Why is it silly? A bunch of players conducted one of the most elaborate cheating schemes in baseball history and weren’t punished at all despite being caught. What the fuck is wrong with people holding them accountable? I think it’s silly you think we should all pretend it didn’t happen or this is some kind of “moral preening”.8 points

Willfull ignorance is not an excuse for bigoted views. Saying its disrespectful to the veterans while not listening to the actual meaning of it - understanding it has nothing to do with the military - is the problem. Also, when did the military take over the national anthem again? Did I miss that? TlR was telling a black man how he should and shouldn't protest systemic injustice. He may not have been trying to be racist, but it's actions and people like Tony whose willful ignorance has exasperated and carried on these racist systems for eternity. I'm done making excuses for idiots like that.7 points

As a man of color, I fully support athletes kneeling during the anthem and all forms of peaceful nonviolent protests. This being said, the argument of using veterans opinions to show that kneeling isn't disrespectful is weak imo for two main reasons. 1. You can also find just as many vets that say it is disrespectful to kneel during the athem. 2. Human rights should not be a pick and choose event. It should be acceptable for someone of color, lgbtq, women, etc to protest as they see fit, even during the anthem. This doesn't make them bad people, even if you do not agree it is the right way to protest. On the flip side, it is also the right of someone to be against kneeling without being called a racist. We are taught our whole lives that you show respect during the national anthem. You rise, take your hat off, and pay attention. Therefore, people against kneeling have the right to believe it is disrespecting the country, just like kneelers have the right to kneel against discrimination and oppression. Some people against kneeling are racist, but others may in fact just believe in what they were taught. I didn't find anything racist about what TLR said, although I disagree with his viewpoint. His comments about Black players and the anthem imo are not racist. I think they are misinformed, but not racist.6 points

Ricky for sure. No interest in TLR. In fact I think it would be a detriment for him to go into a clubhouse and tell a guy like Tim Anderson he can't kneel for the national anthem.4 points

We’re not going to hear anything until after the World Series this year. The candidate list includes at least one person coaching in the World Series.3 points

I think we share a lot of agreement on this. I think ultimately whether you agree with players kneeling during the anthem comes down on your perspective, not on whether one side is informed and the other misinformed. There is evidence to support both sides. what bothers me is when posters, plenty in this thread, take a statement like tonys and blow it up into claiming its a sign hes a racist. Its intellectually dishonest at best, and at worst really speaks to the character of the poster having an incredibly negative outlook of other people. i dont agree with those that are kneeling. I acknowledge that many have experienced anecdotal and personal experiences of racism. But i dont agree with the manner of protest, and further, i dont agree that their experiences trump impersonal data and statistics that there is a systemic issue of racism in this country. But that doesnt mean i think theyre bad people. Its a disagreement. People should be able to discuss these types of disagreements without one side demonizing the other.3 points

I think the angle that if Hinch speaks out, he never works in MLB again is pretty underappreciated here. The way he went at it, he is probably getting rehired this winter.3 points

No. And if you looked into the history of his decision to eventually kneel, you would understand. Standing for the national anthem in the NFL is a recent thing.. it's not tied to patriotism is any way shape or form.3 points

Humans generally fall in line. This is much easier said than done. I think most would go along with it, despite being displeased by it. Has anybody here been a part of hazing, whether it be sports related or fraternity related? Did you go along with it, or did you quit the frat/team because of it?3 points

Read up on Tony LaRussas history on these topics and explain to me how incident after incident doesn't add up to anything in your eyes. It isn't once. It isn't twice. It's a history. For some that history doesn't seem like a bad thing, and actually buy into his way of thinking, and how easily it has been mobilized to set a faction of the USA against the black population of this country. It's the same playbook that has been utilized for centuries now, but people keep lapping it up. Code words, stereotypes, fear of large groups of black people, etc. Gets you pointing the finger at them instead of hearing their anger and fears. Yeah, when it comes to an issue like this, I am not going to pretend to respect people who utilize racism to further themselves politically, and those who lap it up at their boots. TLR has a history here. And it extensively put him on the other side of the black athletes. It isn't even just the anthem either. If don't want to see it, you never will. Let's face it, when MLK wrote his letter about the white moderate, the letter was meant for the 60s, but it is timeless.3 points

Heres a bit of advice, when you look for evil everywhere, thats all youll find. flat out sad that you believe his stance on the issue is based on racism, and not patriotism. Further a rejection of the BLM message or propaganda that blacks are being hunted or disproportionately victimized does not mean someone is racist. Its very clear based on your history of posts on this and other topics that you automatically assume the worst about someone when they have different opinions than you. Thats what i find sad.3 points

To clarify my stance. I do not think TLR is misinformed because he does not believe kneeling during the anthem is appropriate. I think he is misinformed about another comment he made in addition to it. As Sox fans it is nice to share our views as it adds perspective and knowledge to each of us. That is why I am glad this thread has not been locked. But as I said in my most recent post, calling someone a racist is a VERY big deal. And as a man of color, I will always give someone the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. People grow up in different situations and are taught different beliefs and I'm okay with that. A racist to me is someone that actively discriminates, puts down, and oppresses because of race. I don't think TLR fits the bill here because I think he is simply an abrasive and outspoken personality to begin with regardless of your race. I think many Sox fans also won't give his comments the benefit of the doubt because they don't want him here at all costs.2 points

Reading comprehension isnt your strong suit. From tonys perspective, he finds it unpatriotic to see people kneeling for the flag or during the anthem. This has nothing to do with the prospective of the kneeler. Tonys perspective on this is also the same perspective of the VFW and American Legion. Are these organizations racist?2 points

Ignorance also does not equate racist. He understands why people are protesting as do others against kneeling, bigots and non bigots alike. It is reasonable to think it is disrespecting the military when you watch games and see the military saluting and being honored before and after the anthem. At sporting events you always see the flag when the military is present on the field to some capacity. When a war hero dies, a flag is often times placed near the casket or wrapped around the casket. When my lifelong navy serving uncle died, flags were all over his funeral. Not once have I seen a flag at another non serving person's funeral. Ignorance needs to be corrected in this scenario, but it does not equate to racist. It is very reasonable to equate the flag to the military when it is done so quite often in this country. Telling a black man how he should and shouldn't protest racism is wrong but not racist. Telling someone that they cannot find an action someone does wrong is also wrong. Especially when the word racist is used.2 points

I think that Ricky's firing is a sign that the Sox are going to get really serious about winning it all and that the payroll will reflect that. My gut says that somewhere in the neighborhood of $140M is where we end up this season.2 points

Again, there is a difference between being ignorant and being racist. TLR, like most Caucasians in the US, are not around Black people much. Thus, many people do not understand racism or that it is even a big problem because they aren't exposed to it. . This becomes two fold when the Black people you encounter are wealthy professional athletes removed from their previous situations. While I was in college, people had no idea I grew up in Englewood after living in the Projects for a while. When people see me now, most assume I've always had a great life and transfer my success to other Black people. People cannot imagine the struggle and difficulty just making it day to day. Since they don't see it, it is assumed that everyone is on equal footing and that those who are struggling in life are doing so because they don't work hard, or because they failed in life. I don't consider this to be intentional racism, but mass ignorance that needs to be addressed as a country.1 point

I wonder if spreading the la russa rumor is a tactical move so that people are more willing to accept hinch (kinda as the lesser evil). Kinda like people don't really want hinch after the scandal but if he can avoid la russa you are kinda OK with it. Maybe Hahn already has a Deal with hinch (maybe even before RS end) but he can't say it because it would be a serious breach with mlb rules to negotiate with a suspended manager while season is still going so the la russa thing is just a smoke screen.1 point

I think he'll be good. He'll run the bullpen correctly, play the guys who are supposed to play and hit guys where they're supposed to hit. Pretty simple.1 point

Hiring TLR as the manager would be a disaster. He is way past his prime and may not be able to get through to the players. The game has changed soo much since TLR has last managed. Let’s move forward not backwards.1 point

Lindor, Bogaerts, Correa, Bichette, Torres... obviously TA had a better year than all of them. But, SS is a loaded position across all of MLB and to be a unanimous selection is pretty high praise! At 1B, Luke Voit? Surprised he didn't at least garner 1 vote.1 point

And this is absolutely true. If he throws his entire team under the bus, it is possible that no front office will trust him enough to hire. There goes his career and his means of living. How do you think it would go over if a manager spoke out about one of his players taking steroids? I really doubt anybody who hire that manager again after that. It's so easy for people here to be righteous when they aren't in the situation AJ Hinch was in. Would you really speak out against the team if it meant your career in baseball would end? Goodbye to all those years of hardwork. Goodbye to the likelihood of living lavishly and comfortable for the rest of your life. Get ready for a boring old 8-5 job. Most here would not speak out.1 point

The GM was on on this thing. That's how the complicated camera system got set up in the stadium. At this point Hinch just went along with it to keep his once in a lifetime job. He didn't shoot anyone, so I couldn't care less about his role if he truly was against it. Personally, I would have told the GM first, and if he was in on it, I go back to work and collect my millions. I would have documented all of this though and my meeting with the GM.1 point

Tony because it would mean a fresh coaching staff. Also, I think 76 year old Tony is better than any age Renteria. Both are horrible horrible options though1 point

Tony of course. I am in total favor of hiring a Hall of Famer named Tony LaRussa. It's fate he wins 2 WS titles with his Sox. Jerry wants to write a wrong, fix the karma. Tony knows what needs to be done IMO to help the younguns. Eloy needs help on D; Robert needs to adjust a bit. Hire Tony please.1 point

By the way - another no show for Anthony Miller. Forgot Trubisky miss - Miller was a bigger miss. Mitch was a qb and while they missed you take that shot all day long. Miller is a bust and essentially was a whiff of 2 2nd round picks. He had another dumb play today where he cost them a 1st down. Mooney is real deal. Bought time Bears had a wideout with speed!1 point

What do you all think? Two that immediately come to mind are as follows: 1. Matt Zaleski - Charlotte Knights pitching coach. Embraces the analytics, gets great reviews within the organization, knows all our guys. He seems like an easy and solid choice for the position 2. Ethan Katz - Giolito's highschool pitching coach. He is credited with helping turn Giolito around and into a top pitcher in the league. Giolito went from literally the worst starting pitcher, to one of the best. He has to get a look. This is my pick, personally. Any candidates you have in mind?1 point

Dealing Dallas to get another starter kinda defeats the purpose of going after one in the first place. We take one step forward and back at the same time. We also have McCann, so why trade a star catcher and seek another catcher rather than more pitching?. Not sure what the thought process is here...1 point

Thank God for this defense or the Bears are the Jets. They have to be the most boring offensive 5-1 team since teams actually started passing the ball.1 point

probably because Dunning has gotten lit up like a Christmas tree in his last few outings, and if you take that into account along with the fact that he was throwing balls right over the middle of the plate yesterday and the As were all over him, RR probably thought he had the arms available to at least make it through the whole game with a few guys. sadly Marshall, Heuer, and Foster all pissed themselves and Crochet blew out his elbow1 point
