich, spoiled man who, like trump, inherited millions from the Swanson family fortune. Regardless, fux "news" IS. NOT. NEWS. They put on more opinion and commentary on their airwaves than they put on actual "news." And, when they do make an attempt to put on news, they also temper it with yet more "commentary," which is really only propaganda for one man. Long story short, you are becoming dumber and wasting your life the more you watch that propaganda network. Turn off the TV, and pick up a book. Get some exercise, and look for the good in others, rather than watching a network and a president that magnifies the difference between "us" and "them," whether its those "rapist mexicans," or "the chinese," or WHOMEVER you're supposed to hate. It takes 21 days to form a new habit. Turn off fux "news" for 21 days, and you will become a better man.2 points

Still a useful player, but much like Michael Brantley, I'm afraid he can't play RF regularly. Unless of course you want him to DH until Vaughn is ready with the occasional corner outfield start, in which case I could see a fit2 points

Nope . Why give him a $1M when a minor league deal is for a lot less ? What has he done to deserve $1M ?1 point

A lot of the sociological aspects of the city are in the Cubs favor. More upper-middle class transplants have taken over the city's population (seems like everyone is from Michigan now) and they all want the perceived "Chicago experience" of Wrigley Field. In the 50s the Sox owned the town. In the 80s it was more 50/50. Things change over time.1 point

If this were a normal offseason, I have zero doubt we would be spending big. But this year? It is all a guessing game.1 point

Don't "both sides" this one. You may not "like" MSNBC, given your politics. But they do not try to pose as "news," and then spend 18 out of 24 hours broadcasting lies/propaganda. At a minimum, MSNBC does make an attempt to be news first, and then opinion second, whether you like their opinions or not. To the bolded, I wholeheartedly agree. We need information, and the truth. For us to beat back COVID, and for us to get the economy going [so greg can get his haircuts, and we can all go to the ballpark], we need this, so that we can choose appropriately as a society. We don't need shitgibbons on a sh!tty network to incite stupidity and sedition, all in the name of giving this president the jollies. The problem nowadays is that most people get the same types of stories re-fed to them over and over again on social media, like pigs getting refed the leftovers from Las Vegas buffets. Then, they take their political leaning to their cable news choices, and try to find reverification on fux or OAN or whatever network, rather than being open to other and opposite viewpoints. [Hell, I catch that same tendency in myself whenever I watch too much TV.]1 point

I said this last offseason, and I'll say this now: Yasiel Puig. He's had a wrc+ of 130 vs. RHP over the course of his career. [Yes, go ahead and check his career splits.] He's had a positive DRS in most seasons, which suggests that he's an adequate fielder. His acquisition cost won't include squandering the dwindling supply of tradeable assets, or surrendering compensatory picks. His salary demands aren't going to prevent adding other pieces in this offseason, at 2021's trade deadline, at next season's offseason, or 2022's trade deadline. He's only going to be 30, which means he should have enough tread on the tire to allow Colas or Cespedes or Adolfo or other youngsters to arrive here. He has been supported by both Abreu and Grandal; at 30 years old, he's likely to be more mature than he was as a younger man. He has been active in his community through his charitable foundation, moreso than most players. He's played in this division, and should now have some familiarity with the ballparks in it. He has players in this roster with whom he has familiarity, and the manager, if he has a strength, is to keep a clubhouse together. He likely has been humbled by being left out this season, and is highly likely to be hungry to prove himself; a contract with the proper incentives/disincentives can easily keep him in line, for those of you who are pearl-clutching pants-wetters. I don't think he'll ever be the 5.5 fWAR stud we thought he was a few years ago. But, I think his fWAR floor is likely ~1.5 fWAR, with a ceiling of perhaps ~3fWAR. BUT, he should come at a price point that will be less than Mazara in arb, AND at a point that won't kill the budget. As part of an overall strategy to compete in 2021 through 2024, while not squandering dwindling resources of trade assets or salary structure space, go sign him for a reasonable contract. I'm interested in having multiple opportunities to win, which means trying to add talent that may provide surplus value [i.e. a player who might outperform his contract]. I'm not interested in this club blowing their entire prospect wad, or their entire salary structure in ONE OFFSEASON, which could prevent future additions over the course of this competitive window. IOW, I don't care about "winning the offseason" by adding your wet dream in trade or FA this offseason. YMMV.1 point

This is true. Yet, fux "news" is allowed to continue their name as "news," even though the majority of their programming is not NEWS, but rather, are opinion pieces and commentary. IOW, their name in of itself is false advertising. In turn, low information types assume that ANYTHING that is said on their airwaves is "news," and therefore, true. Don't get me wrong, its profitable programming. But this is a network that actively makes you stupider the more you watch it. And, the more people watch it, the more polarized we as a society become. To a lesser degree, this is true for other networks, but they actually broadcast more actual news than fux does. As it pertains to COVID, they've magnified and broadcast opinions of this president about the disease that simply haven't been true. They've served as misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda to aggrandize this president. In doing so, they've helped to get people killed, and to stop up our economy.1 point

No I was gonna write in Ozzie but thought better of it. If I said I wrote in Ventura I lied but I do love Ventura. I'm no dummy. If I did lie, sorry, Buffalo, it's not a good thing to do. I realize Trump is a rich spoiled man who is selfish IMO and not the best person. But Hillary had angered me beyond belief. I did vote for Sox fan/great man Obama twice. To be honest with you, I'd probably vote for Michelle O if she ran this time. You won't see me voting for either of these candidates this year. Sad that some people like me won't be at the polls.1 point
-
I don't know why he's my hero. I voted for Obama over Romney and McCain and I sat out the Trump-Hillary election cause I didn't see any reason to vote for a write-in candidate. For somebody who is pretty conservative, I don't run to the ballot box and hit the R button on all candidates.1 point

This. The ONLY thing the Sox might do here is target a defense first back up catcher. They are not about to put huge resources into this position when they already have a top level catcher behind the plate. It is gigantic waste of resources when upgrades in the rotation and RF would pay off SO much bigger.1 point

I find it weird that Realmuto’s agent is visiting a White Sox message board.1 point
-
I don’t think this is true. Every time he mentions that the Sox are or aren’t in on somebody it comes to pass.1 point
-
Whatever the WAR says, Realmuto is a much better defensive catcher. And it makes sense because in Realmuto you are talking about getting a guy who will be the next guy worth talking about after Fisk and then AJ. He'd be locked up for many years and nobody would be talking about moving him off of the position by midseason 2021 and especially by the 2021-22 offseason. But mark my words those conversations will be coming re: Grandal even if I don't say a word about it personally. Yas is a good hitter though and lefty bat is nice. But we already have enough DHs here. The fit really isn't great or necessary. As a short-term fix, fine, but anytime there is a player the quality of Realmuto on the market I think you have to take a shot. It's such an extreme rarity.1 point
-
Fact is both are elite while Sox have negative war players at 5th starter and right field next year. Which upgrade makes more sense? Upgrading a RF or 5th starter projected for minus 0.5 war or a catcher who is projected for 2.5 to 3 war?1 point
-
If anyone seriously believes that JT Realmuto is only a marginal upgrade over Yasmani Grandal, all I can say is ?1 point
-
I just don’t think it’s an idea would exploring as there is literally zero chance the Sox go through the gymnastics of moving Grandal just to sign Realmuto. The Sox may add a better backup than Collins, but the starting catching position is not a problem for us and will not be a priority for us this offseason. A TOR starter, a high leverage reliever, a veteran swingman, and a RF upgrade are where Hahn will spend his time and effort.1 point
-
lol, wut? Are you really trying to pretend that COVID hasn't changed the monetary situation around baseball?1 point
-
Realmuto is a bit better than grandal but grandal is a top4 catcher too. Why would you try to marginally upgrade catcher when you have black holes in RF, 4th starter and 5th starter? (depending on how kopech comes back next year). The Sox need a RF, a starter and a top reliever (either colome or a replacement), marginal upgrades of good positions would be inefficient1 point
-
Every single team in baseball could have paid Grandal $18 million a season (or more) last season, and 29 teams chose not to. Now in 2020, teams have lost billions of dollars in revenues, and NOW they would be willing to do so? That doesn't even make sense.1 point
-
There is a zero % chance we trade Grandal so not sure why people keep pushing that narrative.1 point

Here is a reality. The two divisions we played this year went 2 and 12 in the playoffs. We went 13 and 22 against. 500. We may be a little further away than we hoped. We have to attack our needs and ramp up the roster once more.1 point
