  3. Honest to god soxtalk is the dumbest fan site ever. We draft a kid fourth overall who hit .360 in college. stole 39 out of 45 bases...stuck out 20 times in his last 400 college at bats who then went, at 22 and hits .340 in Birmingham where all bats go to die...then hits .340 at 23 in his first 29 major league games...and I have to defend my excitement?? Harold's LL saw some games on television and condemns this 23 year old as a finished...worthless product? Fathom comps him to Darwin Barney? Why do so many of the Soxtalk regulars hate the White Sox?

  4. I watched the Biden speech. its funny, because for obvious reasons he isn't much of a speaker. He kind of reminds me of W in that, where he isn't going to command a room, but its authentic. He really believes what he has to say. To hear a positive and not self-praising message was incredible. It was so refreshing to hear it be us and we and our, and things we want to achieve instead of who is being targeted and torn down. It wasn't about I and me, and who our enemies are. I am ready for this change.

  8. In 1972...at 26...Rod Carew at 2B had a .379 slugging percent...had a .318 batting average...stole 12 bases...and put up a 5 WAR. I can see that for Madrigal...those of you wanting to trade him because he has no power...go look at Carew...elite bat control, good fielder, fast....never hit 15 home runs in a season but averaged a 7 WAR for 7 years.

  12. This thread is the perfect autopsy of how a political discussion could work on Soxtalk. Aside from the trolls that have appeared at times, this thread didn’t really get derailed and has helped me understand others perspectives in a more civilized manner than anywhere else. This is the kind of discussion I want to have on social media but can’t because it is all about mudslinging and gaslighting. My thought on keeping a thread like this would be one thread for politics, where it can be locked to cool off temperatures and have swift and decisive action for people who get out of hand. In terms of getting back to the discussion, I am really going to be curious how Biden can work with McConnell to get the stimulus package done and pass other pieces of legislation, like a health care public option, immigration reform, criminal justice reform or at the very minimum, an infrastructure bill. And, will moderate republicans like Romney, Murkowski and Collins vote with Democrats on any of these initiatives should they be called for a vote?

  13. 7 days. He has been manager for seven days. In November. He has no coaching staff. He has 38 men on a roster to reach out to, but nothing of substance yet to tell him. But because you and other internet posters have chosen to paint him as racist despite the fact that no player since 1979 has as much as suggested that, and have generally said the exact opposite, you believe he needs to prioritze singling out a Black player to ask for his approval. An approach that no managerial hiring in history has used. And when the media asks questions with the clear intent of stirring racial shit, and TA doesn't take the bait, you blame TLR.

  19. Finally! Biden needs to run up the score and make this a landslide. It's much harder for Republicans to argue fraud when you have to do it in 4-5 states and you lose the electoral college by 80 votes. As ridiculous as that all sounds, I'm afraid this is how politics are under Trump. Also, how Biden's presidency will turn out hinges on the 2 special elections in Georgia.

  21. You just added ~$65M in payroll cost to one of the best lineups in baseball while trading three cost control assets and a top 100 prospect without addressing any of our pitching issues. Plus Conforto is a free agent after the 2021 season and will be even more expensive. Unless we’re suddenly the Yankees, this is one of the most unrealistic offseason proposals I have seen in some time.

  22. Arenado is so overrated. He has a .793 OPS away from Coors. He makes 33mil a year average until 2027. He will be in his 30 or older the rest of his contract. Why the hell are we giving up great prospects and absorbing payroll to fill a position that we already have a star at? Hahn should be fired if he makes that trade.

  27. I think the goal for Biden and the democrats is to make sure McConnell can't block everything under the sun that Biden tries to do like he did Obama after 2010.

  29. A lot of these guys you mentioned have rubber stamped his actions, they may say they are concerned but they still said "sure that is fine whatever you say, President Trump". now I have to listen to all of these Republicans who laughed at the idea of bipartisanship (specifically Chris Christie on abc right now)tell me that it is important that both sides listen to each other. Fuck that

  32. He explained it personally in 2010. He would destroy the entire senate it if helped make Obama a 1 term president. Under the Senate Rules, the Majority Leader decides what bills are taken up, sent to committee, and brought to the floor for votes. The only way to change those rules is to have a different majority in charge, and even then it's tough. He got his reward - 25% of the total judge spots in the government were filled in the last 4 years, including 33% of the Supreme Court, because he shut down the judicial system rather than let a Democrat fill the seats. It has been extremely effective, and he's rewarded handsomely for it.

  34. I saw a report of a Nevada election official giving a small press conference. A Trump supporter stepped up to the microphone yelling and screaming that everything has been fixed. The Trumpie left and the official calmly asked, "Where was I?" There also have been accounts of PA election workers being escorted to their cars by police because of physical threats. Election workers should be applauded for the work they have done. They are obviously under extreme pressure. It starts with the people who are drinking the Trump Kool-Aid. An honest account of election results cannot happen under threat. And Trump has done extreme damage by playing into the anger and frustrations of people who have no confidence in just about anything.

  36. I know others have said similar, but this has been a great thread. I've really enjoyed the civil discussions I've had with people I don't agree with politically, both in the thread and in messages as a result of the thread. I completely understand why the buster is unlikely to return, but this thread might be an example of how it could potentially work. I've learned a lot about people's differing perspectives in a much more civilized manner than anywhere else on the internet
