I came across a list of the rest of the managerial candidates. Some interesting names here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_verified_oldest_people6 points

and your posts are a great reminder why one shouldn't listen to old people and their big guts.6 points

If Tony La Russa becomes the next manager of the White Sox, Rick Hahn should resign. He'd have another gig in 5 minutes.6 points

Its actually frowned upon and youre not supposed to do it. TlR would be breaking that retirement HOF code for a manager but when has Tony not made everything about himself?5 points

It’s going to be awkward when our Sunday throwback uniforms are the actual uniform from TLRs first stint as manager...5 points

I mean, this would just be a disastrous course for this team to take, giving the reins to a 76yo man who hasn't coached in over a decade. Old men are naturally incorrigible creatures. Think Hawk. Hawk literally blew off all sabremetrics and tried to boil it all down to TWTW. He was an old man and no one could tell him otherwise. He didn't give a damn that younger fans wanted to hear about advanced stats during the broadcast, he didn't want to hear them. He overvalued guys that he had close relationships with because he put trust over talent. How many times did we have to hear him defend the play of a guy who just wasn't good at baseball? We're getting Hawk when we get TLR. They're the same damn person. Old, incorrigible, reluctant to change, assholes. How does Rick Hahn work with him? Hell, how does Kenny work with him, for that matter? All three men know that JR will side with TLR. What hope do they have of convincing TLR of changes that need to be made, be it with personnel or roster construction? Will there be ANYONE on this coaching staff under 50yo that players can relate to? The days of hard-headed asshole managers who refuse to cater to players' feelings are looonnngggg gone. What FA wants to go play for an old grumpy motherfucker who will refuse to coddle them in any way whatsoever? None. No one. I'm livid this is anything more than a joke at this point. When it was first rumored he'd be interviewed, I thought that it was just a made up story. Now he's reached out to Dave Duncan? FFS. We've waited SO LONG for this rebuild to be over and to compete and JR does THIS to us? Seriously?! Just fucking shoot me in the head.5 points

I hope that happens, because Anderson demanding a trade because TLR tells him to take his kneeling act into the clubhouse is another possibility.4 points

Either would be fine with me. He’s held the organization back for my entire life.4 points

Loyalty? What loyalty? The dude was just named Executive of the Year by his peers and he's not allowed to choose the club's next manager which is part of his job description.3 points

Hahn didn't pick La Russa. That's not true at all. Hahn got his nuts cut off and he should go elsewhere ASAP.3 points

My take FWIW ... Obsessive Sox fan for 55+ years. Didn't love LaRussa first go around, although loved that 1983 team and the way the pitching staff dominated baseball the second half of the regular season. Felt he was a good X and O guy, the partnership with Duncan helped him a lot, but intuited and some insider press pals confirmed that his clubhouse schtick as the detached resident genius rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Not at all happy that THAT GUY (and I never warmed up to his act with the A's and Cardinals) -- who has been away from a dugout for a decade, and a decade where tech and personality has dramatically altered the game -- could be considered a leading candidate by anyone. Why? There are so many others! That said, I never bought and would be incredibly surprised if the the Reinsdorf owned Sox EVER considered Hinch or Cora. The point can be and already has been debated ad nauseam but why hire guys fresh off a scandal like that? In many people's eyes a truly big scandal? And to do it that soon? And by a team that already has a scandal in its history that mocks the team name (obviously I'm talking Black Sox). I think we're seeing a few things coming together here and it's not simply a TLR hire in the conventional sense. I think Hinch and Cora were never going to be considered. I think Bochy likely got some discussion, but for whatever reason (likely JR), TLR was preferred. But a common characteristic of Reinsdorf owned sports teams is getting too cute by half, thinking they're going to come up with clever ideas that will revolutionize the game and elicit wows. Specifically -- I think they LOVE whiz-kid manager Justin Jirschele, want him for the long-haul, but realize that they can't throw him into the fire with no big league experience. So, the "we're smarter than everyone else" boys decide they are going to bring TLR and all of his supposed genius out of mothballs, surgically attach JJ to Tony's hip as Assistant Manager (NOT Bench Coach because a Bench Coach has too many specific real Bench Coach duties which would prevent full time learning from the grizzled old manager), with the thought that in Year 1 it would be TLR as Mgr and JJ as Asst-Mgr, but in Year 2 (or 3) it would flip and it would be JJ as Mgr with Tony as Asst-Mgr (or Mgr-Emeritus). One consistent fan thing (here and elsewhere) is to assume that the guys in charge can't see obvious things that we as fans see. These aren't stupid people. The more plausible explanation to me is that they are the opposite -- people who think they are just a wee bit smarter than they actually are. I can totally see the plan I mentioned as their thought process -- or a somewhat similar plan. If it's TLR, there's just no way that it's a straight-forward conventional hiring of a retread manager hire. Just don't see that, but looks like we'll know in short order. And edit: I would hate a pure TLR hire ... because, "why?" But I don't hate the idea of creating an apprentice situation for JJ -- who I think has all sorts of potential and the industry seems to think so as well.'3 points

You think TA is going to be cool with his manager telling him he should just head back to the clubhouse if he dares to kneel for the anthem (as he did this season)? Or am I just someone who "hates conservatives"? Man, y'all are such fucking snowflakes.3 points

Glad to see we absolutely wasted the rebuild to turn this into some Blues Brothers putting the band back together garbage. We made it to the final Mt Everest camp to strip off our clothes and make snow angels.3 points

Eh, you guys hate on the manager and blame him for everything anyway. At least now you guys will be hating on a narcissistic prick and not a nicer guy. I can't stand larussa so ill just blame him irrationally whenever I want to blame someone on the sox. Ez pz.3 points

Ill just say this. Tony is on record this year saying that he does not agree with players kneeling for the anthem. He went as far as to say he would send them back to the clubhouse. Can you imagine this 80 year old man sending Tim Anderson and Abreu to the clubhouse? Can you imagine the embarrassment and scrutiny that would bring to this orginaztion? Someone is going to ask Tony if he changed his stance at the press conference, you just know it. If he’s not prepared with the perfect answer there is going to be so much unnecessary drama brought to this team that is barely hitting their stride. Embarrassing.3 points

Gotta love people using one situation in one game to try and make their point while ignoring the fact that the rays were in the WS because of analytics.3 points

Isn't it like, so weird how both managers in the world series last night have made poor decisions because of "analytics" while all these smart gutsy managers were at home?3 points

I just want to brace everyone now with some cold truth. If the Sox hire La Russa, please, please, please do not feel the need to announce you are leaving the fanbase. So many of you did that after Machado and you are still here. No one cares.3 points

Less than 20 years ago it was illegal to be gay in this country in many states. Several of the people who voted that it should be a crime to be gay if a state says so are still on the Supreme Court today. Have you ever had to worry about being thrown in jail for what you do in your bedroom? It is still legal in many states to deny people housing for being gay or fire them for it. Would you be ok with losing your house? The only reason I can type this is a prescription drug I’m on. I’m nonfunctional without them. I’m currently on an ACA plan. Without it I’m uninsurable. Unemployable. Bankrupt. Non functional and in terrific pain. I’ve got a new job now that will cover insurance for the next 2 years, but without prescriptions, you basically kill me. Get rid of the ACA and you literally leave me stuck in bed struggling to get out if this job ends. For some people this isn’t the difference between a 0 and 10% capital gains tax.3 points

When I told my wife the White Sox fired their manager her first thing she said was "They should hire La Russa" (we are from STL). I immediately laughed and said no that would never happen. Well... Here we are2 points

I agree here, something tells me La Russa would not go for bat flips. He’s the poster boy for old school style baseball and it makes me sick thinking of him managing this team.2 points

I absolutely do not think that would be a consideration of his. I don’t get the sense Jerry would care.2 points

Absolutely yes. Sox aren’t far away from having enough talent to where a manager wouldn’t even matter.2 points

Omg now I can breathe. Not Steve Cishek says they are going to spend. He has an amazing track record so this was all I needed to love the La Russa news.2 points

Texas is now being discussed as a toss-up, but I'm not sure I believe that. I think Trump wins FL, OH, GA, and possibly NC. Biden wins PA, WI, MI, MN, and AZ. If two of FL, OH, and PA go to Biden, I think it's over. Hell, if FL goes to Biden early on election night it could be called pretty quickly. Going to be a crazy night and most likely days after.2 points

Cons/Pros Rick hahn Cons: conservative with top talent on market, too aggressive with aging power hitters Pros: Knows how names work2 points

For sure. One area I’d be excited though is giving him 4 more years to really hammer China. I think more of the world will have to fall in line regarding China if he gets another term. This is probably the best thing for the world on a macro level. A Biden win is probably a forever pass for China.2 points

Using 5-4 Supreme Court votes, starting next Tuesday the government begins declaring packages of ballots invalid in major swing states, even tossing out results from some blue states entirely. Ballots are seized from some areas by DHS personnel at gunpoint. Trump declares himself the winner and says that the Democrats committed fraud. Democrats declare Trump to have stolen the election. Trump orders key opposition figures jailed as party takes full control. Some flee country, others in prison. Violence in streets causes Trump to order in army, army follows his orders and puts down opposition, by force in some cases. We watch over the next month as US democratic experiment collapses.2 points

My mail arrived at 8:30 last night and that was not the first time that it came that late. The sabotaging of the US Mail is a crime, and to commit this crime to drive down the vote is a bigger crime. We need major reform regarding elections. There is no excuse for this shit.2 points

Does talking cryptically in the form of questions protect somebody's source? You're making the same statement, just in an annoying and slightly inconvenient way. Maybe his source views this forum but is a dope. The question marks throw him off.2 points
